Graphyne: Hexagonal network of carbon with versatile Dirac cones
We study alpha, beta, and gamma graphyne, a class of graphene allotropes with
carbon triple bonds, using a first-principles density-functional method and
tight-binding calculation. We find that graphyne has versatile Dirac cones and
it is due to remarkable roles of the carbon triple bonds in electronic and
atomic structures. The carbon triple bonds modulate effective hopping matrix
elements and reverse their signs, resulting in Dirac cones with reversed
chirality in alpha graphyne, momentum shift of the Dirac point in beta
graphyne, and switch of the energy gap in gamma graphyne. Furthermore, the
triple bonds provide chemisorption sites of adatoms which can break sublattice
symmetry while preserving planar sp2-bonding networks. These features of
graphyne open new possibilities for electronic applications of carbon-based

Structural and Correlation Effects in the Itinerant Insulating Antiferromagnetic Perovskite NaOsO3
The orthorhombic perovskite NaOsO3 undergoes a continuous metal-insulator
transition (MIT), accompanied by antiferromagnetic (AFM) order at T_N=410 K,
suggested to be an example of the rare Slater (itinerant) MIT. We study this
system using ab initio and related methods, focusing on the origin and nature
of magnetic ordering and the MIT. The rotation and tilting of OsO6 octahedra in
the GdFeO3 structure result in moderate narrowing the band width of the t_{2g}
manifold, but sufficient to induce flattening of bands and AFM order within the
local spin density approximation (LSDA), where it remains metallic but with a
deep pseudogap. Including on-site Coulomb repulsion U, at U_c ~2 eV a MIT
occurs only in the AFM state. Effects of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on the band
structure seem minor as expected for a half-filled shell, but SOC
doubles the critical value U_c necessary to open a gap and also leads to large
magnetocrystalline energy differences in spite of normal orbital moments no
greater than 0.1. Our results are consistent with a Slater MIT driven by
magnetic order, induced by a combination of structurally-induced band narrowing
and moderate Coulomb repulsion, with SOC necessary for a full picture. Strong
p-d hybridization reduces the moment, and when bootstrapped by the reduced
Hund's rule coupling (proportional to the moment) gives a calculated moment of
~1 , consistent with the observed moment and only a third of the formal
value. We raise and discuss one important question: since this AFM
ordering is at q=0 (in the 20 atom cell) where nesting is a moot issue, what is
the microscopic driving force for ordering and the accompanying MIT?Comment: 9 page
Anisotropy, Itineracy, and Magnetic Frustration in High-Tc Iron Pnictides
Using first-principle density functional theory calculations combined with
insight from a tight-binding representation, dynamical mean field theory, and
linear response theory, we have extensively investigated the electronic
structures and magnetic interactions of nine ferropnictides representing three
different structural classes. The calculated magnetic interactions are found to
be short-range, and the nearest () and next-nearest () exchange
constants follow the universal trend of J_{1a}/2J_{2}\sim 1, despite their
itinerant origin and extreme sensitivity to the z-position of As. These results
bear on the discussion of itineracy versus magnetic frustration as the key
factor in stabilizing the superconducting ground state. The calculated spin
wave dispersions show strong magnetic anisotropy in the Fe plane, in contrast

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY OF A U.S./CANADIAN WHEAT POOL: A GAME THEORY ANALYSIS
The problem of declining wheat prices and excess supply has been the subject of recent economic studies partly because it coincides with the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform (FAIR) Act of 1996, and partly because efforts to decrease supply domestically have led to increased imports from Canada. This paper develops a game theory optimization model of market efficiency and derives conditions under which voluntary pooling is sustained for U.S./Canadian durum and hard red spring wheat producers. Analysis reveals that U.S. and Canadian farmers can increase farm returns with efficiency gains from pooling and by internalizing benefits from grain blending and logistics. In Indonesia, a woman was sentenced to six months in jail for libel after an e-mail she sent to friends about poor treatment she received in a hospital was posted on Facebook. These are not isolated cases of persecution, but part of a broad pattern of challenges facing individuals around the world. The United Nations recently released a report on legal trends involving restriction of expression on the Internet, declaring that freedom of expression on the Internet is a human right. If Internet freedom is a human right, what are the limits of that entitlement? This Essay explores existing legal models and restrictions on online communication through case studies, including discussion of restrictions in countries affected by the Arab Spring of 2011. This Essay suggests six basic elements for a legal framework that can support the unique challenges presented by the Internet as it becomes a primary mode of communication

The ND Durum Wheat Pool may provide additional revenue to durum wheat producers by raising the domestic prices in the North American market with full cooperation from the Canadian Wheat Board. The pool also could provide additional revenue to its members by improving marketing efficiency. On the other hand, the ND Spring Wheat Pool is less likely to provide additional revenue to spring wheat producers by raising domestic prices, mainly because hard red spring and winter wheat are highly substitutable.
