There is a general assumption that female empowerment leads to better harmony with nature, and to a gentler, kinder world. Are Kerala women paying any attention to their environment? I return to the idea that an enlightened female population can be a powerful voice for change. It is not apparent that the women of Kerala are using their enlightened status to take better care of their land, their oceans or the air they breathe. Let us hope that the empowerment enjoyed by the women of Kerala will not stop at personal freedoms, but that they will step up soon to take their share of our collective responsibilities towards our environment

Building Self Confidence and Competence

Confidence is a feeling of trust in someone or something. To be self-confident is to have confidence in yourself. Self-confident people don't doubt themselves. This is usually a positive word: you can be self-confident without being cocky, arrogant, or overconfident. If you know what you’re doing, you have every reason to be selfconfident. To be precise being self-confident means “A feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgment: Self-confidence has direct correlation with self-esteem. People with low self-esteem have low self-confidence. Self-esteem is your own rating about yourself. If that does not change, self-confidence will not improve. Self-esteem is affected by physical illhealth, negative life events such as losing your job or getting divorced, deficient or frustrating relationships, and a general sense of lack of control. This sense of lack of control is often particularly marked in people who are the victims of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, or of discrimination on the grounds of religion, culture, race, sex, or sexual orientation

Improvement in Paddy Performance through Front Line Demonstration in Kerala State

Frontline demonstrations were conducted in 2012 at five farmers' fields, to popularize the improved variety of paddy. Results of FLD indicated that Sampda variety of paddy gave highest yield of 40.1 q/ha with an average of 30.8 q/ha in demonstration which was more than farmers practices (29.1 q/ha). Net returns (45150 /ha) were higher in improved variety. Thereafter this variety was more popular in Ernakulum, district of Kerala state
