Nonequilibrium Reweighting on the Driven Diffusive Lattice Gas
The nonequilibrium reweighting technique, which was recently developed by the
present authors, is used for the study of the nonequilibrium steady states. The
renewed formulation of the nonequlibrium reweighting enables us to use the very
efficient multi-spin coding. We apply the nonequilibrium reweighting to the
driven diffusive lattice gas model. Combining with the dynamical finite-size
scaling theory, we estimate the critical temperature Tc and the dynamical
exponent z. We also argue that this technique has an interesting feature that
enables explicit calculation of derivatives of thermodynamic quantities without

Electromagnetic Radiation Hardness of Diamond Detectors
The behavior of artificially grown CVD diamond films under intense
electromagnetic radiation has been studied. The properties of irradiated
diamond samples have been investigated using the method of thermally stimulated
current and by studying their charge collection properties. Diamonds have been
found to remain unaffected after doses of 6.8 MGy of 10 keV photons and 10 MGy
of MeV-range photons. This observation makes diamond an attractive detector
material for a calorimeter in the very forward region of the proposed TESLA

Multilevel ensemble transform particle filtering
This paper extends the multilevel Monte Carlo variance reduction technique to nonlinear filtering. In particular, multilevel Monte Carlo is applied to a certain variant of the particle filter, the ensemble transform particle filter (EPTF). A key aspect is the use of optimal transport methods to re-establish correlation between coarse and fine ensembles after resampling; this controls the variance of the estimator. Numerical examples present a proof of concept of the effectiveness of the proposed method, demonstrating significant computational cost reductions (relative to the single-level ETPF counterpart) in the propagation of ensembles
Benchmark problems for continuum radiative transfer. High optical depths, anisotropic scattering, and polarisation
Solving the continuum radiative transfer equation in high opacity media
requires sophisticated numerical tools. In order to test the reliability of
such tools, we present a benchmark of radiative transfer codes in a 2D disc
configuration. We test the accuracy of seven independently developed radiative
transfer codes by comparing the temperature structures, spectral energy
distributions, scattered light images, and linear polarisation maps that each
model predicts for a variety of disc opacities and viewing angles. The test
cases have been chosen to be numerically challenging, with midplane optical
depths up 10^6, a sharp density transition at the inner edge and complex
scattering matrices. We also review recent progress in the implementation of
the Monte Carlo method that allow an efficient solution to these kinds of
problems and discuss the advantages and limitations of Monte Carlo codes
compared to those of discrete ordinate codes. For each of the test cases, the
predicted results from the radiative transfer codes are within good agreement.
The results indicate that these codes can be confidently used to interpret

Adaptive Importance Sampling in General Mixture Classes
In this paper, we propose an adaptive algorithm that iteratively updates both
the weights and component parameters of a mixture importance sampling density
so as to optimise the importance sampling performances, as measured by an
entropy criterion. The method is shown to be applicable to a wide class of
importance sampling densities, which includes in particular mixtures of
multivariate Student t distributions. The performances of the proposed scheme
are studied on both artificial and real examples, highlighting in particular
the benefit of a novel Rao-Blackwellisation device which can be easily

Association between physical activity, weight loss, anxiety, and lumbopelvic pain in postpartum women
Objective Lumbopelvic pain (LBPP) affects 45% to 81% of pregnant women, and 25% to 43% of these women report persistent LBPP beyond 3 months after giving birth. The objective of this study was to investigate the association of physical activity, weight status, anxiety, and evolution of LBPP symptoms in postpartum women. Methods This was a prospective observational cohort study with 3 time-point assessments: baseline (T0), 3 months (T3), and 6 months (T6). Women with persistent LBPP 3 to 12 months after delivery were recruited. At each time point, pain disability was assessed with the Pelvic Girdle Questionnaire and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), physical activity with Fitbit Flex monitors, and anxiety with the French-Canadian version of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Weight was recorded using a standardized method. Pain intensity (numerical rating scale, 0-100) and frequency were assessed using a standardized text message on a weekly basis throughout the study. Results Thirty-two women were included (time postpartum: 6.6 ± 2.0 months; maternal age: 28.3 ± 3.8 years; body weight: 72.9 ± 19.1 kg), and 27 completed the T6 follow-up. Disability, pain intensity, and pain frequency improved at T6 (P < .001). Participants lost a mean of 1.9 ± 4.5 kg at T6, and this weight loss was correlated with reduction in LBPP intensity (r = 0.479, P = .011) and LBPP frequency (r = 0.386, P = .047), Pelvic Girdle Questionnaire score (r = 0.554, P = .003), and ODI score (r = 0.494, P = .009). Improvement in ODI score at T6 was correlated with the number of inactive minutes at T3 (r = −0.453, P = .026) and T6 (r = −0.457, P = .019), and with daily steps at T6 (r = 0.512, P = .006). Conclusion Weight loss is associated with positive LBPP symptom evolution beyond 3 months postpartum, and physical activity is associated with reduction in pain disability
Chiropractic pediatric patient management and interdisciplinary collaboration: A descriptive cross-sectional study of chiropractors in Quebec
Background:
Worldwide, many patients, including minors, seek chiropractic care. The purpose of this study was to investigate the practice characteristics of chiropractors who treat pediatric patients in Quebec, Canada.
Methods:
We conducted a web-based cross-sectional survey of all licensed chiropractors working in Quebec (Canada). Data were collected using an adapted questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were produced for all the variables collected.
Results:
Among our 245 participants (response rate: 21%), 63% were women, and half defined themselves as general musculoskeletal (MSK) health care practitioners. Nearly all participants reported seeing 0–5 new pediatric patients/week, and the most common pediatric age group was 6–12 years old (57%). Pediatric patients were most commonly referred by family members and “word of mouth”. The respondents most frequently indicated that they strongly agreed with statements affirming their confidence in their own diagnostic capacities regarding MSK disorders with respect to all age groups as well as non-MSK disorders with regard to young teens. They reported a moderate level of agreement with similar statements concerning the diagnosis of non-MSK disorders in newborns, preschoolers, and children. Chiropractors rarely referred their pediatric patients to a nurse/family doctor or a pediatrician. When presented with potential pediatric red flags, the respondents commonly indicated that they would refer the patient to a physician in an emergency situation or for comanagement.
Conclusion:
Chiropractors in Quebec are confident in their diagnoses of pediatric MSK conditions and refer patients to physicians in the rare event of a worrisome presentation. However, some chiropractors may have expectations that are unsupported by evidence regarding the diagnosis and management of non-MSK complaints
