This literary fantasy novel is presented as the manuscript of a writer under the pseudonym of “Noisette,” who possesses the final writings of the revolutionary Cazimir Pazikov, a historical figure in the book’s world of whom little is known. In his journal entries, Cazimir Pazikov details the final days of his life. After accidentally murdering his lover, Varina, Cazimir buries her at a crossroads as part of a ritual to resurrect her. To complete the ritual, Cazimir must journey around his native Alban Province (a region of the wartorn Kingdom of Paradigm modeled off 19th century America with European influences) in search of physical artifacts that will serve as proof of his and Varina’s love. During his journey he contends with both human and supernatural obstacles, as well as his own innate flaws. In the end he makes the ultimate sacrifice to undo his ultimate sin and return Varina to life. Ultraviolet Light Emitting Diode Use in Advanced Oxidation Processes

Cleanup from a hazardous chemical release can result in large volumes of water containing hazardous materials, such as organophosphates. Unfortunately, this water cannot be treated in a municipal wastewater treatment plant without adversely affecting the performance of the plant. A known method for pretreating this water to prepare it for processing in a traditional treatment plant includes the addition of hydrogen peroxide, followed by ultraviolet (UV) light exposure to form reactive hydroxyl radicals which oxidize the chemical. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are explored as a UV source as they are durable; compact; can be powered by low voltage, direct current from solar cells or batteries; and do not contain other hazardous materials, making them useful in a tactical environment. This research evaluated the operating mode (continuous or pulsed current) of 240 nanometer UV LEDs for application in such an advanced oxidation process. The experimental results demonstrated the production of hydroxyl radicals from hydrogen peroxide from both continuously driven and pulsed UV LEDs. However, continuously driven UV LEDs were shown to be more effective than pulsed in this application

Path Constitution in Family Business Succession: Evidence from A Longitudinal Case Study

Family businesses balance profit with family, employee, and consumer needs and touch almost every facet of the private and public sectors. At the same time, family businesses must manage the challenging processes attributed to the critical, never-ending succession task. Against that backdrop, we aim to explore how family businesses thrive through multiple successions, focused on how critical path junctures work to create succession trajectories over time. Based on close collaboration with Kinsmith Finance, we researched how family businesses can secure successful successions and increased business longevity across several generations through combinations of path creation episodes adapted to new, emerging circumstances and path dependence episodes that reinforce previous decisions. Hence, designed as a longitudinal case study, we investigated Kinsmith Finance’s three successions as unique cases displaying combinations of path creation and path dependence episodes. As a result, this dissertation contributes to the literature by adapting the theory of path constitution to the context of family business succession. We also provide empirical insights into 79 years of evolution in a family business. Finally, we offer practical insights on path constitution in the context of family business succession
