Light Sources Based on Relativistic Ion Beams

Possible parameters of Light Sources (LS) based on Backward Rayleigh Scattering (BRS) of laser photons on relativistic ion beams in storage rings are discussed. It was shown that the parameters of the LS based on the RHIC storage ring (dedicated to High Energy Physics now) satisfy the requirements of the 2d generation LS. Using the ordinary or enhanced radiative cooling of ion beams in storage rings by broad-band lasers will permit to decrease essentially their emittance, dimensions, angular and energy spreads and convert them to the next generation of LS.Comment: 5 pages, no figures, report on the conference "Channeling 2012", Algero, Sardinia, It. Grasers based on particle accelerators and on lasers

Grasers based on a stimulated emission of gravitational radiation by relativistic charged particle beams in external fields and on a conversion of laser radiation into gravitational one in the magnetic fields as well as detectors are discussed. A scheme of the gravitational radiation not accompanied by an useless inaccessible by a value average power of the electromagnetic radiation and a stimulation of the conversion of gravitons into photons in gravitational detectors by an open resonator are considered.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, Presented to ICFA Workshop QABP98, Monterey, 4-9 Jan. 199

Comment to the paper "The energy conservation law for electromagnetic field in application to problems of radiation of moving particles "

In the paper [B.M.Bolotovskii, S.N.Stoliarov, Uspekhi Fizicheskich Nauk, v.162, No 3, p.195, 1992] the energy conservation law was applied to a problem of radiation of a charged particle in an external electromagnetic field. The authors consecutively and mathematically strictly solved the problem but received wrong result. They derived an expression which includes a change of the energies of the electromagnetic fields accompanying the moving particle corresponding to the initial and final velocity of the particle. The energy of the field accompanying the particle is the energy of the particle of the electromagnetic origin. It should not enter the solution of the problem. The origin of the mistake made by the authors is discussed in this comment.Comment: 4 pages, LaTeX, Presented to Uspekhi Phyzicheskich Nau

    To Foundations of Classical Electrodynamics

In the present work foundations of the law of the energy conservation and the introduction of particles in the classical electrodynamics are discussed. We pay attention to a logic error which takes place at an interpretation of the Poynting's theorem as the law of conservation of energy. It was shown that the laws of conservation of energy and momentum of the system of electromagnetic fields and charged particles does not follow from the equations of electrodynamics and the violation of these laws is displayed at the energy change of particles. Particular examples are considered which make it possible to restrict a possible kind of fields of a non-electromagnetic origin. We hope that this work will permit to produce a more comprehensive analysis and to stimulate the next step to the development of the foundations of the classical and quantum electrodynamics.Comment: 20 pages, LaTeX, Internal Report FIAN 1975, the Preprint FIAN No 196, 1980. Motion of particles in storage rings in the presence of a counterpropagating laser beam I

    Get PDF
The dynamics of charged particle beams interacting with laser beams and material targets in storage rings is presented. Formulas for the radiative damping, quantum excitation and equilibrium parameters of ion and electron beams determined by the backward rayleigh and backward compton scattering are derived. General case is considered. It takes into account the possibility of the periodical displacement of the laser beam in the radial direction with varying velocity in the process of the interaction of the beams and includes the possibility of the description of dynamics of muon beams interacting with material targets in storage rings (enhanced ionization cooling). The example is considered and some applications of being cooled beams are discussed.Comment: 18 pages, LaTe
