Theoretical Analysis of the Reduction of Neel Temperature in La(CuZn(or Mg)O
Using Tyablikov's decoupling approximation, we calculate the initial
suppression rate of the Neel temperature, , in a quasi two-dimensional diluted Heisenberg antiferromagnet with
nonmagnetic impurities of concentration . In order to explain an
experimental fact that of the Zn-substitution is different
from of the Mg-substitution, we propose a model in which
impurity substitution reduces the intra-plane exchange couplings surrounding
impurities, as well as dilution of spin systems. The decrease of 12% in
exchange coupling constants by Zn substitution and decrease of 6% by Mg
substitution explain those two experimental results, when an appropriate value
of the interplane coupling is used.Comment: 2 pages, 3 figure
Anisotropic electrical and thermal conductivities of the Al76Co22Ni2 decagonal approximant
The electrical (sigma) and thermal conductivity (lambda) of Al76Co22Ni2decagonal approximant has been measured along three orthogonaldirections a*, b and c of the Al76Co22Ni2 unit cell, where (a, c)monoclinic atomic planes are stacked along the perpendicular bdirection. Electrical conductivity is relatively high in all crystallinedirections, appearing in the order sigma(b) >> sigma(c) > sigma(a*).Thermal conductivity appears in the same order lambda(b) > lambda(c) >lambda(a*), So that b is the most conducting direction for bothelectricity and heat. The results are compared to the reportedanisotropic electrical and thermal conductivity of the d-Al-Ni-Codecagonal quasicrystal

Topological surface states hybridized with bulk states of Bi-doped PbSb2Te4 revealed in quasiparticle interference
Topological surface states of Bi-doped PbSb2Te4 [Pb(Bi0.20Sb0.80)2Te4] are
investigated through analyses of quasiparticle interference (QPI) patterns
observed by scanning tunneling microscopy. Interpretation of the experimental
QPI patterns in the reciprocal space is achieved by numerical QPI simulations
using two types of surface density of states produced by density functional
theory calculations or a kp surface state model. We found that the Dirac point
(DP) of the surface state appears in the bulk band gap of this material and,
with the energy being away from the DP, the isoenergy contour of the surface
state is substantially deformed or separated into segments due to hybridization
with bulk electronic states. These findings provide a more accurate picture of
topological surface states, especially at energies away from the DP, providing
valuable insight into the electronic properties of topological insulators.Comment: 7+8 pages, 4+5 figure
HIP AND LUMBOSACRAL JOINT CENTRE LOCATIONS IN ASIAN POPULATION: BIASES BY EXISTING REGRESSIONS AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW METHODS
Accurate prediction of the lumbosacral and hip joint centres (LSJC, HJC) is crucial for the analysis of lumbo-pelvic-hip dynamics in various movements. Here we show that pre-existing regressions proposed by European research groups produce biased estimates of the LSJC and HJC in Japanese males and females (n = 23, 24), and that the biases in LSJC depend on sex. When compared to locations directly measured by MRI, the pre-existing regressions estimated the LSJC to be more posterior in males and more inferior and posterior in females, and the HJC to be more medial for both sexes. We suggest the importance of considering racial and sexual differences in morphology. We propose new regressions for Asians and validate them using leave-one-out cross-validation. Our regression can be a powerful solution for accurate motion analysis in Asians
Beginning vocal students’ learning of classical Italian songs: The process of learning
This study aimed to capture the reality of the learning process and to derive suggestions for future instruction based on the descriptions in the learning records of first-year university students taking vocal music classes. The descriptions can be classified into eight categories. (1) recognition of the situation, (2) mental state, (3) the basic content of vocal music, (4) understanding of classical Italian works and musical expression, (5) Italian pronunciation, (6) ensemble with piano, (7) learning from the appearance of others, and (8) connections with existing learning. We were able to capture aspects of the learners’ learning that became more concrete and developed as the number of lessons increased. We found that the learners deepened their learning systematically as they repeated the lessons according to their situations. Recognition of their achievements seemed to lead to motivation and higher learning. In addition, there were not many descriptions of their recognition of their achievements. The learners’ descriptions of the lessons on classical Italian songs indicated that they were given a wide range of content, but in addition, giving the learners a greater sense of “having done it” would lead to further acquisition of knowledge
