Unemployment Compensation (UC): Eligibility for Students Under State and Federal Laws
[Excerpt] Unemployment Compensation (UC) is a joint federal-state program that provides income support payments to eligible workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. Federal law sets out broad guidelines with regard to how the UC program operates and how it should be administered. State laws establish eligibility criteria for who qualifies for the program. In the case of a student who becomes unemployed, eligibility would depend on how their respective state treats students within the UC system.
Most states disqualify students from UC benefits while they are in school or disqualify individuals from UC benefits if they leave work to attend school. This is typically due to the presumption that students would be unavailable for work during the time that they are in school. However, exceptions and variations exist from state to state. Many workers who lost their jobs and remain in school may be eligible for UC benefits depending on their circumstances and how their respective states treats students.
This report describes these state variations in further detail and how states consider students within the framework of their own unique UC programs
Bogoliubov quasiparticle spectra of the effective d-wave model for cuprate superconductivity
An exact-diagonalization technique on finite-size clusters is used to study
the ground state and excitation spectra of the two-dimensional effective
fermion model, a fictious model of hole quasiparticles derived from numerical
studies of the two-dimensional t-J model at low doping. We show that there is
actually a reasonable range of parameter values where the -wave
pairing of holes occurs and the low-lying excitation can be described by the
picture of Bogoliubov quasiparticles in the BCS pairing theory. The gap
parameter of a size (where is the attractive
interaction between holes) is estimated at low doping levels. The paired state
gives way to the state of clustering of holes for some stronger attractions.Comment: 4 pages, RevTeX. Figures available upon request to

Inverse photoemission in strongly correlated electron systems
Based on exact results for small clusters of 2D t-J model we demonstrate the
existence of several distinct `channels' in its inverse photoemission (IPES)
spectrum. Hole-like quasiparticles can either be annihilated completely, or
leave behind a variable number of spin excitations, which formed the `dressing
cloud' of the annihilated hole. In the physical parameter regime the latter
processes carry the bulk of IPES weight and although the Fermi surface takes
the form of hole pockets, the distribution of spectal weight including these
`magnon-bands' in the IPES spectrum is reminiscent of free electrons. The
emerging scenario for Fermiology and spectral weight distribution is shown to
be consistent with photoemission, inverse photemission and de Haas--van Alphen

Landau mapping and Fermi liquid parameters of the 2D t-J model
We study the momentum distribution function n(k) in the 2D t-J model on small
clusters by exact diagonalization. We show that n(k) can be decomposed
systematically into two components with Bosonic and Fermionic doping
dependence. The Bosonic component originates from the incoherent motion of
holes and has no significance for the low energy physics. For the Fermionic
component we exlicitely perform the one-to-one Landau mapping between the low
lying eigenstates of the t-J model clusters and those of an equivalent system
of spin-1/2 quasiparticles. This mapping allows to extract the quasiparticle
dispersion, statistics, and Landau parameters. The results show conclusively
that the 2D t-J model for small doping is a Fermi liquid with a `small' Fermi
surface and a moderately strong attractive interaction between the
