Extraction of Contaminated Soil Using High Pressure Jet Grouting

    Get PDF
Removal of contaminated soil underneath existing structures causes settlement. There is a need for a remediation technology that eliminates this problem. The jet grouting by the triple rod system can be combined with an on site remediation technology (e.g., soil washing). Jet grouting was developed primarily for underpinning and/or excavation support. The benefits of this technology lie in the future reduction of structural settlement, and site access flexibility

    Bone-shaped Short Fiber Composite

    Get PDF
Civil engineers use steel, fiberglass and other similar materials to increase concrete\u27s strength and toughness, but using those materials often requires costly construction techniques. Short-wire reinforced concrete should become a favorite technology since the process is compatible with standard construction processes and the steel used for the bone-shaped fibers is relatively cheap. Researchers at Department of Energy\u27s Los Alamos National Laboratory have discovered that enlarging the ends of small fibers mixed into concrete substantially increases the material\u27s overall strength and toughness

Shaking Table System for Geotechnical Centrifuge

    Get PDF
The shaking table system for geotechnical centrifuge, which can simulate sinusoidal and real seismic waves under a centrifugal force of 50 times earth gravity, is capable of providing significant data for the seismic design of structures. The shaking table can accommodate test specimens up to 250kg under 50G condition, so it can be used to perform various types of ground shaking tests

    Stay-In-Place (SIP) Formwork

    Get PDF
With the recent development of composite materials, SIP system are offering architects and engineers numerous advantages over competitive systems such as maximum flexibility, cost saving, and efficient time control in the various construction field; residential, commercial, industrial building and bridge as well. SIP systems have been applied to various type of project providing various panels composed of synthetic materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), galvanized coiled sheet steel, fabricated steel, carbon/epoxy thin shell and so on for the specific requirement of each project

T.O.C.S. : Hydrogen Sulfide Remission System

    Get PDF
BioEnviroTech, Inc., (BET) developed Toxicity Odor Corrosion Sulfides (T.O.C.S.) Remission System for hydrogen sulfide reduction in municipal and industrial wastewater sewer, lift stations and force mains. This safe and cost effective biotreatment technology uses safe and natural bacteria to interrupt sulfide generation

    Cable-Based Water Leak Detection Technology

    Get PDF
Water leaks can be considered as a serious problem from many sources such as water supply and return chains, air conditioning units, cold-water chillers, clogged drains, damaged skylights or windows, or even construction errors. The new water leak detection technologies can provide significant advantages in cost, reliability, and easy adoption have continued since the traditional technology mainly focusing on a spot detector revealed several limitations

    Armstrong i-ceilings - Wireless Systems

    Get PDF
It is sometimes inconvenient to use cell phones with laptop computers in many buildings, especially in a room with no windows or on the basement floors. Cell phone or wireless equipment coverage is limited in many buildings due to the lack of technical support to the wireless service. It has required installing many small antennas in a building. Armstrong\u27s new i-ceilings Wireless Systems Antenna Panel is a standard Armstrong ceiling panel with the antenna already imbedded inside

    PURDUE’S BIOWALL

    Get PDF
Mechanical ventilation, energy recovery ventilation, and infiltration (air that leaks into a building) are commonly used to introduce fresh air. These are all valid approaches, but a living plant-based filter is an innovative complement to these traditional technologies. A Biowall has the potential to improve indoor air quality while reducing the quantity of air needed for ventilation, creating the potential for energy savings. Figure 1 shows a Biowall prototype being evaluated in the ReNEWW House, a research home located near the Purdue University campus (http://www.renewwhouse.com/)

Builder SupplyNet - Online Trading Community

    Get PDF
The online, virtual trade community can simplify constructions firms’ business processes by providing enhanced marketing, bidding, communication and commerce. Builder SupplyNet is hosted at UUNET™, providing services with a direct connection to the UUNET backbone capacity network. Builder SupplyNet\u27s technology was developed by Microstate, Inc. The Hamilton Software interfaces with SQL databases and enables real-time editing of members\u27 pages and data

MDP (MACHINE DRIVE POWER) INTELLIGENT COMPACTION TECHNOLOGY

    Get PDF
Caterpillar developed MDP (Machine Drive Power) technology to fill this gap. Rather than an accelerometer and vibratory drum, it uses the principle of rolling resistance to provide indications of soil stiffness. This allows it to perform more reliably on cohesive and granular soils with less variability than accelerometer systems. It also means that the technology can be used on both vibratory and static drum compactors, which are often used on larger sites. While the technology is quite useful on its own, it is even better as a complementary technology to the existing accelerometer-based systems. Contractors who use vibratory soil compactors equipped with MDP and accelerometer-based measurement systems enjoy the widest application range, able to ensure uniform, high quality compaction on nearly any soil type
