A flight investigation of simulated data-link communications during single-pilot IFR flight. Volume 2: Flight evaluations

Key problems in single pilot instrument flight operations are in the management of flight data and the processing of cockpit information during conditions of heavy workload. A flight data console was developed to allow simulation of a digital data link to replace the current voice communications stem used in air traffic control. This is a human factors evaluation of a data link communications system to determine how such a system might reduce cockpit workload, improve flight proficiency, and be accepted by general aviation pilots. The need for a voice channel as backup to a digital link is examined. The evaluations cover both airport terminal area operations and full mission instrument flight. Results show that general aviation pilots operate well with a digital data link communications system. The findings indicate that a data link system for pilot/ATC communications, with a backup voice channel, is well accepted by general aviation pilots and is considered to be safer, more efficient, and result in less workload than the current voice system

Gradient Estimates And The Fundamental Solution For Higher-Order Elliptic Systems With Lower-Order Terms

Here we generalize the higher-order divergence-form elliptic differential equations studied by Barton in [4] by the inclusion of certain lower-order terms. The methods used here compare to those used in [4], with the addition of further Sobolev-type estimates to handle included lower-order terms. In section 3 we derive a Caccioppoli inequality in which we bound the L2 norm of the mth order gradient, in terms of the L2 norm of the solution. In section 5 we adapt some of the ideas from [9] to derive Lp bounds on gradients of solutions as a substitute for a reverse Holder inequality. Finally in section 4 we study the fundamental solution of the operator L. The study determined how a digital communications system reduces cockpit workload, improve, flight proficiency, and is acceptable to general aviation pilots. The Ethical Relationship Between School Violence and Teacher Morale

This study explores how negative school climate factors, such as classroom violence, can influence a teacher’s pedagogical approach to classroom learning and relationships with students using a transformative lens to improve student engagement and pedagogical approaches after such tragedies occur. The Burke-Litwin (2010) model of organizational climate is used as a framework to understand how a school\u27s organizational climate contributes to a positive learning culture for teachers, post-trauma, with the goal of heightening teachers’ ability to continue to teach and to maintain student engagement post-violence. Major conclusions show that the underlying school climate plays a critical role in how a teacher recovers after witnessing a school shooting. In the recovery of post-violent school events, school cultures have a major impact on teacher morale, relationships between teachers and students, absenteeism (student and teacher), school discipline and, grades and test scores. A school’s organizational climate essentially contributes to teachers’ abilities to engage students actively in the classroom and to continue to be involved in motivational teaching and new pedagogical approaches despite witnessing violence
