In recent years, e-collaboration systems have emerged as an essential enabler of communication and collaboration between enterprises. Current trends in the area of e-collaboration emphasize the importance of effective collaborative knowledge management support in e-collaboration systems. Our research aims at proposing an intelligent infrastructure for the reconciliation of knowledge management and e-collaboration systems. The objective of the paper is to introduce a conceptual framework for designing and building the new infrastructure that supports specific characteristics of collaborative knowledge management in e-collaboration systems. The paper articulates how this framework enables efficient knowledge exploration and exploitation, before concluding with implications and recommendations for future developments in this area

Evaluation of awake prone positioning effectiveness in moderate to severe COVID-19

    Get PDF
Evidence mainly from high income countries suggests that lying in the prone position may be beneficial in patients with COVID-19 even if they are not receiving invasive ventilation. Studies indicate that increased duration of prone position may be associated with improved outcomes, but achieving this requires additional staff time and resources. Our study aims to support prolonged (≥ 8hours/day) awake prone positioning in patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 disease in Vietnam. We use a specialist team to support prone positioning of patients and wearable devices to assist monitoring vital signs and prone position and an electronic data registry to capture routine clinical data

Wearable devices for remote monitoring of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in Vietnam

Patients with severe COVID-19 disease require monitoring with pulse oximetry as a minimal requirement. In many low- and middle- income countries, this has been challenging due to lack of staff and equipment. Wearable pulse oximeters potentially offer an attractive means to address this need, due to their low cost, battery operability and capacity for remote monitoring. Between July and October 2021, Ho Chi Minh City experienced its first major wave of SARS-CoV-2 infection, leading to an unprecedented demand for monitoring in hospitalized patients. We assess the feasibility of a continuous remote monitoring system for patients with COVID-19 under these circumstances as we implemented 2 different systems using wearable pulse oximeter devices in a stepwise manner across 4 departments

Ventilator-associated respiratory infection in a resource-restricted setting: impact and etiology.

BACKGROUND: Ventilator-associated respiratory infection (VARI) is a significant problem in resource-restricted intensive care units (ICUs), but differences in casemix and etiology means VARI in resource-restricted ICUs may be different from that found in resource-rich units. Data from these settings are vital to plan preventative interventions and assess their cost-effectiveness, but few are available. METHODS: We conducted a prospective observational study in four Vietnamese ICUs to assess the incidence and impact of VARI. Patients ≥ 16 years old and expected to be mechanically ventilated > 48 h were enrolled in the study and followed daily for 28 days following ICU admission. RESULTS: Four hundred fifty eligible patients were enrolled over 24 months, and after exclusions, 374 patients' data were analyzed. A total of 92/374 cases of VARI (21.7/1000 ventilator days) were diagnosed; 37 (9.9%) of these met ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) criteria (8.7/1000 ventilator days). Patients with any VARI, VAP, or VARI without VAP experienced increased hospital and ICU stay, ICU cost, and antibiotic use (p < 0.01 for all). This was also true for all VARI (p < 0.01 for all) with/without tetanus. There was no increased risk of in-hospital death in patients with VARI compared to those without (VAP HR 1.58, 95% CI 0.75-3.33, p = 0.23; VARI without VAP HR 0.40, 95% CI 0.14-1.17, p = 0.09). In patients with positive endotracheal aspirate cultures, most VARI was caused by Gram-negative organisms; the most frequent were Acinetobacter baumannii (32/73, 43.8%) Klebsiella pneumoniae (26/73, 35.6%), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (24/73, 32.9%). 40/68 (58.8%) patients with positive cultures for these had carbapenem-resistant isolates. Patients with carbapenem-resistant VARI had significantly greater ICU costs than patients with carbapenem-susceptible isolates (6053 USD (IQR 3806-7824) vs 3131 USD (IQR 2108-7551), p = 0.04) and after correction for adequacy of initial antibiotics and APACHE II score, showed a trend towards increased risk of in-hospital death (HR 2.82, 95% CI 0.75-6.75, p = 0.15). CONCLUSIONS: VARI in a resource-restricted setting has limited impact on mortality, but shows significant association with increased patient costs, length of stay, and antibiotic use, particularly when caused by carbapenem-resistant bacteria. Evidence-based interventions to reduce VARI in these settings are urgently needed

Thesaurus-based query and document expansion in conceptual indexing with UMLS

International audienceUMLS is known as largest thesaurus in biomedical domain constructed by Library National of Medicine. In this paper, we aim to evaluate effect of the exploration of UMLS knowledge in medical domain information retrieval by mapping large text of collection ImageCLEFMed to UMLS concepts, and expanding queries and documents automatically base on semantic relations in the UMLS hierarchy. We get the encouraging result with the best enhancement on MAP of 66% compared to text only retrieval, and 34% compared to conceptual indexing baseline

With the availability of external resources to documents, the Information Retrieval Systems evolve. These resources provide not only information on the terms and concepts for a more precise indexing, but also the semantic relations between these terms or concepts. Our thesis work lies in the use of external resources in information retrieval. We study firstly the indexing conceptual in comparison with term-based indexing. The problem arrise when the documents and the query don't share the same concepts, but the concepts of the documents are semantically related with the concepts of the query. We propose to take into account these semantic relationships between concepts by a information retrieval model which is based on a Bayesian network of concepts and their semantic relationships. ln addition, we propose the use of knowledge of the problem from external ressource to improve the performance of retrieval. The validation of the proposed mode is achieved by experiments in the medical domaine information retrieval, with the use of meta thesaurus UMU as external resource. The application for a system of information retrieval multi modality (text and images) was also performed.GRENOBLE1-BU Sciences (384212103) / SudocSudocFranceF

How Does Foreign Direct Investment Drive Employment Growth in Vietnam’s Formal Economy?

    No full text
Over the last three decades, Vietnam has undergone economic reforms and achieved rapid economic growth. However, the country is still facing numerous challenges linked to a relatively high share of employment in an informal economic sector, which could prevent Vietnam from escaping from the middle-income trap and becoming a high-income country. This research explores the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on job creation in the formal economic sector of Vietnam. A subnational dataset of 63 cities/provinces from 2006 to 2020 was analyzed using an instrumental variable two-stage least-squares fixed-effect model. The results show that FDI is an employment growth-enhancing factor in the formal economic sector. Specifically, FDI enterprises are found to be more capable than domestic enterprises in creating employment, and there is a positive employment spillover from the foreign to the domestic sector, although the magnitude of the effect remains small. Apart from FDI, firm agglomeration, capital resource productivity, and government support for sector development spur employment growth. Labor quality, profitability and foreign industrial agglomeration are identified to be determinants of FDI. Furthermore, the impact mechanism of FDI on the formal sector’s employment is further discussed using mindspongeconomics, the SM3D knowledge management system, and the culture tower
