    DATA-DRIVEN SERVICE INNOVATION: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT OF A RESEARCH AGENDA

    The potential created by ongoing developments in data and analytics permeates a multitude of research areas, such as the field of Service Innovation. In this paper, we conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to investigate the integration of data and analytics as an analytical unit into the field of Service Innovation – referred to as Data-Driven Service Innovation (DDSI). Overall, the SLR reveals three main research perspectives that span the research field of Data-Driven Service Innovation: Explorative DDSI, validative DDSI, and generative DDSI. This integrated theoretical framework describes the distinct operant roles of data analytics for Service Innovation, and thus contributes to the body of knowledge in the field of DDSI by providing three unified lenses, which researchers can use to describe and locate their existing and future research endeavors in this ample field. Building up on the insights from the SLR, a research agenda is proposed in order to trigger and guide further discussions and future research surrounding DDSI. Ultimately, this paper aims at contributing to the body of knowledge of Service Innovation in general and Data-Driven Service Innovation in particular by presenting a three-dimensional research space model structuring DDSI towards its advancement

    Blow-up analysis of fast-slow PDEs with loss of hyperbolicity

    We consider a fast-slow partial differential equation (PDE) with reaction-diffusion dynamics in the fast variable and the slow variable driven by a differential operator on a bounded domain. Assuming a transcritical normal form for the reaction term and viewing the slow variable as a dynamic bifurcation parameter, we analyze the passage through the fast subsystem bifurcation point. In particular, we employ a spectral Galerkin approximation and characterize the invariant manifolds for the finite-dimensional Galerkin approximation for each finite truncation using geometric desingularization via a blow-up analysis. In addition to the crucial approximation procedure, a key step is to make the domain dynamic as well during the blow-up analysis. Finally, we prove that our results extend to the infinite-dimensional problem, showing the convergence of the finite-dimensional manifolds to infinite-dimensional Banach manifolds for different parameter regimes near the bifurcation point. Within our analysis, we find that the PDEs appearing in entry and exit blow-up charts are quasi-linear free boundary value problems, while in the central/scaling chart we obtain a PDE, which is often encountered in classical reaction-diffusion problems exhibiting solutions with finite-time singularities. In summary, we establish a first full case of a geometric blow-up analysis for fast-slow PDEs with a non-hyperbolic point. Our methodological approach has the potential to deal with the loss of hyperbolicity for a wide variety of infinite-dimensional dynamical systems

    External Costs of Road, Rail and Air Transport - a Bottom-Up Approach

    This paper aims to describe the calculation of environmental and health externalities caused by air pollutants, accidents and noise from different transport modes (road, rail, air) on the route Frankfurt-Milan. The investigation is part of the QUITS project (QUITS = Quality Indicators for Transport Systems), commissioned by the European Commission DG VII. The evaluation of the external costs is based on a bottom-up approach. The calculation involves four stages: emissions, dispersion, impacts, and costs, following the impact pathway approach. An integrated model for the valuation of environmental and health costs due to air pollutants will be presented consisting of three computer programmes which are linked together. For passenger road traffic, total external costs amount to about 44 ECU/1000 pkm on the route Frankfurt -Milan, including the impact categories air pollutants (15.6), global warming (5.2), noise (3.8), and accidents (19.6 ECU/1000 pkm). Concerning a comparison of the transport modes, external costs of passenger road traffic are about 9 times as high as those of rail traffic and about twice as high as those of air traffic. For goods transport by road, the total external costs (30.6 ECU/1000 tkm) are about 11 times as high as those of rail traffic. --external costs,transport systems,environmental impacts,bottom-up approach

    Structural Stability: On the Prerequisites of Nonviolent Conflict Management

    The concept of “structural stability” has been gaining prominence in development policy circles. In the EU’s and the OECD Development Assistance Committee’s (OECD DAC) understanding, it describes the ability of societies to handle intra-societal conflict without resorting to violence. This study investigates the preconditions of structural stability and tests their mutual interconnections. Seven dimensions are analyzed: (1) long-term economic growth, (2) environmental security, (3) social equality, (4) governmental effectiveness, (5) democracy, (6) rule of law, and (7) inclusion of identity groups. The postulated mutual enhancement of the seven dimensions is plausible but cannot be proven. The most significant positive relationship appears between “democracy” and “rule of law,” respectively, on the one hand and the dependent variable “violence/ human security” on the other hand. This points to the usefulness of the political concept of structural stability to promote development policy agendas in this area at least. Applications that reach beyond these initial findings will, however, require further research.Structural stability, violence, human security, development aid, conflict management, prerequisites of nonviolence

    UU Nomor 6 Tahun 2014 beserta peraturan pelaksanaanya telah mengamanatkan pemerintah desa untuk lebih mandiri dalam mengelola pemerintahan dan berbagai sumber daya alam yang dimiliki, termasuk di dalamnya pengelolaan keuangan dan kekayaan milik desa. Pengelolaan Keuangan Desa sangat menentukan terhadap berjalannya proses pembangunan menuju desa yang mandiri dan berkeadilan. Berdasarkan masukan dari beberapa aparat desa, aplikasi yang ada saat ini sudah cukup baik tetapi perlu ada penyempurnaan terutama yang terkait dengan proses monitoring terhadap realisasi anggaran. Dari permasalahan tersebut, penulis mencoba untuk membuat penelitian terkait pengembangan Aplikasi Monitoring Keuangan Desa dengan studi kasus di Desa Batusari Kecamatan Dauwan Kabupaten Subang. Untuk mendapatkan gambaran terkait dengan kebutuhan sistem yang akan dikembangkan penulis melakukan interview dengan pihak Desa dan hasilnya direpresentasikan dalam Functional Requirement dan diagram Use Case. Hasil dari Analisa kemudian dilakukan proses perancangan yang meliputi perancangan database, antarmuka, dan perancangan class. Prototype aplikasi disiapkan menggunakan Bahasa pemograman PHP dengan Framework Code Igniter dan DBMS MySQL

    Deploying a Model for Assessing Cognitive Automation Use Cases: Insights from Action Research with a Leading European Manufacturing Company

    Cognitive automation moves beyond rule-based automation and thus imposes novel challenges on organizations when assessing the automation potential of use cases. Thus, we present an empirically grounded and conceptually operationalized model for assessing cognitive automation use cases, which consists of four assessment dimensions: data, cognition, relationship, and transparency requirements. We apply the model in a real-world organizational context in the course of an action research project at the customer service department of ManuFact AG, and present unique empirical insights as well as the impact the application of the model had on the organization. The model shall help practitioners to make more informed decisions on selecting use cases for cognitive automation and to plan respective endeavors. For research, the identified factors affecting the suitability of a use case for cognitive automation shall deepen our understanding of cognitive automation in particular, and AI as the driving force behind cognitive automation in general
