Notes on the correlation between sudden stratospheric warmings and solar activity

Get PDF
A correlation between solar activity and normalized occurrence rate of sudden stratospheric warmings (SSWs) has been found. As a proxy for solar activity, the 10.7 cm solar radio flux has been used. In order to find the correlation, we derived a normalized occurrence rate of major sudden stratospheric warmings (MSSWs) based on both the ERA-40/ERA-Interim dataset and NCEP data. Based on this distribution, we calculated the correlation coefficient, which amounts to 0.63, with a significance of 90.68 %, for ERA-40/ERA-Interim, and 0.55 for the NCEP–NCAR-I reanalysis, with a significance of 83.80 %. Additionally, we calculate correlation coefficients for Lyman-alpha flux and sunspot numbers with the analogous method for the same period.</p

Urban land development in the late XVIII – first half of the XIXth century as a manifestation of modernisation (on the materials of Tambov)

Introduction. This article is devoted to the issue of urban land development and is based on the modernisation concept of historical development. The relevance of the study consists of two aspects – the active interest of scholars in urban history and the discovery of lacunas associated with the lack of distinctions between urban land and vygnyas in the studies of many authors. The novelty of the work is due to the filling of this lacuna, as well as the introduction of a new set of sources on the topic. Within the framework of the research we used classical methods for historical science (problem-chronological, comparative and systematic), as well as methods of historical informatics. Materials and methods. The source base of the study is the archival materials presented in the State Archive of the Tambov Region. The main sources are "The case of the plan for the outlying lands of the town of Tambov for September 1827". Tambov for September 1827 – March 1840" and "Materials on compilation of the statistical table of Tambov province for 1846". The result of the research can be considered as a proof of the necessity to distinguish between the concepts of urban land and vygonnaya land. Results. This result provides an increase in the reliability of the interpretation of statistical data in assessing the pace of modernisation in cities in the studies of urban historians. Thus, the study has succeeded in fulfilling the original goal of determining the possibility of assessing the pace of modernisation in reliance on the development of urban outlying land. Conclusion. The legislative acts and boundary instructions given in the framework of this study confirm the special legal status of the driven land. Statistical data indicate a much more extensive pace of modernization on the vyhonnaya land than on the territory of the city. Thus, it can be argued that it is correct to consider the development of urban pasture lands as an indicator of urban modernization at the end of the XVIII – first half of the XIX centuries

Structural and magnetic dynamics of a laser induced phase transition in FeRh

We use time-resolved x-ray diffraction and magnetic optical Kerr effect to study the laser induced antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition in FeRh. The structural response is given by the nucleation of independent ferromagnetic domains (\tau_1 ~ 30ps). This is significantly faster than the magnetic response (\tau_2 ~ 60ps) given by the subsequent domain realignment. X-ray diffraction shows that the two phases co-exist on short time-scales and that the phase transition is limited by the speed of sound. A nucleation model describing both the structural and magnetic dynamics is presented.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures - changed to reflect version accepted for PR

Detailed EPR study of spin crossover dendrimeric iron(III) complex

Get PDF
The unusual magnetic behavior of the first dendritic Fe3+ complex with general formula [Fe(L)2]+Cl -·H2O based on a branched Schiff base has been investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and Mössbauer spectroscopy. EPR displays that complex consists of the three types of magnetically active iron centers: one S = 1/2 low-spin (LS) and two S = 5/2 high-spin (HS) centers with strong low-symmetry and weak distorted octahedral crystal fields. Analysis of the magnetic behavior reflected by I versus T (where I is the EPR lines integrated intensity of the spectrum) demonstrates that the dendritic Fe3+ complex has sufficiently different behavior in three temperature intervals. The first (4.2-50 K) interval corresponds to the antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between LS-LS, LS-HS, and HS-HS centers. The appearance of a presumable magnetoelectric effect is registered in the second (50-200 K) temperature interval, whereas a spin transition process between LS and HS centers occurs in the third (200-330 K) one. The coexistence of the magnetic ordering, presumable magnetoelectric effect, and spin crossover in one and the same material has been detected for the first time. The Mössbauer spectroscopy data completely confirm the EPR results. © 2013 American Chemical Society

DEVELOPMENT OF MARKETPLACES IN THE CONTEXT OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AS A RESULT OF STRUCTURAL SHIFTS IN THE ECONOMY

Get PDF
Globalization and increased volatility of global markets, as well as increased competition, lead to the need for the business community to create new sustainable business models that are less susceptible to the negative effects of globalization. The sustainability of business models is determined by the effective use of resources: natural, material, financial and intellectual. The result of the transformation is the transition to network interaction and the formation of ecosystems of suppliers, partners, consumers and competitors around the business sphere. The main conclusions of the research paper are reduced to the need to achieve a comprehensive development of the digital economy, taking into account the interrelationships of economic processes and structural transformations. In this regard, the analysis of the relationship and principles of structural shifts in economic processes against the background of digital transformation becomes particularly relevant

Benchmarking microbarom radiation and propagation model against infrasound recordings: a vespagram-based approach

Get PDF
This study investigates the use of a vespagram-based approach as a tool for multi-directional comparison between simulated microbarom soundscapes and infrasound data recorded at ground-based array stations. Data recorded at the IS37 station in northern Norway during 2014–2019 have been processed to generate vespagrams (velocity spectral analysis) for five frequency bands between 0.1 and 0.6 Hz. The back azimuth resolution between the vespagram and the microbarom model is harmonized by smoothing the modeled soundscapes along the back azimuth axis with a kernel corresponding to the frequency-dependent array resolution. An estimate of similarity between the output of the microbarom radiation and propagation model and infrasound observations is then generated based on the image-processing approach of the mean square difference. The analysis reveals that vespagrams can monitor seasonal variations in the microbarom azimuthal distribution, amplitude, and frequency, as well as changes during sudden stratospheric warming events. The vespagram-based approach is computationally inexpensive, can uncover microbarom source variability, and has the potential for near-real-time stratospheric diagnostics and atmospheric model assessment.</p

© 2015, Mediterranean Center of Social and Educational Research. All rights reserved. The relevance of the research problem is due to the fact that deviant behavior is becoming increasingly common among adolescents, and the defects of the family socialization are one of the main reasons of this phenomenon. The article seeks to explore the impact of child-parent relationship on the propensity of adolescents toward various kinds of deviant behavior. The leading methods for the study of this problem are the psychological testing and analysis of the statistically processed obtained data. In the course of the empirical research it has been revealed that the adolescents’ propensity toward deviant behavior worsens with emotional coldness, suspicion on the part of their parents, and is attenuated by the parents’ psychological acceptance of their children, friendly attitude to them. The article contents can be useful for developing effective programs to reduce the adolescents’ propensity toward deviant behavior
