A microfluidic device with fluorimetric detection for intracellular components analysis
An integrated microfluidic system that coupled lysis of two cell lines: L929 fibroblasts and A549 epithelial cells, with fluorescence-based enzyme assay was developed to determine β-glucocerebrosidase activity. The microdevice fabricated in poly(dimethylsiloxane) consists of three main parts: a chemical cell lysis zone based on the sheath flow geometry, a micromeander and an optical fibers detection zone. Unlike many methods described in literature that are designed to analyse intracellular components, the presented system enables to perform enzyme assays just after cell lysis process. It reduces the effect of proteases released in lysis process on determined enzymes. Glucocerebrosidase activity, the diagnostic marker for Gaucher’s disease, is the most commonly measured in leukocytes and fibroblasts using 4-methylumbelliferyl-β-D-glucopyranoside as synthetic β-glucoside. The enzyme cleavage releases the fluorescent product, i.e. 4-methylumbelliferone, and its fluorescence is measured as a function of time. The method of enzyme activity determination described in this paper was adapted for flow measurements in the microdevice. The curve of the enzymatic reaction advancement was prepared for three reaction times obtained from application of different flow rates of solutions introduced to the microsystem. Afterwards, determined β-glucocerebrosidase activity was recalculated with regard to 105 cells present in samples used for the tests. The obtained results were compared with a cuvette-based measurements. The lysosomal β-glucosidase activities determined in the microsystem were in good correlation with the values determined during macro-scale measurements
Use of Social Media in Employees Management in Business Organisations
Badania przyprowadzono z pracownikami działów HR (ankieta kwestionariuszowa). Przedstawiły one stan faktyczny wykorzystania mediów społecznościowych do zarządzania pracownikami (w jakich procesach kadrowych, w jakim stopniu są wykorzystywane). The growing number of users of social media induced many enterprises to look for the possibilities to use them for business purposes. Employers begin to perceive the media as an important tool for contacts with customers but also to build the firm’s image as employers, to run the processes of recruitment, to build the community of employees, to increase their commitment, etc. An aim of considerations is to present finding of the surveys carried out by the author in 210 production-and-service firms in the Łódź and Mazowsze regions at the end of 2014 and the start of 2015 (medium-sized firms, with Polish and foreign capital, operating ‘independently’ or in a capital group, representing various branches). The surveys were carried out with employees of the HR departments (the questionnaire-based poll). They showed the actual state of the use of social media for employees management (in what staff-related processes, in what degree they are used)
Managing internal social networks in organization.
Interakcje społeczne i wynikające z nich sieci stanowią treść życia każdej zbiorowości.
W artykule przedstawiono możliwości zastosowań SNA dla działania w obszarze HR.Social interactions - and social networks resulting from them - constitute the lifework of every community. The social network is a kind of structure of social contacts and connections within the organization. Recognition of these contacts and connections is a first step in rationalization of social interactions. One of tools letting to estimate the structure of the network that is to diagnose its strong and weak elements- is the Analysis of Social Networks (SNA). Using SNA it is possible to model and explain the influence on the community of the
organization on its subjects (employees, teams, organizational units etc.). Knowledge on this influence lets managers and HR specialists to model inner relations of people in order to increase effectiveness of the organization. Article describes potentiality of SNA applications for HR
Managing Knowledge of Workers Aged 65+ in the Organisation
The knowledge-based economy poses before organisations challenges related to an effective management of workers’ knowledge. Organisations cannot efficiently function if they do not use resources of knowledge of all their employees, also elderly workers, aged 65+. An aim of considerations is to show what roles may be played by elderly employees in the processes of acquisition, development, transfer, and accumulation of knowledge. There are also presented results of surveys on the state and level of knowledge management at the selected manufacturing enterprises
Social Capital in Energy Enterprises: Poland’s Case
Social capital is currently perceived as one of the basic factors of economic development and economic success of enterprises. However, while there is already much research on social capital in enterprises, there has been little such research in the energy industry. The aim of the publication is to fill the gap in this regard. The basic question that the authors try to answer is whether there is a higher level of capital in energy companies compared to other industries, and if so, what the reasons are for this. Apart from answering this question, the authors present their own method of measuring the level of this capital. The first part of the article presents the results of a study on the level of social capital in Polish energy companies, whereas the second part compares the levels of social capital in energy companies and industrial companies in other sectors. According to the study, energy companies generally have higher levels of social capital than companies in other industries. It has been found, however, that individual forms of capital that comprise social capital differ. The most significant differences were observed in relational capital, followed by cognitive capital at a lower value and structural capital at the lowest. The survey also revealed that there is a difference in social capital levels among the researched professional groups: management, administration, and production
Zarządzanie wiedzą personalną w organizacji

Investing to employee - challenge for managers
It exerts practitioner business, that investing to development of employee is one of better decision that management of organization can undertake. This is the expense, which brings up value and originality of staff and boosting their efficiency. Basic instruments of development training tools: staff relocations, restructuring of work, protection and promotion of health and career forming. Organizations invest to this development by using special program "talent of management". Direct managers fulfill important role in process of development of employee, more and more complicated one. In the article trends of investing to employee development process are shown, based on reports and results of research - global and Polish. The process of investing to development of employee should be taken into account by managers on each phase of modern business.

Przedsiębiorstwa produkujące sprzęt i uzbrojenie wojskowe z reguły zaliczane są do najnowocześniejszych
i najbardziej innowacyjnych firm na świecie. Dość często zastosowane w tych
przedsiębiorstwach innowacyjne rozwiązania organizacyjne i techniczne, w szczególności nowe
The companies producing the military equipment and the weapons are generally classified as
the most modern and most innovative companies in the world. Quite often used in these enterprises
innovative organizational and technical solutions, in particular new technology, are later adapted for
the production not related to the defense. The article is an attempt to assess the level of innovation
of the Polish defense industry. The first chapter discusses the level of innovation in the defense industries
in other countries, particularly the United States. In the second, there is a comparison between
the level of national innovation industry to other countries. Additionally, the main constraints to
the development of innovation were mentioned and the author identifies prerequisites that must be
achieved to improve the situation in Poland. The main conclusion – despite the major difficulties in
the last 25 years, many Polish companies have not lost the ability in product development. However,
the basic elements which should occur to ameliorate the situation in terms of innovation are: higher
specialization of industry, the continuity of orders for equipment and armament Polish Ministry of
National Defence, promotion at government level, Polish production on foreign markets supported
by financing instruments for the recipients, funding of research programs with a realistic chance
of implementation to production, purchase and export by the Ministry of Defence. The article was
written based on interviews conducted in the years 2013–2015 with Chief Executive Officers of
defense industry companies in Poland and the experts in this subject as well as other published and
unpublished materials
Zarządzanie innowacjami personalnymi w organizacji
The personnel functions describe the entirety of matters and
activities connected with the functioning of people in the organization. It
includes the processes and activities with executive, consulting and
regulating character. In the literature and in practice in order to
characterize personnel activities (the way of realizing this function)
different terminology is used: the management ( administrating, leading)
staff, the human resources management (the potention of labor, the social
potentia!), the management of human capital (for more details see: Król
2002, p. 1-3).
The shape of the personnel function in the organization is the result of
interna! factors such as: strategy, structure, the culture of organization,
and extemal factors connected with the environment itself in which the
organization operates.
The modem concept of management in the field of personnel
function is the human resources management. (HRM), in which human
resources management is treated as an element of assets and the source of
competitiveness. The human resources management is in fact a special
philosophy based on the conviction that in order to defeat the rivals, the
organization must first of all invest in people. One postulates the strategie
integration of personnel matters with business matters, the active role of
line management in solving personal matters and treating the engagement
of staff members as a tool to achieve goals (Pocztowski, 2003, p. 37).
The changes in the environment and in the organization itself gave
a qualitatively new meaning to the personnel function, a lot of previous
rules and the procedures of realization lost its sense and need to be
altered. The traditional personal tasks are being changed towards being
human resources based on values connected with the development of
intellectual capital.
The system of HRM is evaluating towards the model of creation the
networks of values for the major players in the organization.
The pace and the scale of adjustment of personnel function to the new
reality will be increasing. In order to cope with new challenges people
dealing with HRM must radically redefine their organizational role and
aim at being leaders in the creation of values.
The activities of staff specialists must be forwarded toward the creation of
values stimulating the inflow of personnel innovation and quick flow
inside the organization. The competence in meaning of HRM decides
about the competence in getting and using modem technologies in the
process of using the staff knowledge in the creation of organization
values.
Introducing the innovative techniques and methods to attract, recruit, train
and keep the best staff can have influence on the market success of the
organization (Reed 2002, p. 14).
At the same time the personnel function is a special field of introduction
of innovations that raise resistance and lack of confidence more than in
different fields of the organization activities. This process is characterized
by a lot of weaknesses and barriers which acknowledgement is as
a reserve of progress. The aim of this book is to show the ways of steering the process of
implementing personnel innovations at the different levels of the
management of the organization.Zmienność w otoczeniu i w samej organizacji nadały jakościowo
nowe znaczenie funkcji personalnej. Szereg dotychczasowych idei, zasad
i procedur realizacji tej funkcji utraciło rację bytu i musi ulec przeobrażeniom.
Zmiany w obrębie funkcji personalnej przynoszą organizacjom
realne korzyści; zwiększają zyski i konkurencyjność firm.
Nieuchronność zmian w obszarze funkcji personalnej powoduje
konieczność wdrażania do polskich przedsiębiorstw nowatorskich rozwiązań
z tej dziedziny. Jednocześnie funkcja ta jest szczególnym
obszarem wprowadzania innowacji, które budzą opór i nieufność
w większym stopniu niż w przypadku innych obszarów działania firmy.
Aktualnie proces ten cechuje wiele słabości i barierę ich poznania można
traktować jako rezerwę postępu.
W pracy przedstawiono autorski model wdrażania innowacji personalnych
w organizacji.
operacyjne i strategiczne.
N a każdym z wymienionych poziomów toczą się względnie odrębne procesy,
mające specyficzne fazy i charakterystyki. Każdy z tych poziomów
dotyczy innego horyzontu czasowego, wymaga innych kompetencji
i metod sterowania. Związki między tymi poziomami nie mają charakteru
zależności liniowych, chociaż stanowią układ hierarchiczny.
Zmiany zmierzające do usprawniania gospodarowania zasobami
ludzkimi są podstawą wszelkich innych zmian. Bez unowocześnienia
ZZL - głównej siły realizującej rozwój organizacji, wszelkie inne działania
techniczno-organizacyjne, zmierzające do rozwoju organizacji i sprostania
z zakresu ZZL, służących planowaniu i budowaniu jej potencjału
organizacyjnego
Growth of Competitiveness of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Through Open Innovation
Współczesne przedsiębiorstwa mają wiele możliwości kreowania i wdrażania innowacji.
rynku. Celem rozważań jest przedstawienie modeli innowacji otwartych oraz możliwości ich wykorzystania w praktyce przedsiębiorstw z sektora MSP.Contemporary enterprises have many opportunities to create and implement innovation. One of them is the opportunity to make use of knowledge being dormant in the enterprise’s direct environment, outside the organisation. The ability to draw this knowledge becomes today one of the key capabilities to build competitive advantage and ties with the market. In their article, the authors described the cases of application of open innovation at enterprises of the SME sector. The current situation enforces changes in the approach to innovation management at enterprises. The new paradigm of open innovation consists in commitment of external participants in innovative processes. The ability to draw knowledge from the enterprise’s environment becomes today one of the key capabilities to build competitive advantage and strong ties with market players. An aim of considerations is to present the models of open innovation and the opportunities to use them in practice of enterprises from the SME sector
