Net energy analysis of solar and conventional domestic hot water systems in Melbourne, Australia
It is commonly assumed that solar hot water systems save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Very rarely has the life-cycle energy requirements of solar hot water systems been analysed, including their embodied energy. The extent to which solar hot water systems save energy compared to conventional systems in Melbourne, Australia, is shown through a comparative net energy analysis. The solar systems provided a net energy saving compared to the conventional systems after 0.5 to 2 years, for electricity and gas systems respectively.<br /
Spin observables and the determination of the parity of in photoproduction reactions
Spin observables in the photoproduction of the are explored for
the purpose of determining the parity of the . Based on reflection
symmetry in the scattering plane, we show that certain spin observables in the
photoproduction of the can be related directly to its parity. We
also show that measurements of both the target nucleon asymmetry and the polarization may be useful in determining the parity of in
a model-independent way. Furthermore, we show that no combination of spin
observables involving only the polarization of the photon and/or nucleon in the

Crew Roles and Interactions in Scientific Space Exploration
Future piloted space exploration missions will focus more on science than engineering, a change which will challenge existing concepts for flight crew tasking and demand that participants with contrasting skills, values, and backgrounds learn to cooperate as equals. In terrestrial space flight analogs such as Desert Research And Technology Studies, engineers, pilots, and scientists can practice working together, taking advantage of the full breadth of all team members training to produce harmonious, effective missions that maximize the time and attention the crew can devote to science. This paper presents, in a format usable as a reference by participants in the field, a successfully tested crew interaction model for such missions. The model builds upon the basic framework of a scientific field expedition by adding proven concepts from aviation and human spaceflight, including expeditionary behavior and cockpit resource management, cooperative crew tasking and adaptive leadership and followership, formal techniques for radio communication, and increased attention to operational considerations. The crews of future spaceflight analogs can use this model to demonstrate effective techniques, learn from each other, develop positive working relationships, and make their expeditions more successful, even if they have limited time to train together beforehand. This model can also inform the preparation and execution of actual future spaceflights
Cross sections for the excitation of isovector charge-exchange resonances in 208Tl
The Glauber approximation for the treatment of heavy-ion scattering, has
already been shown to give reliable predictions for the reaction cross section
in the particular case of intermediate energy charge-exchange processes. In the
present work, we couple a Glauber-type model to microscopic Random Phase
Approximation calculations of the charge-exchange excitations of Pb.
The aim is to solve the longstanding question whether the very elusive
charge-exchange isovector monopole has been really identified in the past
experiments, or other multipoles were prevalent in the observed spectra.Comment: text + 4 figures; accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Reaction cross-section predictions for nucleon induced reactions
A microscopic calculation of the optical potential for nucleon-nucleus
scattering has been performed by explicitly coupling the elastic channel to all
the particle-hole (p-h) excitation states in the target and to all relevant
pickup channels. These p-h states may be regarded as doorway states through
which the flux flows to more complicated configurations, and to long-lived
compound nucleus resonances. We calculated the reaction cross sections for the
nucleon induced reactions on the targets Ca, Ni, Zr and
Sm using the QRPA description of target excitations, coupling to all
inelastic open channels, and coupling to all transfer channels corresponding to
the formation of a deuteron. The results of such calculations were compared to
predictions of a well-established optical potential and with experimental data,
reaching very good agreement. The inclusion of couplings to pickup channels
were an important contribution to the absorption. For the first time,
calculations of excitations account for all of the observed reaction
cross-sections, at least for incident energies above 10 MeV.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures. Submitted to INPC 2010 Conference Proceeding

We then model a subset of a x86-based hardware platform specifications and we prove the soundness of a realistic HSE mechanism within this model using Coq, a proof assistant system
