Modifications of Speech Articulatory Characteristics in the Emotive Speech

Abstract The aim of the research is the phonetic articulatory description of emotive speech achievable studying the labial movements, which are the product of the compliance with both the phonetic-phonological constraints and the lip configuration required for the visual encoding of emotions. In this research we analyse the interaction between labial configurations, peculiar to six emotions (anger, disgust, joy, fear, surprise and sadness), and the articulatory lip movements defined by phonetic-phonological rules, specific to the vowel /’a / and consonants /b / and /v/.

Il lavoro analizza l'espressione delle emozioni e altre forme di passaggio di emozioni, quali induzione, contagio ed empatia, così come sono manifestate nella scrittura dei nuovi media, e specificamente in chat, forum e e-learning. In particolare sono analizzati i meccanismi di induzione e trasmissione di emozioni di saluti, punti esclamativi, superlativi ed emoticon

Aspetti dell'interazione mediata da computer nell'e-learning: dall'analisi di chat e forum alla sintesi della Faccia Parlante

The paper reviews some aspects of the expression, communication and transmission of emotions in chat and forum, among which emoticons, greetings, and some cases of punctuation. In this way it stresses how the need of communicating emotional aspects of interaction holds also in computer mediated communication, and hence it proposes the use of Talking Faces in such environments in order to fulfil such needs. Then it presents "Lucia", an Embodied Agent endowed with a Talking Face that communicates by voice, lip movements and facial expression, and it shows how a such device can make computer mediated itneraction more friendly and engaging

Multimodal Score: an ANVIL based Annotation scheme for multimodal audio-video analysis
