Thrombolysis and thrombectomy for acute ischaemic stroke

    Get PDF
The likelihood of disability-free recovery after acute ischemic stroke is significantly improved by reperfusion either by intravenous thrombolytic drug treatment or with endovascular mechanical thrombectomy in selected cases. The use of intravenous thrombolysis is limited by the short treatment window and you need to assess individual balance of benefit and risk of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage. Benefit is greater for shorter onset-to-reperfusion time intervals, requiring optimisation of pre-hospital and in-hospital pathways. Symptomatic haemorrhage is more likely with more severe strokes, but a greater proportion of patients are left free of disability than suffer a treatment-related haemorrhage at all levels of severity. Extracranial haemorrhage and orolingual angioedema are less common complications. Endovascular mechanical thrombectomy can be used in selected patients with imaging-proven large artery occlusion. Successful therapy depends on well-organised services that can deliver treatment within a short time window at centres with adequate expertise to perform the procedure

This is an audio documentary on food outlets that introduced new cuisines and new food items to the Egyptian market, and who succeeded and developed into big chains. The documentary is presenting the examples of Mori Sushi, T.B.S. (The Bakery Shop), and Nino\u27s (Cupcakes and Pastry). The duration is 9:17. The interviwees are: Sameh El Sadat: co-founder of T.B.S. Mireille Aziz: marketing specialist at Mori Co. Suleima Ben Halim: founder of Nino\u27s. The last decade has witnessed a remarkable increase in the number of food outlets and the introduction of new cuisines, foods, and dishes in Egypt. Some established these food outlets driven by mere passion, and others were also concerned about the revenue they may achieve. As a result of people\u27s curiosity to experience what is unfamiliar and due to the exceptional interest Egyptians give to food, most of these food outlets have succeeded and many developed into big chains. Therefore, it is very interesting to know how they started, what they did when launching, and why they chose the cuisine or items they are offering

    Get PDF
This study aims at examining the framing of crises threatening the security and welfare of Egypt embodied in the ongoing terrorism and the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) that will drastically decrease the country\u27s water share. The samples are derived from social media, specifically Facebook and Twitter, as well as online publications. The nine political Facebook pages selected are among the top 100 in Egypt in terms of followers. The three publications are chosen to reflect the type of ownership which varies from state-owned to privately-owned including partisan publications. The Tweets were picked according to hashtags of incidents that occurred within the time frame extending from September 2017 till March 2018. Those tweets had to be by citizen users and not professional publications or public figures. The study looks into types of frames, and stereotypical frames, as well as, rumors promoted to be bases for determining the master and tactical frames adopted by each political group on each topic. The theoretical framework is Framing Theory, Public Sphere Theory and Two-step-flow Theory. The research method used is content analysis to study social media posts, tweets, and online publications\u27 op-eds collected through purposive sampling. For terrorism, the time frame included three major terror attacks publicly known as the Rawda Mosque Attack in North Sinai, the Wahat Incident, and Helwan Church. As for the Ethiopian dam, the time frame consisted of failure in technical negotiations throughout different rounds, and a great progress in the dam\u27s construction. The research at hand draws a clear image of the dominant frames adopted by different political groups, and to what extent stereotypical frames and rumors were deployed to communicate different messages serving the master and tactical frames such groups adopt

Experimental study on the bond behaviour of the concrete-CFRP interface

    Get PDF
FRP materials have been widely used to either strengthen or rehabilitate many concrete structures in numerous applications. Since epoxy is usually used for bonding, the tensile stresses are being transferred from the FRP to concrete by means of the bonding interface. Effort is still being made to fully understand the conditions at the concrete-FRP interface in order to improve the design of concrete structures externally strengthened with FRP. Various studies have been pursued to define and correlate the parameters that can influence the bond behaviour. Another significant issue is that high shear stress concentrations are generated at the end of the externally bonded reinforcement where the forces have to be transferred between FRP and concrete. Therefore, it is of great importance to determine the effective bond length of FRP materials. Researchers have come up with a many estimations for the effective bond length needed to achieve the bond strength capacity. A reliable value must be achieved in order to have a safe design. The present research was to study the effect of the parameters that are believed to influence the behaviour of the concrete-CFRP interface the most. The effective length required to achieve the bond strength capacity was also determined. The behaviour of thirty two specimens and two control specimens has been reported in details. This study concludes that the maximum load carrying capacity and bond strength increases when cross wraps are located on both halves of the specimen, the specimen has rough surface, or the bond length increases. However, the maximum load carrying capacity increases but bond strength decreases when the bond width increases or CFRP stiffness increases. Finally, the effective length obtained was less than 100 mm in most cases

[EN] This paper deals with the construction of approximate series solutions of random nonlinear diffusion equations where nonlinearity is considered by means of a frank small parameter and uncertainty is introduced through white noise in the forcing term. For the simpler but important case in which the diffusion coefficient is time independent, we provide a Gaussian approximation of the solution stochastic process by taking advantage of the Wiener¿Hermite expansion together with the perturbation method. In addition, approximations of the main statistical functions associated with a solution, such as the mean and variance, are computed. Numerical values of these functions are compared with respect to those obtained by applying the Runge¿Kutta second-order stochastic scheme as an illustrative example. This work was partially supported by the Spanish M.C.Y.T. and FEDER grants MTM2009-08587, TRA2007-68006-C02-02, DPI2010-20891-C02-01 as well as the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia grant PAID-06-09 (ref. 2588).Cortés López, JC.; Romero Bauset, JV.; Roselló Ferragud, MD.; Santamaría Navarro, C. Portland Cement Pervious Concrete (PCPC) is an innovative type of concrete that contains little or no fine aggregates thus creating a substantial void content which allows concrete to be water permeable. PCPC thus can be used for drainage, recharging groundwater, reducing storm water and possibly filtering some pollutants. Proper employment of PCPC has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Best Management Practice. Yet, this type of concrete has not been yet considered in the Egyptian market. This study aims primarily at producing PCPC using local materials and achieving better understanding of mechanical properties, durability and potential applications. To meet that objective, concrete mixtures were prepared using 250, 350 and 450 kg of cement with different aggregates gradations, plasticizing admixtures, and silica fume. Fresh concrete tests as well as compressive and flexural strength tests were conducted. Water flow, chloride permeability, chemical durability, resistance to elevated temperature, and the potential of water purification and reduction of bacteria were examined. The results of this study investigation reveal that the PCPC can be produced using local materials and allow sizable flow of water throughout. PCPC has undergone a reduction of strength up to 48% when compared with conventional concrete. However, the reduction in strength still allows concrete to be produced at the lower bound of permits many of these mixtures to be used in structural concrete. Moreover, PCPC seems to possess a potential for water purification particularly for oil/grease contaminants. PCPC have witnessed an average reduction of 98.6% of TSS, 92.2% of bacteria, and 14.6% of lead when 98% of used vehicle oil was removed from the simulated water sample. Further research works as well as pilot trials need to be conducted to explore the full potential of PCPC in concrete applications requiring permeability of fluids and some purification of pollutants. This work aimed to study the effect of direct injection of shark (Squalus acanthias L.) DNA into skeletal muscles of red tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) fed at different additive levels (two probiotic levels; 0.3 and 0.5%, two amino yeast levels; 0.5 and 1.0% and a mixed of 0.3% probiotic and 0.5% amino yeast), on the productive performance. The results show that red tilapia injected with DNA had significant (P≤0.05) superiority of growth performance and feed utilization; besides the body composition was improved. In addition, the different levels of probiotic and amino yeast were more effective in stimulating most of the productive performance traits compared to the control group and the mixed of probiotic and amino yeast. The result indicates a possible easy and rapid way for improving red tilapia characteristics.Key words: red tilapia, shark DNA, direct injection, productive performance, probiotic, amino yeast
