Ageing of Natural Rubber under Stress
We report a dynamical-mechanical study of stress relaxation at small
deformation in a natural (polyisoprene) rubber well above its glass transition
temperature Tg. We find that an almost complete relaxation of stress takes
place over very long periods of time, even though the elastic network integrity
is fully retained. The relaxation rate and the long-time equilibrium modulus
are sensitive functions of temperature which do not follow time-temperature
superposition. Many characteristic features of non-ergodic ageing response are
apparent at both short and very long times. We interpret the observed behaviour
in terms of the properties of rubber crosslinks, capable of isomerisation under
stress, and relate the results to recent models of soft glassy rheology.Comment: Latex 2e (EPJ style), 5 EPS figure
Pade-Improved Estimate of Perturbative Contributions to Inclusive Semileptonic Decays
Pade-approximant methods are used to estimate the three-loop perturbative
contributions to the inclusive semileptonic decay rate. These
improved estimates of the decay rate reduce the theoretical uncertainty in the
extraction of the CKM matrix element from the measured inclusive

Neuroendocrine Regulation of Metabolism
Given the current environment in most developed countries, it is a challenge to maintain a good balance between calories consumed and calories burned, although maintenance of metabolic balance is key to good health. Therefore, understanding how metabolic regulation is achieved and how the dysregulation of metabolism affects health is an area of intense research. Most studies focus on the hypothalamus, which is a brain area that acts as a key regulator of metabolism. Among the nuclei that comprise the hypothalamus, the arcuate nucleus is one of the major mediators in the regulation of food intake. The regulation of energy balance is also a key factor ensuring the maintenance of any species as a result of the dependence of reproduction on energy stores. Adequate levels of energy reserves are necessary for the proper functioning of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. This review discusses valuable data presented in the 2015 edition of the International Workshop of Neuroendocrinology concerning the fundamental nature of the hormonal regulation of the hypothalamus and the impact on energy balance and reproduction.Fil: Cornejo, María Paula. Renormalization-Scale Invariance, Minimal Sensitivity, and the Inclusive Hadronic Decays of a 115 GeV Higgs Particle
Known perturbative expressions for the decay rates of 115 GeV Higgs particle
into either two gluons or a pair are shown to exhibit
renormalization-scale-()-dependence that is largely removed via
renormalization-group/Pade-approximant estimates of these rates' next order
contributions. The extrema in characterizing both rates, as determined
from fully-known orders of perturbation theory, are very nearly equal to
corresponding -insensitive rates obtained via estimation of their next

Blood Pressure and Cognitive Function in an African-American and a Caucasian-American Sample: The Maine-Syracuse Study
Objective: The primary purpose of this study was to examine associations between indices of blood pressure (BP) and cognitive function for African-American participants in the Maine-Syracuse Longitudinal Study (MSLS). Corresponding data for the Caucasian-American MSLS participants were included to provide a basis for comparison. Interactions of age with BP indices were also assessed in relation to cognitive function. Methods: Data were drawn from the baseline MSLS questionnaires, medical interviews and examinations, Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale subtests, and measurements of BP for 1563 participants, of whom 147 were African American. Multiple linear regression analyses were employed to examine the relationship between several BP predictors and cognitive outcomes with statistical adjustment for demographic, psychosocial, and cardiovascular risk factors. Results: Significant inverse associations between BP indices and cognitive performance were obtained for both racial cohorts but were generally of higher magnitude for the African-American cohort. Interactions of BP with age were not obtained for any of the cognitive test scores. Conclusions: Elevations in BP are associated with poorer cognitive function for African-American and Caucasian-American cohorts. These associations are similar for younger and older participants
Giant Intrinsic Carrier Mobilities in Graphene and Its Bilayer
We have studied temperature dependences of electron transport in graphene and
its bilayer and found extremely low electron-phonon scattering rates that set
the fundamental limit on possible charge carrier mobilities at room
temperature. Our measurements have shown that mobilities significantly higher
than 200,000 cm2/Vs are achievable, if extrinsic disorder is eliminated. A
sharp (threshold-like) increase in resistivity observed above approximately
200K is unexpected but can qualitatively be understood within a model of a
rippled graphene sheet in which scattering occurs on intra-ripple flexural
phonons
Radiative Electroweak Symmetry-Breaking Revisited
In the absence of a tree-level scalar-field mass, renormalization-group
methods permit the explicit summation of leading-logarithm contributions to all
orders of the perturbative series within the effective potential for
electroweak symmetry. This improvement of the effective
potential function is seen to reduce residual dependence on the renormalization
mass scale. The all-orders summation of leading logarithm terms involving the
dominant three couplings contributing to radiative corrections is suggestive of
a potential characterized by a plausible Higgs boson mass of 216 GeV. However,
the tree potential's local minimum at is restored if QCD is
