Distribuzioni a confronto per i terremoti maggiori in Italia Centrale

Alarm systems based on a pair of short-term earthquake precursors
A statistical analysis of the foreshock-main shock correlation for a seism-ically active region in Italy is presented. It is found that the probability that a weak shock be followed within 2 days by a main shock is of the order of 2 per cent, while the probability that a main shock be preceded by a foreshock is of the order of 50 per cent. These results are quite similar to those found by L. Jones (1985) for southern California. The effectiveness of alarm systems based on a pair of short-term earth-quake precursors is then analyzed. In particular, the analysis shows under what conditions the precursor, consisting of potential foreshocks, could be combined with another precursor to provide a reasonably effective alarm system
Recurrence Time Distributions: A Discussion
Some theoretical properties implied by "Predictable Modele" are enlighted and diecussed. In particular
the aspects of interest in short-time prediction are shown.
A few italian zones are analyzed. Results obtained in previous paper are prensented: the residual
uncertainties are discussed here, especially about the "tail" values of dietributions.
Because of the poor phyical knawledge the acceptabiity of a model is rather debatable. A comparison
with maximum entropy densities estimation and with bayesian non parametric inference gives useful
suggestions about the acceptability
Predictable Models in Earthquake Engineering and in Materials Durability
The decay process of a "system" subjected to the action of an
aggressive enviranment is studied with reference to two particases:
porous materials subjected to salt decay in marine and
industriai areas and buildings in seismic areas. A service life time is defined in relation to every significant damage level of the system.
On the basis of experimental analysis and knowledge of physical
failure mechanisms, Semi-Marbv Processes are introduced to represent
decay phenomena.
In this hypothesis the suitable choice of holding time densities is
discussed.
As far as seismic building damage is concenied, the influence of a
seismic inteasity attenuation- law on the process of earthquake
occurrence is studied, with particular reference to the case of
Friuli. The role played, in the stochastic model, by geometrical
distributian of seismic sources and by building vulnerability is put forward.
The problem of mitigation risk intervention is considered and some
results of experimental analysis on porous materials are shown
