Understanding oscillons: standing waves in a ball

Oscillons are localised long-lived pulsating states in the three-dimensional ϕ4\phi^4 theory. We gain insight into the spatio-temporal structure and bifurcation of the oscillons by studying time-periodic solutions in a ball of a finite radius. A sequence of weakly localised {\it Bessel waves} -- nonlinear standing waves with the Bessel-like rr-dependence -- is shown to extend from eigenfunctions of the linearised operator. The lowest-frequency Bessel wave serves as a starting point of a branch of periodic solutions with exponentially localised cores and small-amplitude tails decaying slowly towards the surface of the ball. A numerical continuation of this branch gives rise to the energy-frequency diagram featuring a series of resonant spikes. We show that the standing waves associated with the resonances are born in the period-multiplication bifurcations of the Bessel waves with higher frequencies. The energy-frequency diagram for a sufficiently large ball displays sizeable intervals of stability against spherically-symmetric perturbations.Comment: 13 pages, 12 figure

Two and three-dimensional oscillons in nonlinear Faraday resonance

We study 2D and 3D localised oscillating patterns in a simple model system exhibiting nonlinear Faraday resonance. The corresponding amplitude equation is shown to have exact soliton solutions which are found to be always unstable in 3D. On the contrary, the 2D solitons are shown to be stable in a certain parameter range; hence the damping and parametric driving are capable of suppressing the nonlinear blowup and dispersive decay of solitons in two dimensions. The negative feedback loop occurs via the enslaving of the soliton's phase, coupled to the driver, to its amplitude and width.Comment: 4 pages; 1 figur

Impurity-induced stabilization of solitons in arrays of parametrically driven nonlinear oscillators

Chains of parametrically driven, damped pendula are known to support soliton-like clusters of in-phase motion which become unstable and seed spatiotemporal chaos for sufficiently large driving amplitudes. We show that the pinning of the soliton on a "long" impurity (a longer pendulum) expands dramatically its stability region whereas "short" defects simply repel solitons producing effective partition of the chain. We also show that defects may spontaneously nucleate solitons.Comment: 4 pages in RevTeX; 7 figures in ps forma

Quantum squeezing of optical dissipative structures

We show that any optical dissipative structure supported by degenerate optical parametric oscillators contains a special transverse mode that is free from quantum fluctuations when measured in a balanced homodyne detection experiment. The phenomenon is not critical as it is independent of the system parameters and, in particular, of the existence of bifurcations. This result is a consequence of the spatial symmetry breaking introduced by the dissipative structure. Effects that could degrade the squeezing level are considered.Comment: 4 pages and a half, 1 fugure. Version to appear in Europhysics Letter

The article presents the results of the analysis of the marketing potential of fortified food products for the nutrition of women during breastfeeding and pregnancy. Catering for pregnant women is one of the important conditions for the normal pregnancy, stable functioning of the organs and systems of a woman during this difficult period and the birth of a healthy baby. There is a deficiency of a wide range of nutrients in pregnant and lactating women in various regions of Russia, so this problem solution can be considered a very promising direction in the state food industry. In the course of marketing research, a simultaneous cross-sectional study has been carried out, the possibility of using a food enrichment system from domestic raw materials of deep processing to produce an assortment of functional pastes has been assessed. The demand for the developed product line of products in the market has been studied and a target audience has been revealed. The calculations of the optimal price level for fortified products for the therapeutic and prophylactic nutrition of pregnant women are presented, the range of retail prices per unit of finished product has been determined. The potential market capacity has been estimated, the values obtained in answering the questions of marketing research have been taken as an assumption. The results obtained indicate that the increase in the price of developed finished products compared to traditional don’t not go beyond the purchasing power of the target audience. At the same time, the proposed product line of pastes with a therapeutic and prophylactic orientation will make it possible to correct violations of female homeostasis during pregnancy and breastfeedin

The purpose of this study is to assess the level of stress during the retelling of a text in English by students majoring in Linguistics and in Science. In order to achieve this goal an experiment was conducted. Forty students participated in the experiment, 20 linguists and 20 students of nonlinguistic specialties (mainly Biology). To analyze the stress of the subjects we measured heart rate and skin-galvanic reaction of each of the participants in the experiment

Travelling solitons in the parametrically driven nonlinear Schroedinger equation

We show that the parametrically driven nonlinear Schroedinger equation has wide classes of travelling soliton solutions, some of which are stable. For small driving strengths nonpropogating and moving solitons co-exist while strongly forced solitons can only be stably when moving sufficiently fast.Comment: The paper is available as the JINR preprint E17-2000-147(Dubna, Russia) and the preprint of the Max-Planck Institute for the Complex Systems mpipks/0009011, Dresden, Germany. Experience of the successful treatment with canakinumab of a patient with NLPC4-associated autoinflammatory syndrome with enterocolitis

The article shows the observation of rare NLPC4-associated autoinflammatory syndrome with enterocolitis and familial cold urticaria. Diagnosis is confirmed molecularly-genetically: previously not described mutation c.928C>T in the heterozygous state in NLRC4 gene is discovered by a method of the new generation sequencing. The use of a monoclonal antibody to the interleukin 1 canakinumab provided complete relief of fever and skin and intestinal symptoms in just 1 week of treatment. Later the signs of inflammation have disappeared completely; the patient’s quality of life improved and life-threatening complications were prevented. The above example demonstrates the high clinical efficacy of canakinumab in the patient with NLRC4-associated autoinflammatory syndrome and suggests promising therapeutic use of interleukin 1 blockers in such patients. There were no adverse events during canakinumab therapy
