It’s a Relationship: A Qualitative Exploration of the Challenges to Interorganizational Collaborative Relationships
Interorganizational collaboration is increasingly used to address social issues, but it can fail when the underlying relationships become damaged. This study explores the qualities, characteristics, and processes that can fracture collaborative relationships and the consequences of failing to correct these fractures. Using a qualitative design, interview data were collected from 19 executive directors of Canadian human service organizations. The findings highlight several challenges to collaboration and show the importance of exploring negative outcomes of inaction. An additional aim of this study is to provide strategies for building and nurturing collaborative relationships
Impacts of chronic stress on urinary bladder function & recovery through modification of PACAP signaling
Stress can cause or contribute to bladder dysfunction though specific effects remain unclear. Individuals with interstitial cystitis (IC)/bladder pain syndrome (BPS) experience increased symptom severity with stress, including pain and increased urgency and frequency of voiding. Further research can identify stress-related changes to urinary mechanisms, such as changes in sensory neurotransmitters and subsequent receptor expression. These factors could then become targets for future therapies providing bladder dysfunction relief. Alterations in PACAP and TRPV channel expression have been shown in sensory pathways in response to disease. My research studied the effects of chronic stress on bladder function and the potential for PACAP(6-38), a PACAP antagonist, to recover normal function. Mice went through a repeated variate stress regime followed by bladder tube implant and cystometrogram recording. Bladder, dorsal root ganglia (DRG), and spinal cord tissues were collected and immunostained for the presence of TRPV1, TRPV4, and PACAP expression. Chronic stress decreased inter-contraction interval (ICI) and bladder capacity while increasing bladder pressures. Both control and stressed male and female mice showed improvement following a 30-minute intravesical infusion of PACAP(6-38), with ICI and bladder capacity measures having the most consistent improvement across groups. PACAP and TRPV1 expression was upregulated in the bladder afferent pathway. These findings suggest that chronic stress can contribute to bladder dysfunction, and it seems to be mediated in part by upregulation of PACAP and TRPV channel activity. With further research, these factors may be valid molecular targets for therapy. As chronic stress may present alone or in combination with other conditions (IC/BPS, injury, etc.), it is critical to understand stress-related changes in order to reduce or eliminate their impact

RGA is an interpreter for a special language designed for the analysis of reachability graphs, or control flow graphs, generated from Petri nets. Although in some cases the reachability graph can become too large to be tractable, or can even be infinite, many interesting problems exist whose reachability graphs are of reasonable size. In RGA, the user has access to the names of the places in the net, and to the states of the reachability graph. The structure of the graph is also available through functions which return the sets of successor or predecessor states of a state and the transition-firings connecting the states. Rather than providing a number of predefined analysis functions, RGA provides primitive functions which allow the user to conduct complex analyses with little programming effort. The wire is fed through the tungsten electrode thereby reducing the size of the torch to eliminate clearance problems which exist with external wire guides. Since the wire is preheated from the tungsten more wire may be fed into the weld puddle, and the wire will not oxidize because it is always within the shielding gas

Rapid fabrication of polymer microfluidic systems for the production of artificial lipid bilayers
A polymer microfluidic device has been fabricated using rapid prototyping techniques. The device was built up to allow the formation and subsequent investigation of artificial bilayer lipid membranes (BLMs). A simple dry film photoresist stamp was used to hot emboss microfluidic channels into PMMA films. Laser micromachining was employed to form an aperture into PMMA films. Laser micromachining was employed to form an aperture through the PMMA channels, across which the BLM was later formed. The dry film phororesist was also used as a simple etch mask for the deep etching of glass substrates in buffered HF solutions, which was used in this work for the production of glass embossing stamps. We show that bilayer films can be successfully produced across laser micromachined apertures in PMMA films
