    Get PDF
The main assumption of this article is that the essence of the sixty-five year-long Korean question is to replace the Korean Armistice Agreement with a new security order, often referred to as a Korean Peninsula Peace Regime. As such, this article explores elements considerable for a stable order on the Korean Peninsula. First, this article reviews relevant literature on the concept of order in the discipline of international relations mainly from Henry Kissinger. Second, this article analyzes the elements of the Armistice Agreement as a living precedent. Furthermore, this article offers a preliminarily study of a post-war order cases such as 2+4 Treaty and Austrian State Treaty. In conclusion this article experimentally proposes an outline of elements of a new security order on the Korean Peninsula

Department of Mechanical EngineeringSmall fixed-wing UAVs are increasingly attracting attention due to many applications in both military operations such as surveillance, and civilian domains such as powerline patrol and aerial photography. Their popularity growth has reduced the weight and size of small fixed-wing UAVs. They are vulnerable to external disturbances, such as wind due to their reduced size and weight. Disturbance has adverse effects on small fixed-wing UAVs, as it lowers the stability and performance of the control system during the operation. The disturbance includes modeling errors caused by the uncertainty of the system parameters as well as the wind from the external environment. The disturbance effects acting on small fixed-wing UAVs must be considered explicitly and eliminated eventually. In this regard, various control techniques for compensating the disturbance have been actively studied in control fields. Representative controller design techniques for compensating the disturbance include robust control (RC), sliding mode control (SMC) and adaptive control (AC), and disturbance observer-based control (DOBC). Most of the control techniques cause a slow response in attenuating disturbance effects since feedback control is performed based on tracking errors. Therefore, there is a need to compensate directly for disturbance through feedforward control. The disturbance observer-based control scheme directly estimates the uncertainty of the system, external disturbance, and directly compensates the estimated disturbance through the feedforward. This paper proposes a nonlinear disturbance observer-based path following controller for a small fixed-wing UAV affected by disturbance such as wind. We used a nonlinear disturbance observer-based control (NDOBC) method for precise path following for a small fixed-wing UAV along with the Lyapunov guidance vector field (LGVF) technique. The disturbance is estimated by a nonlinear disturbance observer, and then it is incorporated into the LGVF path following controller to compensate disturbance effects. The numerical simulation is first carried out through the MATLAB Simulink environment. Software in the loop simulation (SITL) is carried out to verify its performance. Outdoor flight experiments are performed to demonstrate its performance in a real-world environment.ope

Ubiquitous Health Management System with Watch-Type Monitoring Device for Dementia Patients

    Get PDF
For patients who have a senile mental disorder such as dementia, the quantity of exercise and amount of sunlight are an important clue for doses and treatment. Therefore, monitoring daily health information is necessary for patients’ safety and health. A portable and wearable sensor device and server configuration for monitoring data are needed to provide these services for patients. A watch-type device (smart watch) that patients wear and a server system are developed in this paper. The smart watch developed includes a GPS, accelerometer, and illumination sensor, and can obtain real time health information by measuring the position of patients, quantity of exercise, and amount of sunlight. The server system includes the sensor data analysis algorithm and web server used by the doctor and protector to monitor the sensor data acquired from the smart watch. The proposed data analysis algorithm acquires the exercise information and detects the step count in patients’ motion acquired from the acceleration sensor and verifies the three cases of fast pace, slow pace, and walking pace, showing 96% of the experimental results. If developed and the u-Healthcare System for dementia patients is applied, higher quality medical services can be provided to patients

Ginseng and Its Active Components Ginsenosides Inhibit Adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 Cells by Regulating MMP-2 and MMP-9

The growth and development of adipose tissue are believed to require adipogenesis, angiogenesis, and extracellular matrix remodeling. As our previous study revealed that ginseng reduces adipose tissue mass in part by decreasing matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity in obese mice, we hypothesized that adipogenesis can be inhibited by ginseng and its active components ginsenosides (GSs). Treatment of 3T3-L1 adipocytes with Korean red ginseng extract (GE) inhibited lipid accumulation and the expression of adipocyte-specific genes (PPARγ, C/EBPα, aP2, and leptin). GE decreased both the mRNA levels and activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in 3T3-L1 cells. These effects were further inhibited by total GSs (TGSs) and individual GSs. TGSs and individual GSs also significantly decreased MMP-2 and MMP-9 reporter gene activities in the presence of phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA), the MMP inducer. Among the GSs, Rb1 most effectively inhibited MMP activity. In addition, PMA treatment attenuated the inhibitory actions of GE and GSs on adipogenesis. Moreover, GE and GSs reduced the expression of NF-κB and AP-1, the transcription factors of MMP-2 and MMP-9. These results demonstrate that ginseng, in particular GSs, effectively inhibits adipogenesis and that this process may be mediated in part through the suppression of MMP-2 and MMP-9. Thus, ginseng and GSs likely have therapeutic potential for controlling adipogenesis

Deep Imbalanced Time-series Forecasting via Local Discrepancy Density

Time-series forecasting models often encounter abrupt changes in a given period of time which generally occur due to unexpected or unknown events. Despite their scarce occurrences in the training set, abrupt changes incur loss that significantly contributes to the total loss. Therefore, they act as noisy training samples and prevent the model from learning generalizable patterns, namely the normal states. Based on our findings, we propose a reweighting framework that down-weights the losses incurred by abrupt changes and up-weights those by normal states. For the reweighting framework, we first define a measurement termed Local Discrepancy (LD) which measures the degree of abruptness of a change in a given period of time. Since a training set is mostly composed of normal states, we then consider how frequently the temporal changes appear in the training set based on LD. Our reweighting framework is applicable to existing time-series forecasting models regardless of the architectures. Through extensive experiments on 12 time-series forecasting models over eight datasets with various in-output sequence lengths, we demonstrate that applying our reweighting framework reduces MSE by 10.1% on average and by up to 18.6% in the state-of-the-art model.Comment: Accepted at European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML/PKDD) 202
