Response of medium early, medium late and late potatoes to water factor on wheat and rye soil complexes
dobrego i dobrego, w 11 stacjach doświadczalnych oceny odmian z lat 1996-2005.
Dla gleb kompleksów pszennych i żytnich zbudowano modele plonu ziemniaków
średnio wczesnych oraz średnio późnych i późnych w postaci funkcji regresji
(wielomian 2-go stopnia z interakcjami), w której zmiennymi objaśniającymi były
sumy opadów atmosferycznych w miesiącach maj-czerwiec i lipiec-sierpień.
średniej (143 mm), a okresu lipiec-sierpień najwyższy (220 mm).
podobnych warunkach opadowych w badanych okresach, odpowiednio: 140
i 220 mm.
pszennych. The data on the yield of potatoes grown on very good and good wheat soil
complex as well as very good and good rye soil complexes in 11 experimental stations
of varieties evaluation in 1996-2005 were used in this paper. For the wheat
and rye soil complexes models of medium early as well as and medium-late and
late potato crop were constructed as regression functions (quadratic polynomial
with interactions), in which the amount of precipitation in May-June and July-
August were independent variables. Models were studied in the range of 75-175
mm precipitation in May-June, and 90-220 mm precipitation in July-August, which
corresponds to the average ± standard deviation of these parameters.
In all cases, July-August precipitation was the factor more strongly affecting
the yield. For medium early potatoes grown on wheat soils the optimum for
obtaining the highest yields proved to be the set of factor: low May-June precipitation
(88 mm) appeared with high July-August precipitation (217 mm). The yield
achieved under these conditions amounted to 594 dt·ha-1. Medium late and late
potatoes grown on the same soil reacted similarly to water from rain - the
optimum set of factors was: May-June precipitation - 76 mm and July-August -
220 mm, giving a yield of 643 dt·ha-1.
Medium early potatoes grown on rye soils had the highest yield (481 dt·ha-1)
when the May-June precipitation was above average (143 mm) and July-August
one was high (220 mm). Medium late and late potatoes on these soils gave the
maximum yield (512 dt·ha-1) in similar conditions - 140 and 220 mm of precipitation
respectively. The lowest yields were associated with low rainfall in May-June
(75 mm) and in July-August (90 mm) for both groups of earliness and both: rye
and wheat soil complexes. By examining similar models of the percentage of
starch in potato tubers it was noted that this parameter depended mainly on precipitation
in July and August, which stronger affected on rye than wheat soil complexes
Wpływ warunków meteorologicznych na plonowanie rzepaku ozimego na Dolnym Śląsku
This work uses the results of Post-registration
Cultivar and Agricultural Experimentation conducted
in 1999–2011 in Lower Silesia, on soils
of very good and good wheat complex. The rape
vegetation season was divided into five periods
that approximately corresponded to the phenological
phases of the plant, namely: September-November
(from sowing to stemming the growing
season in the autumn), December-March (stunted
vegetation – renewal of vegetation), April (renewal
of vegetation – the beginning of flowering),
May (flowering), June (end of flowering – technical
maturity). In the constructed regression model
the following factors were included: the average
air temperature and total precipitation in the periods,
the content of phosphorus, potassium and pH
of soil and fertilization with nitrogen, phosphorus
and potassium. Comparing the impact of meteorological
conditions in different growing periods of
winter rape, it was found that the weakest impact
on the yield had temperature and precipitation
from September to November. During this period,
the optimum for yield are the following conditions:
average temperature 10.4°C and precipitation
total 145 mm. The winter period (December-
March) has the strongest impact on the yield
of rape. The yield is conspicuously higher with
lower average air temperatures. Optimal for yield
is precipitation of 171 mm (highest tested) and
a relatively low average air temperature (–0.9°C).
In April, the decisive factor is rainfall. Its lower
values (12 mm) favour higher yield. The optimum
weather in this period is 12 mm precipitation and
average temperature of 9.1°C. Rape yield increases
with increasing average air temperature in May
and is highest when its value is 15°C and rainfall
in this month is above average (73 mm). The
weather in June has less impact on rape crop than
in the three previous periods. The optimal layout
is: 27 mm precipitation and temperature 16°C,
these values being the smallest tested.W pracy wykorzystano wyniki Porejestrowego
Doświadczalnictwa Odmianowego i Rolniczego
(dawniej Porejestrowego Doświadczalnictwa
Odmianowego) prowadzonego w latach
1999–2011 na Dolnym Śląsku na glebach kompleksów
pszennego bardzo dobrego i pszennego
dobrego. Czas wegetacji rzepaku podzielono na
pięć okresów odpowiadających w przybliżeniu
fazom fenologicznym tej rośliny, mianowicie:
wrzesień-listopad (od siewu do zahamowania
wegetacji jesienią), grudzień-marzec (zahamowanie
wegetacji – wznowienie wegetacji), kwiecień
(wznowienie wegetacji – początek kwitnienia),
maj (kwitnienie), czerwiec (koniec kwitnienia
– dojrzałość techniczna). W zbudowanym modelu
regresji uwzględniono następujące czynniki:
średnią temperaturę powietrza i sumę opadów
w ww. okresach, zawartość fosforu, potasu i pH
gleby oraz nawożenie azotem, fosforem i potasem.
Uzyskaną funkcję badano w przedziale
średnia ± odchylenie standardowe dla każdego
czynnika.
temperatura – 10,4°C i suma opadów – 145 mm.
Okres zimowy (grudzień-marzec) ma zaś najsilniejszy
wpływ na plonowanie rzepaku. Plon jest
zdecydowanie większy przy niższych średnich
wartościach temperatury powietrza. Optymalny
dla plonu jest opad wynoszący 171 mm (największy
badany) i stosunkowo niska średnia wartość
temperatury powietrza (–0,9°C). W kwietniu
decydującym czynnikiem jest opad. Większemu
plonowaniu sprzyjają jego mniejsze wartości
(12 mm). Optymalne warunki pogodowe w tym
okresie to 12 mm opadu i średnia temperatura
9,1°C. Plon rzepaku wzrasta wraz z rosnącą średnią
temperaturą powietrza w maju i jest największy,
gdy jej wartość wynosi 15°C, a opady w tym
miesiącu są powyżej średniej (73 mm). Przebieg
Z uzyskanego modelu wynika ponadto,
N, P i K
Comparison of water needs of sugar beet determined by precipitation total and number of days with rainfall
W przypadku liczby dni z opadem optymalne wartości to - 35 dni w okresie IV-VI (wartość niższa od średniej) i 50 dni w okresie VII-IX (wartość bliska maksymalnej badanej). Optymalna z punktu widzenia tego parametru plonu liczba dni z opadem w okresie IV-VI to 46 dni (maksymalna badana) i w okresie VII-IX - 33 dni (minimalna badana). The data on sugar beet yield were taken from Stations of Cultivar Assessment
situated in south-west Poland. Using the method of multiple regression with
interactions, models of root and leaf yield and sugar content percentage were constructed,
where the independent variables were precipitation total in the periods
April-June and July-September or the number of days with rainfall in the stated
periods. The optimum for obtaining highest yields of beetroots proved to be the set
of factors: rainfall April-June 222 mm (the highest studied) and rainfall July-
September 260 mm (a bit higher than average). As regards the number of days
with rainfall, the optimum values were 35 days in the period IV-VI (values lower
than average) and 50 days in VII-IX (value close to the maximal studied). The
yield of roots was lowest with the lowest precipitation totals in both the periods
(122 and 152 mm), and also when the highest number of days with rainfall in the
spring season (46) was accompanied by low number of days with rainfall in the
summer period (33).
For the yield of leaves the best set of factors proved to be the maximum
precipitation totals studied, both those of the spring and summer period (222 and
322 mm, respectively) and the maximum number of days with rainfall in both the
periods (46 and 55). The least favorable sets, both for the model with precipitation
total and the one with number of days with rainfall, proved to be the highest values
of the independent variables in the period IV-VI (222 mm and 46 days, respectively),
and the lowest (122 mm and 33 days, respectively) in the period VII-IX.
Sugar content in sugar beetroots was highest with low (149 mm) spring
precipitation and minimum summer precipitation (152 mm). The optimum, from
the point of view of that parameter, number of days with rainfall in IV-VI was 46
days (maximal studied) and in VII-IX – 33 days (minimal studied). However, sugar
content was smallest with lowest precipitation of the spring period and highest of
the summer period, and maximum number of days with rainfall in both the periods

pszennego bardzo dobrego, pszennego dobrego i żytniego bardzo dobrego. Utworzono modele
regresji dla zawartości tłuszczu surowego i białka ogólnego w nasionach rzepaku ozimego, gdzie
badanymi czynnikami były: suma opadów i średnia temperatura powietrza w okresach: wrzesieńlistopad
zawartość tłuszczu surowego i białka ogólnego w nasionach rzepaku ozimego mają warunki meteorologiczne
w okresach grudzień-marzec i maj.
This work uses the results of Post-registration Cultivar and Agricultural Experimentation
conducted in 2003–2011 in Lower Silesia, on soils of very good and good wheat complex as well
as very good rye complex. Regression models were created for crude fat and total protein contents in
the seed of oilseed rape. The following factors were included: the average air temperature and total
precipitation in the periods: September-November (from sowing to end of vegetation in the autumn),
December-March (stopped vegetation – renewal of vegetation), April (renewal of vegetation –
beginning of flowering), May (flowering), June (end of flowering – technical maturity), the content of
phosphorus, potassium and pH of soil, and fertilisation with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The
models show that the meteorological conditions from December to March and in May have the strongest
influence on the content of crude fat and total protein in seeds of oilseed rape. Optimal for fat content
is high rainfall in the periods of December-March, April and May, and the accompanying higher
temperatures. In these periods a higher protein content is obtained in lower rainfall and lower temperature
conditions. In the period from the end of flowering to technical maturity, the highest fat content is
noted at relatively low rainfall – 25 mm and a higher temperature of 18.8°C. In this period the protein
content is influenced only by the temperature, in this case, negatively
Revew of regionalization of sprinkler irrigation requirements of crops in Poland
The relationship between the yield level of main crops in varietal tests carried out in the period 1951-1980 (in 90 crop variety testing stations) and the magnitude and distribution of ten-day rainfalls in the growing season of this period (160 ombrometric stations) was analyzed by the authors.
On this basis many-year mean, seasonal and ten-day rainfalls allowing to obtain at least the following yields: 75 t of fodder beets, 45 t of sugar beets, 35 t of late potatoes, 25 t of early potatoes, 50 t of clover and alfalfa M 2.5 t of pea and beans and 4 t of cereal grain from hectare, have been determined, deficiency or excess of ten-day rainfalls for particular crops, soils and stations were calculated as difference between the regional rainfall needs and actual rainfalls for many-year periods and dry years.
The irrigation requirements have been determined for particular regions, soils and dry years.
Exemplary maps for selected root, fodder and cereal crops are attached by the authors for comparing the values and spatial ranges of rainfall deficiencies on light and medium-heavy soils
Ultrasonographic anatomy of the bovine eye
The purposes of the study were to describe the ultrasonographic appearance and measurements of the normal bovine eye, to compare the measurements to those reported previously for cadaveric eyes and to describe differences between ocular dimensions of Holstein Friesian and Jersey cattle. Sixty transpalpebral ocular ultrasonographic examinations were performed on 30 adult Holstein Friesian cows, and 16 examinations were performed on 8 adult Jersey cows. Transpalpebral ultrasonographic images were obtained with a 10 MHz linear transducer in both horizontal and vertical imaging planes. The ultrasonographic appearance of structures within the bovine eye is similar to that in other species, although the ciliary artery was frequently identified, appearing as a 0.33 +/- 0.04 cm diameter hypoechoic area. The axial length of the globe was significantly greater in Holstein Friesian cattle (3.46 +/- 0.09 cm) compared with Jersey cattle (3.27 +/- 0.19 cm; P=0.001), although the vitreous depth was smaller in Holstein Friesian cattle (1.46 +/- 0.09 cm) (P=0.0009). The anterioposterior depth of the lens was significantly greater in Jersey cattle (1.92 +/- 0.11 cm) and the cornea was thinner in Jersey cattle (0.17 +/- 0.02 cm). The appearance and ocular distances for live animals were similar to those reported previously for cadaveric specimens. The knowledge of normal ocular dimensions facilitates the use of ultrasonography in the evaluation of ocular disease in cattle
