Double Charge Exchange And Configuration Mixing
The energy dependence of forward pion double charge exchange reactions on
light nuclei is studied for both the Ground State transition and the
Double-Isobaric-Analog-State transitions. A common characteristic of these
double reactions is a resonance-like peak around 50 MeV pion lab energy. This
peak arises naturally in a two-step process in the conventional pion-nucleon
system with proper handling of nuclear structure and pion distortion. A
comparison among the results of different nuclear structure models demonstrates
the effects of configuration mixing. The angular distribution is used to fix

Analytical formulas for calculating the thermal diffusivity of cylindrical shell and spherical shell samples
Calculating the thermal diffusivity of solid materials is commonly carried
out using the laser flash experiment. This classical experiment considers a
small (usually thin disc-shaped) sample of the material with parallel front and
rear surfaces, applying a heat pulse to the front surface and recording the
resulting rise in temperature over time on the rear surface. Recently, Carr and
Wood [Int J Heat Mass Transf, 144 (2019) 118609] showed that the thermal
diffusivity can be expressed analytically in terms of the heat flux function
applied at the front surface and the temperature rise history at the rear
surface. In this paper, we generalise this result to radial unidirectional heat
flow, developing new analytical formulas for calculating the thermal
diffusivity for cylindrical shell and spherical shell shaped samples. Two
configurations are considered: (i) heat pulse applied on the inner surface and
temperature rise recorded on the outer surface and (ii) heat pulse applied on
the outer surface and temperature rise recorded on the inner surface. Code
implementing and verifying the thermal diffusivity formulas for both

Color in context: psychological context moderates the influence of red on approach- and avoidance-motivated behavior.
A basic premise of the recently proffered color-in-context model is that the influence of color on psychological functioning varies as a function of the psychological context in which color is perceived. Some research has examined the appetitive and aversive implications of viewing the color red in romance- and achievement-relevant contexts, respectively, but in all existing empirical work approach and avoidance behavior has been studied in separate tasks and separate experiments. Research is needed to directly test whether red influences the same behavior differently depending entirely on psychological context. The present experiment was designed to put this premise to direct test in romance- and achievement-relevant contexts within the same experimental paradigm involving walking behavior. Our results revealed that exposure to red (but not blue) indeed has differential implications for walking behavior as a function of the context in which the color is perceived. Red increased the speed with which participants walked to an ostensible interview about dating (a romance-relevant context), but decreased the speed with which they walked to an ostensible interview about intelligence (an achievement-relevant context). These results are the first direct evidence that the influence of red on psychological functioning in humans varies by psychological context. Our findings contribute to both the literature on color psychology and the broader, emerging literature on the influence of context on basic psychological processes
Simplified models of diffusion in radially-symmetric geometries
We consider diffusion-controlled release of particles from -dimensional
radially-symmetric geometries. A quantity commonly used to characterise such
diffusive processes is the proportion of particles remaining within the
geometry over time, denoted as . The stochastic approach for computing
is time-consuming and lacks analytical insight into key parameters while
the continuum approach yields complicated expressions for that obscure
the influence of key parameters and complicate the process of fitting
experimental release data. In this work, to address these issues, we develop
several simple surrogate models to approximate by matching moments with
the continuum analogue of the stochastic diffusion model. Surrogate models are
developed for homogeneous slab, circular, annular, spherical and spherical
shell geometries with a constant particle movement probability and
heterogeneous slab, circular, annular and spherical geometries, comprised of
two concentric layers with different particle movement probabilities. Each
model is easy to evaluate, agrees well with both stochastic and continuum
calculations of and provides analytical insight into the key parameters
of the diffusive transport system: dimension, diffusivity, geometry and

Charon's radius and density from the combined data sets of the 2005 July 11 occultation
The 2005 July 11 C313.2 stellar occultation by Charon was observed by three
separate research groups, including our own, at observatories throughout South
America. Here, the published timings from the three data sets have been
combined to more accurately determine the mean radius of Charon: 606.0 +/- 1.5
km. Our analysis indicates that a slight oblateness in the body (0.006 +/-
0.003) best matches the data, with a confidence level of 86%. The oblateness
has a pole position angle of 71.4 deg +/- 10.4 deg and is consistent with
Charon's pole position angle of 67 deg. Charon's mean radius corresponds to a
bulk density of 1.63 +/- 0.07 g/cm3, which is significantly less than Pluto's
(1.92 +/- 0.12 g/cm3). This density differential favors an impact formation
scenario for the system in which at least one of the impactors was
differentiated. Finally, unexplained differences between chord timings measured
at Cerro Pachon and the rest of the data set could be indicative of a

College student's academic goals and learning strategies
Tomando en cuenta que no existe concordancia en la literatura entre los resultados de diferentes estudios respecto de la relevancia de la adopción de un tipo u otro de meta para el aprendizaje académico, en el presente artÃculo se estudia la relación entre los diferentes tipos de orientaciones motivacionales
(metas de aprendizaje, metas de rendimiento y metas de evitación del trabajo) y el uso de estrategias cognitivas y de autorregulación. En el trabajo
participan 632 estudiantes universitarios de diversas titulaciones de la universidad española. Aunque el estudio es de tipo correlacional, los análisis de los
datos obtenidos, corroborando estudios anteriores, aportan información de interés para la discusión del problema que se investigó, por ejemplo que sólo
los niveles más altos de metas de aprendizaje se encuentran asociados con una mayor utilización de estrategias de aprendizaje. Son discutidas
implicaciones educativas de estos datos.Tomando em consideração que não existe concordância na literatura entre os resultados dos diferentes estudos a respeito da relevância da adopção de

São discutidas implicações educativas destes dados.Assuming that there isn’t much agreement among the results from different studies relating to the relevance of adopting one or another kind of academic
learning goal, this paper intends to study the relationship between the several types of motivational orientations (learning goals, achievement goals and
avoidance goals) and the use of cognitive and self-regulatory strategies. 632 Spanish college students from various university courses participated in this
research. Although this is a correlacional study data analysis, in line with previous studies, brings to light interesting information and highlights the
investigated issue for example only higher levels of learning goals are positively related with the use of learning strategies. Future educational implications
are also discussed
Group projector generalization of dirac-heisenberg model
The general form of the operators commuting with the ground representation
(appearing in many physical problems within single particle approximation) of
the group is found. With help of the modified group projector technique, this
result is applied to the system of identical particles with spin independent
interaction, to derive the Dirac-Heisenberg hamiltonian and its effective space
for arbitrary orbital occupation numbers and arbitrary spin. This gives
transparent insight into the physical contents of this hamiltonian, showing
that formal generalizations with spin greater than 1/2 involve nontrivial
additional physical assumptions.Comment: 10 page
Functional group tolerant hydrogen borrowing C-alkylation
Hydrogen borrowing is an attractive and sustainable strategy for carbon–carbon bond formation that enables alcohols to be used as alkylating reagents in place of alkyl halides. However, despite intensive efforts, limited functional group tolerance is observed in this methodology, which we hypothesize is due to the high temperatures and harsh basic conditions often employed. Here we demonstrate that room temperature and functional group tolerant hydrogen borrowing can be achieved with a simple iridium catalyst in the presence of substoichiometric base without an excess of reagents. Achieving high yields necessitates the application of anaerobic conditions to counteract the oxygen sensitivity of the catalytic iridium hydride intermediate, which otherwise leads to catalyst degradation. Substrates containing heteroatoms capable of complexing the catalyst exhibit limited room temperature reactivity, but the application of moderately higher temperatures enables extension to a broad range of medicinally relevant nitrogen rich heterocycles. These newly developed conditions allow alcohols possessing functional groups that were previously incompatible with hydrogen borrowing reactions to be employed
Neural Architecture Search as Program Transformation Exploration
Improving the performance of deep neural networks (DNNs) is important to both
the compiler and neural architecture search (NAS) communities. Compilers apply
program transformations in order to exploit hardware parallelism and memory
hierarchy. However, legality concerns mean they fail to exploit the natural
robustness of neural networks. In contrast, NAS techniques mutate networks by
operations such as the grouping or bottlenecking of convolutions, exploiting
the resilience of DNNs. In this work, we express such neural architecture
operations as program transformations whose legality depends on a notion of
representational capacity. This allows them to be combined with existing
transformations into a unified optimization framework. This unification allows
us to express existing NAS operations as combinations of simpler
transformations. Crucially, it allows us to generate and explore new tensor
convolutions. We prototyped the combined framework in TVM and were able to find
optimizations across different DNNs, that significantly reduce inference time -
over 3 in the majority of cases.
Furthermore, our scheme dramatically reduces NAS search time. Code is
