Transconductance fluctuations as a probe for interaction induced quantum Hall states in graphene
Transport measurements normally provide a macroscopic, averaged view of the
sample, so that disorder prevents the observation of fragile interaction
induced states. Here, we demonstrate that transconductance fluctuations in a
graphene field effect transistor reflect charge localization phenomena on the
nanometer scale due to the formation of a dot network which forms near
incompressible quantum states. These fluctuations give access to fragile
broken-symmetry and fractional quantum Hall states even though these states
remain hidden in conventional magnetotransport quantities.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
A Comment on the Implementation of the Ziggurat Method
We show that the short period of the uniform random number generator in the published implementation of Marsaglia and Tsang's Ziggurat method for generating random deviates can lead to poor distributions. Changing the uniform random number generator used in its implementation fixes this issue.
Effect of Electron Beam Irradiation and Storage on the Quality Attributes of Sausages with Different Fat Contents
Sausages with different fat contents (16 or 29%) were purchased from local stores, vacuum-packaged in oxygen-impermeable bags, and irradiated at 0 or 5 kGy using a linear accelerator. The changes in quality attributes of irradiated sausages were determined during storage at 4°C. The 2-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance values of sausages were not affected by fat content but were increased after irradiation (5 kGy). Storage for 60 d increased the 2-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance values of nonirradiated sausages (P \u3c 0.05) but had no effect on irradiated sausages. The numbers of volatile compounds and the amounts of total volatiles were increased by irradiation in both the high-fat (29% fat) and low-fat (16% fat) sausages. Dimethyl sulfide was detected only in irradiated sausages, regardless of fat content (P \u3c 0.05), but it disappeared after 60 d of storage. Pentane and 1-heptene were detected only in irradiated samples after 60 d of storage. Low-fat sausages had greater L* values, but had lesser a* and b* values than high-fat sausages. Irradiation and storage had little effect on either the exterior or interior color (L*, a*, and b* values) of sausages. Fat content had no effect on the sensory variables of sausages, regardless of irradiation and storage. However, irradiated sausages had significantly stronger off-odors and off-flavors than nonirradiated sausages regardless of fat content (P \u3c 0.05). This indicated that fat content in sausages had a minimal effect on the quality of irradiated sausages during storage
Faddeev-Jackiw Analysis of Topological Mass Generating Action
We analyze the gauge symmetry of a topological mass generating action in four
dimensions which contains both a vector and a second rank antisymmetric tensor
fields. In the Abelian case, this system induces an effective mass for the
vector gauge field via a topological coupling in the presence of a
kinetic term for the antisymmetric tensor field , while maintaining a gauge
symmetry. On the other hand, for the non-Abelian case the field does not
have a gauge symmetry unless an auxiliary vector field is introduced to the
system. We analyze this change of symmetry in the Faddeev-Jackiw formalism, and
show how the auxiliary vector field enhances the symmetry. At the same time
this enhanced gauge symmetry becomes reducible. We also show this phenomenon in

The effect of high-speed power training on physical frailty in older adults: Effect of a visual-guided exercise program in South Korean rural areas
Objective. Exercise has been shown to be an effective intervention; the difficulty still lies in providing exercise programs to the older adults in rural areas. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effects of a 12-week exercise program provided with visual guidelines (prerecorded video) on frailty among older adults in rural areas. Methods. Fifty participants (71.7 ± 4.9 years) from 5 different rural areas were recruited and divided into two groups: the exercise group (EX, n = 24 (male: 8, female: 18)) and the control group (CON, n = 26 (male: 7, female: 17)). With the commencement of the exercise intervention, a prerecorded high-speed power training program for frail older adults was distributed to the EX group. A new prerecorded exercise program was delivered to the EX group every 4 weeks. Frailty status was diagnosed with Fried’s criteria before and after the intervention. Muscle strength was measured in the upper and lower limb strength (hand-grip strength and leg extension and flexion), and physical function was measured using a short physical performance battery and gait speed. Fasting blood was collected before and after the intervention and analyzed for blood lipid profile. Results. After 12 weeks of the intervention period, a significant difference in frailty status () and score () favoring the EX group was observed. Physical functions (gait speed () and time for sit to stand ()) were significantly improved in the EX group with a significant increase in knee extensor strength (). A significant difference in serum high-density lipoprotein levels favoring the EX group () was also observed. Conclusions. This study confirmed the positive effect of a visual-guided exercise program on older adults’ residents in rural areas and provided alternative methods to effectively provide exercise program for the older adults with limited resources
Uncovering Low-Dimensional Topological Structure in the QCD Vacuum
Recently, we have pointed out that sign-coherent 4-dimensional structures can
not dominate topological charge fluctuations in QCD vacuum at all scales. Here
we show that an enhanced lower-dimensional coherence is possible. In pure SU(3)
lattice gauge theory we find that in a typical equilibrium configuration about
80% of space-time points are covered by two oppositely-charged connected
structures built of elementary 3-dimensional coherent hypercubes. The
hypercubes within the structure are connected through 2-dimensional common
faces. We suggest that this coherence is a manifestation of a low-dimensional
order present in the QCD vacuum. The use of a topological charge density
associated with Ginsparg-Wilson fermions ("chiral smoothing") is crucial for

Topological Charge Correlators, Spectral Bounds, and Contact Terms
The structure of topological charge fluctuations in the QCD vacuum is
strongly restricted by the spectral negativity of the Euclidean 2-point
correlator for and the presence of a positive contact term. Some
examples are considered which illustrate the physical origin of these
