Role of Technology Inclined Public Relations in Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo

The study is specifically interested in roles of technologized public relations and such influence in the dispensation of medical services in Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo. Findings from the research work related public relations to the customer care unit of firms and implies creative rapport cutting across the intra and inter-systems of the medical facility. The research made use of structured in-depth interview (IDI) as its source of data collection. The excellence theory, as well as the modernization theory provided the framework for the study. Thematic analysis was used in data analysis. It is to this end that ICT and Public Relations were seen as interdependent, bearing so much influence on the dispensation of medical services. Which is obvious in the fact that relationships at all levels, stem from communication which connotes appropriate conveyance of information both in content and process. Finally, conclusions from the study show that the medical centre in Jalingo is yet to fully embrace the advantages of technology, let alone its influence in promoting effective public relations. Hence, medical services tend to suffer and require timely interventions of significant bodies

Problems of Social Research in Nigeria

The quest for knowledge is a germane task in an ever increasing changing world from the rear to the fore; from basic to advance and from spatial to a global village. Hence, survival in a world of such dynamism can only be tenable through positive adaptation which is a product of epistemological and ontological truths. Achieving this brings research to bear which is aimed at digging up knowledge for personal and public consumption, while seeking remedy to problems. Research as a factor of discovery and rediscovery of knowledge becomes a relevant ingredient for personal, organizational and national development. A branch of research that explores, explains and describes human behaviorisms and interactions and their consequences on human existence and activities, is the social research. Complexities of human dynamism and several other individual and structural factors often constitute several problems in the execution of the social research venture. It is in this regard that this paper seeks to identify, justify and explain most of these problems plaguing the survival and astuteness of social research and where necessary, make remedial suggestions. The paper would depend on concept-mapping in explaining units of knowledge that make up this work; provide for a theoretical orientation via Paul Romer’s New Growth Theory and as well make reference to relevant theoretical and empirical literatures for adequate clarification, comprehension and action sought where needed

Synergizing perspectives in social work:Blending critical theory and solution-focused model

One lacuna in social work practice is the temptation to excessively focus on treating the environment without commensurate treatment for the individual and vice-versa. This is further fostered by learning conservative and liberal perspectives in social work as independent of themselves, without efforts to synthesize them. It is for this purpose that this paper hopes to achieve a synthesis of two theories that are respectively typical of explaining societies and individuals at both extremes. Thus, while the critical theory makes for explaining place of societal structures in remedying problems faced by clients, solution focused therapy concentrates on remedies residing within the client’s potentials, resources and strengths. Data will be sourced from secondary sources, while concept mapping will aid in illustrations.

Motion Pictures and the Decline of Cultural Values among Nigerian Youths

Cultural sustainability, which is a part of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, highlights the imperativeness of intergenerational continuity of cultural heritage, beliefs, and practices among different peoples of the world. It is in this light that our qualitative study examines the impacts on cultural values in Nigeria by both indigenous and foreign motion pictures, and the possible implications for the practice of social work. The study used a cross-sectional survey research design to source data from 48 youths by means of in-depth interviews. The data were analysed thematically in line with a phenomenological research design. The findings showed that indigenous cultural values (language, dress styles, sexual norms, etc.) are threatened, and a preference for Western motion pictures was implicated. However, the participants equally mentioned positive events characterising Western motion pictures, which they recommended that indigenous motion pictures should imbibe. Growing and developing the overall quality of the contents of indigenous motion pictures through enhanced viewers' preference were discussed to have social and economic values which social workers could help harness.</p

The practice of social work is one that is inextricably linked to a sound theoretical base, owing to the wide range of systematic procedures it follows in problem solving. Social work can’t be separated from science because of its emphasis on empiricism and scientific methodologies in case treatment. Therefore, sets of ideas and constructs well captured in theories and models become germane to the explanation, description and eventual antidotes to social work cases. It is in this context that model and theory would be made to fit into jurisdictions different from each other. This would be buttressed with the crisis intervention, utilized repeatedly in social work to deal with cases that occasion disequilibrium at micro, mezzo and macro levels of social work practice and engagement. In order to achieve this, militancy in the Niger Delta which have necessitated political, social and economic crisis for the citizens, Nigerian state and the government, would serve as a point of reference.
