Border Crossings: Understanding the Civil, Criminal, and Immigration Implications for Battered Immigrants (And Others) Fleeing Across State Lines With Their Children

    Get PDF
This article provides an overview of the impact of state criminal parental kidnapping or custodial interference statutes on immigrant survivors of domestic violence who already have left or wish to leave their state with their children. Specifically, it discusses the jurisdictional laws that relate to interstate custody, criminal implications of intrastate versus interstate custodial interference, the varying applicability of custodial interference statutes for parents who do and do not have court-ordered custody of their children, statutory exceptions or defenses available to survivors of domestic violence facing prosecution on charges of criminal parental kidnapping, and immigration consequences related to a conviction under such statutes. The article also provides an overview of the implications of interstate parental relocation on civil family court custody determinations. It concludes with a discussion of ethical issues that may arise for lawyers representing survivors who flee from violence with their children

A new and novel method to harness more wind energy has been designed Details of the experimental results and theoretical explanation is presented in the paper. The simplicity and economic viability of the method is expected to be a boon in converting poor windy sites to usable ones and to harness more energy at the existing windmill sites

Synthesis and Characterization of Zeolite from Refractory Brick Waste

    Get PDF
The synthesis of zeolite from refractory brick waste using hydrothermal technique had been conducted. Two different reactans, NaOH and Mg(OH)2, were separately employed to react with SiO2 and Al2O3 from brick sample to produce metal silicate and metal aluminate which were then reacted to obtain zeolite. XRF results show that the synthesized products using both reactants have Si/Al ratios between 1-1.5 considered as low type of zeolites regardless some remaining impurities.  XRD data reveal a typical pattern of zeolite with 2 Ɵ angles of 15.91; 19.52; 25.47; 32.20; 35.54 and 41.54.  The IR vibration characteristic of Si-O and Al-O bonds appears in 454 cm-1 while the symmetric and asymmetric stretching vibrations of these two bonds absorb around 679.66 – 778.02 cm-1 and 2033.96-1092.42 cm-1, respectively. The O-H group from Si-OH associated with the formation of zeolite gives a characteristic feature at 3618 cm-1. SEM analysis also shows similar morphological features with natrolite zeolite. The use of NaOH as reactant gives more zeolite product compared to Mg(OH)2 reactant

Attitude and perception versus reality of COVID-19 vaccination among healthcare professional: a survey

Background: The pandemic of COVID-19 infection has almost paralyzed the world since the first infection was reported in December 2019. We have seen 3 waves of infection in the country, out of which the second wave caused by the delta variant was the most severe. Along with the preventive measures of masking, maintaining social distance, and handwashing, the vaccines seemed to be the most logical next step. Many vaccines received emergency use approvals with hardly any efficacy and adverse effects data available with the process inducing a significant amount of anxiety among the public. This survey was aimed at understanding the attitude and perception of our hospital employees towards COVID-19 vaccination. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted among health care workers (HCW) at CMC, Vellore between March 2021 to July 2021. The HCWs who are willing to participate in this study were recruited and collected the quantitative data on their attitude and perception towards COVID vaccine. In-depth interviews were conducted among those who did not take vaccine to understand the reasons for not taking vaccine. The data were analyzed using statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS). Results: The survey results were analyzed on 435 HCWs. 58.4 percent of the HCWs trust the institutional protocols as the trusted source of information about vaccine. Most of the HCWs agreed that vaccines are the only protective way, and they are safe and effective. Conclusions: Sensitization and awareness programs with transparency of vaccine development processes, safety and efficacy will help remove barriers

    Density-Matrix approach to a Strongly Coupled Two-Component Bose-Einstein Condensate

The time evolution equations for average values of population and relative phase of a strongly coupled two component BEC is derived analytically. The two components are two hyper-fine states coupled by an external laser that drives fast Rabi oscillations between these states. Specifically, this derivation incorporates the two-mode model proposed in [1] for the strongly coupled hyper-fine states of Rb. The fast Rabi cycle is averaged out and rate equations are derived that represents the slow dynamics of the system. These include the collapse and revival of Rabi oscillations and their subsequent dependence on detuning and trap displacement as reported in experiments of [1]. A proposal to create stable vortices is also given.Comment: 11 Latex pages, 2 figures (Figure 3 was removed and the text chnaged accordingly
