London's King's Cross redevelopment: a compact, resource efficient and 'liveable' global city model for an era of climate emergency?
Cities have long been subject to urban containment policies against urban sprawl. Climate change concerns have recently added to the imperative to densify urban space. Urban compaction is often pursued through the creation of âexemplarâ urban developments that superficially implement âbest practiceâ ideas from elsewhere. In this paper, we abandon the notion of âbest practiceâ in favour of context-sensitive âgood practicesâ. Taking Londonâs Kingâs Cross redevelopment as a case study, this paper draws on qualitative methods to examine the contribution of context and path-dependency, as a product of local and non-local forces, to the emergence of King´s Cross as âgood practiceâ
Individual and organisational determinants of use of ergonomic devices in healthcare
(CS/IPC): 0.4%/2.7%, day 4 (2.1%/6.1%), day 7 (2.5%/7.9%), day 14 (4.7%/7.3%), and day 90 (1.0%/3.3%) from baseline (preoperative situation). On days 1, 4, and 7 there was a significant difference in leg circumference between the two treatment groups. Conclusions: Edema following femoropopliteal bypass surgery occurs in all patients. For the prevention and treatment of that edema the use of a class I CS proved superior to treatment with IPC. The use of CS remains the recommended practice following femoropopliteal bypass surgery
Hotspot mixing:A framework for heterodyne mixing in superconducting hot-electron bolometers
We propose a framework to interpret heterodyne mixing in superconducting hot-electron bolometers. The physical conversion process of the mixer is the result of an electronic hotspot, of which the length, and consequently the resistance, oscillates at the intermediate frequency. On the basis of this concept, we calculate the (un)pumped currentâvoltage relation, the dc voltage responsivity, and the mixer conversion efficiency
