Public-sector Digitization: An Analytical Cost-effective Framework

It is an enduring request to reform and advance the quality of governmental systems according to the needs of society and economy. Some of the most critical tools for this purpose are the information and communication technologies (ICT). Electronic government, among other things, has been documented to increase efficiency of government operations and to provide better and more customized services to citizens and businesses. However, a review of the recent literature has uncovered both an inability to quantify the value creation of ICT implementation in public domains and a lack of an analytical cost-effectiveness framework to evaluate the monetary impacts of digitization on governance structures. This study offers an analytical method to quantify the gains from public services’ digitization and fo-cuses on electronic justice (e-justice), a sector with huge challenges ahead for public governance. We provide specific cashable financial gains for administrations that might originate from the digitization of judi-cial systems. The proposed method can make up a framework for setting digital priorities and helping governments seize the opportunities that digitization offers

Internet presents a new business environment with great potential for marketers. Virtual retailing / e-shops, in particular, own the unique property of combining advertising practices and on-line sales functionality. In that context, the consumer buying process may be completed from start to end, from the need recognition stage, initiated by advertising, to the purchase decision stage, in an easy and integrated way. Thus, the role of interactive advertisement in this environment is crucial. In this paper, we examine the characteristics and potential of interactive advertisement in virtual retailing and propose a multidimensional approach to product advertisement in the virtual store, taking into account the consumer, retailer and supplier perspective

Information systems management in Greece: issues and perceptions

    No full text
The changing nature of information systems (IS) management in Greece is examined, based on a survey of IS managers from leading Greek companies. The managers' views and perceptions regarding the key issues facing the IS function are discussed from the perspective of the needs and objectives of the business. The findings suggest that the main preoccupation of Greek IS managers is with strategic management issues, with somewhat less interest in people management and systems development issues, and less interest still in end user computing and technology management. With a few exceptions, these findings are broadly similar to those from the UK a few years earlier. The paper discusses the implications of the findings in the light of current US and Western European thinking
