Analysis and Application of Min-Cost Transition Systems to Business Process Management

    Get PDF
To improve the efficiency of conformance checking in process mining, new alignment approaches are presented between event logs and process models based on the min-cost transition systems of Petri nets. An algorithm is presented to obtain the transition system with the minimum cost based on the product of the event net and process net. The min-cost transition system is a directed acyclic graph, where the paths from the initial node to the final node include all optimal alignments between the trace and the process model based on the given cost function. Two algorithms are proposed to calculate an optimal alignment and all optimal alignments, respectively. All algorithms are implemented in ProM platform. After a series of the simulation experiments, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approaches are illustrated

Investigation of a Novel 3D Non-Destructive Evaluation for Corrosion Process in Reinforced Concrete

X-ray computed microtomography (X-ray μCT) method is proposed to trace the corrosion features of steel bar in cementitious materials. Three-dimensional corrosion morphology (including morphology of steel corrosion, corrosion products and cracks formation) are characterized and reconstructed. Experimental results demonstrate that X-ray μCT can track time-dependent development of corrosion products and the subsequent initiation and propagation of corrosion-induced cracks. In addition, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) are used to morphologically and chemically analyze the corrosion result. The microscopic analysis result is found to be in a very good agreement with the image analysis measured by X-ray μCT. Furthermore, the total corrosion ratio of steel, obtained by the X-ray μCT, is calculated to be in a good correlation with the data measured by Faraday\u27s law as well as gravimetric method

Movable Fiber-Integrated Hybrid Plasmonic Waveguide on Metal Film

A waveguide structure consisting of a tapered nanofiber on a metal film is proposed and analyzed to support highly localized hybrid plasmonic modes. The hybrid plasmonic mode can be efficiently excited through the in-line tapered fiber based on adiabatic conversion and collected by the same fiber, which is very convenient in the experiment. Due to the ultrasmall mode area of plasmonic mode, the local electromagnetic field is greatly enhanced in this movable waveguide, which is potential for enhanced coherence light emitter interactions, such as waveguide quantum electrodynamics, single emitter spectrum and nonlinear optics

Comparison between Windowed FFT and Hilbert-Huang Transform for Analyzing Time Series with Poissonian Fluctuations: A Case Study

    Get PDF
Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is a novel data analysis technique for nonlinear and non-stationary data. We present a time-frequency analysis of both simulated light curves and an X-ray burst from the X-ray burster 4U 1702-429 with both the HHT and the Windowed Fast Fourier Transform (WFFT) methods. Our results show that the HHT method has failed in all cases for light curves with Poissonian fluctuations which are typical for all photon counting instruments used in astronomy, whereas the WFFT method can sensitively detect the periodic signals in the presence of Poissonian fluctuations; the only drawback of the WFFT method is that it cannot detect sharp frequency variations accurately.Comment: 10 pages, 12 figure

A Transmissive X-ray Polarimeter Design For Hard X-ray Focusing Telescopes

The X-ray Timing and Polarization (XTP) is a mission concept for a future space borne X-ray observatory and is currently selected for early phase study. We present a new design of X-ray polarimeter based on the time projection gas chamber. The polarimeter, placed above the focal plane, has an additional rear window that allows hard X-rays to penetrate (a transmission of nearly 80% at 6 keV) through it and reach the detector on the focal plane. Such a design is to compensate the low detection efficiency of gas detectors, at a low cost of sensitivity, and can maximize the science return of multilayer hard X-ray telescopes without the risk of moving focal plane instruments. The sensitivity in terms of minimum detectable polarization, based on current instrument configuration, is expected to be 3% for a 1mCrab source given an observing time of 10^5 s. We present preliminary test results, including photoelectron tracks and modulation curves, using a test chamber and polarized X-ray sources in the lab

High-Q exterior whispering gallery modes in a metal-coated microresonator

We propose a kind of plasmonic whispering gallery modes highly localized on the exterior surface of a metal-coated microresonator. This exterior (EX) surface mode possesses high quality factors at room temperature, and can be efficiently excited by a tapered fiber. The EX mode can couple to an interior (IN) mode and this coupling produces a strong anti-crossing behavior, which not only allows conversion of IN to EX modes, but also forms a long-lived anti-symmetric mode. As a potential application, the EX mode could be used for a biosensor with a sensitivity high up to 500 nm per refraction index unit, a large figure of merit, and a wide detection range
