    Quality education desperately needs effective leadership. One of the effective school principals has the characteristic of being able to provide coaching to all human resources in their educational institutions. A strategy as a coach (trainer) is absolutely necessary for educational institutions today because the challenges of change are getting bigger. Therefore, this research is very necessary to provide new insights that can be used to develop educational institutions through the role of the principal as a trainer. The approach or method through field research will provide clear results on the role of the principal as a leader and also as a trainer. The principal of SMAN 1 Srengat plays his role as a trainer by applying coaching principles into several strategies, namely: first, through a humanist approach. Second, developing creative thinking processes by provoking creative thinking through exploratory questions. Third, developing potential is done by providing training (workshops and superleader), optimal potential empowerment, and habitual deeds. Fourth, raising awareness is done by providing motivation
