    Get PDF
This paper presents a forecasting model depends on the reliability of product and the failure of its parts to forecast the required quantity of spare parts. Fuzzy logic is integrated with the forecasted model to treat the uncertainty that may be exist around defining the parameters values. Fuzzification of the product reliability is constructed using alpha cut and triangular fuzzy number. The effect of fuzzy process on the forecasted required demand of spare parts will be studied in three cases: 1) fuzzification of the mean of the product reliability, 2) fuzzification of the standard deviation of the product reliability, and 3) fuzzification of both the mean and standard deviation of the product reliability. Four suggested defuzzification methods (mean-max, centroid, signed distance, and graded mean integration representation) were used to figure out the difference between the crisp and the fuzzy forecasted demand with its related costs and to save the stock with the suitable production ranges. From the results, the maximum deviation between the crisp and the fuzzy forecasted demand was resulted from the fuzzification of both the mean and the standard deviation with percentage range from 2.06 up to 5.45 that would save the non-stock out than crisp forecasting

The present study describes the synthesis of 4,5-dihydro-6-(4-methoxy-3-methylphenyl)-3(2H)-pyridazinone derivatives. The synthesis of the first target compound, 4,5-dihydro-6-(4-methoxy-3-methylphenyl)-3(2H)-pyridazinone(1), was achieved by Friedel-Crafts acylation of o-cresylmethyl ether with succinic anhydride and subsequent cyclization of the intermediary g-keto acid with hydrazine hydrate. Condensation compound 1 with aromatical dehydes in the presence of sodium ethoxide affords the corresponding 4-substituted benzyl pyridazinones(3a-d). The pyridazinone 1 under went dehydrogenation upon treatment with bromine/acetic acid mixture to give (4). Pyridazine (5) has been synthesized upon the reaction of pyridazinone  (1) with 1,3-diphenyl-2-propen-1-one under the Michael addition reaction.  N-dialkylaminomethyl derivatives 6a-b have been obtained from the reaction of pyridazinone 1 with formaldehyde and secondary amine, whereas reaction of 1 with formaldehyde gives N-hydroxymethyl derivative (7). This study also includes the synthesis of the 3-chloro pyridazinone derivative 8 in excellent yield by heating pyridazinone 3b in phosphorus oxychloride. The behaviour of the chloro derivative toward sodium azide, benzyl amine and anthranilic acid was also studied. The proposed structures of the products were confirmed by elemental analysis, spectral data and chemical evidence

Supporting Organisational Justice through a Legal Framework for Performance Appraisal in the United Arab Emirates: Management Case and Comparison with the French System

© 2020 ADAPT University Press. All rights reserved. The article outlines the regime for performance appraisal, as it applies to organisations operating in an emerging economy like the United Arab of Emirates (UAE). To this end, the management literature on performance appraisal is reviewed, as a strategy to pursue organisational justice and productivity in an equitable work environment. An analysis is also supplied of the regulatory framework of a civil law system with which many Arab jurisdictions bear historical vicinity-that of France-to ascertain a possible frontier of further legislative development. The paper situates performance appraisal-and the need for regulation-in the context of managerial strategies to enhance organisational justice, in order to align the goals of companies and their employees. The existing regime for performance appraisal in the UAE reveals a less than comprehensive legislative infrastructure, compared to that of France. For this reason, the paper advances suggestions for its further development

3-[1-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)ethylideneamino]-2-thiohydantoin (2) was prepared via cyclization of 2-hydroxyacetophenone thiosemicarbazone (1) with ethyl chloroacetate in the presence of fused sodium acetate. The chemical behaviour of 2 towards acetic anhydride, arenediazonium chloride, aromatic aldehydes and hydrazine hydrate is described. The electron impact ionization mass spectra of compounds 2 and 3 show a strong molecular ion peak and a base peak of m/z 232 resulting from cleavage fragmentation. The molecular ion of compounds 4a,4b, and 8 is a base peak of m/z 353, 387 and 288, respectively. In contrast, compounds 5a and 5b show a base peak at m/z 336 and 370 resulting from fragmentation. Compounds 6a,b and 7a,b give a characteristic fragmentation pattern with a very stable fragment of m/z 326 and 350, respectively. Some of the synthesized compounds also exhibited antimicrobial activities

The present work is devoted to study the interaction of-aroylacrylic acid derivative (1) with some containing active methylene compounds under Michael reaction conditions and afforded the Michael adducts (2a-e). When compound 1 was allowed to react with cyclohexanone in the presence of ammonium acetate as catalyst, it afforded hydroquinoline derivative (3). Interaction of the acid 1 with highly and moderately reactive hydrocarbons e.g. p-xylene and acetanilide in the presence of anhydrous aluminumchloride under Friedel-Crafts reaction conditions afforded (4a-b). On the other hand, when the acid 1 was allowed to react with benzyl amine in dry benzene yielded 2-benzylamino-4-(4-acetaminophenyl)-4-oxobutanoic acid (5). This later compound was used to synthesize some heterocyclic compounds (7-11). Also, aza Michael adduct (6) used asthe key starting material for the synthesis of some interesting heterocyclic compounds e.g. pyridazinone, oxazinoneand furanone derivatives (13-16)

5-(4-Methoxy-3-methylphenyl)-2(3H)-furanone was prepared and reacted with some nucleophilic and electrophilic reagents. The condensation of furanone with aromatic aldehydes or phthalic anhydride yielded the corresponding 3-arylidenefuranone derivatives and phthalide, respectively. While the treatment of furanone with amines in refluxing ethanol led to the formation of amides. The reaction of the amides with thionyl chloride afforded the corresponding isothiazolones. The benzimidazole derivative was prepared via the reaction of the 2(3H)-furanone with o-phenylenediamine in boiling ethanol. However, hydrazine hydrate affected ring opening of furanone to give the corresponding acid hydrazide, which underwent in situ cyclization into the corresponding pyridazinone. The base catalyzed ethanolysis of furanone afforded the corresponding ethyl ester

Exports and Economic Growth: The Arab Experience

    Get PDF
This paper aims at analysing the relationship between exports and economic growth in the Arab countries using annual data for the period 1970-1999. Section two of this study presents a theoretical background of the relationship between exports and economic growth. Literature review is found in Section 3. In Section 4, the methodological issues of studying this relationship are discussed. Results of stationarity tests using Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) as well as Bivariate Johansen-Juseluis tests for cointegration are presented in Section 5. Stationarity tests suggest that time series are non-stationary in their levels and seem to be stationary in their first differences. Testing for long-run cointegration relationship using Johansen-Juseluis approach, it is found that in general there is no cointegration relationship between exports and GDP. For this reason, we abandoned the error correction model and tested for causality using different versions of Granger’s causality test. We found mixed results about the causal relationship between exports and GDP in Arab countries
