The application of newspaper archives to the study of slope instabilities in Asturias has several methodological limitations. Sorne of them are the low frequency of news refering to slope instability and the publication of only those affecting people and infrastructures without a scientifical data collection. Nevertheless, the analysis of the information about 209 news in the period 198094 has evidenced its utility in showing the spatiallocation of instabilities in the Central Coal Basin, and giving an approach to its impact over infrastructures. It is also worth to point out the possibility of using these archives as chronological instability records. This has allowed the establishment of an approach to the temporal relationships between rainfal1 and instability events for the studied interval
Electromagnetic interaction between a laser beam and semiconductor nanowires deposited on different substrates: Raman enhancement in Si Nanowires
Raman scattering of Si nanowires (NWs) presents antenna effects. The electromagnetic resonance depends on the electromagnetic coupling of the system laser/NW/substrate. The antenna effect of the Raman signal was measured in individual NWs deposited on different substrates, and also free standing NWs in air. The one phonon Raman band in NWs can reach high intensities depending on the system configuration; values of Raman intensity per unit volume more than a few hundred times with respect to bulk substrate can be obtainedRaman scattering of Si nanowires (NWs) presents antenna effects. Interaction between a laser beam and semiconductor nanowires: application to the raman spectrum of Si nanowires
One presents in this work the study of the interaction between a focused laser beam and Si nanowires (NWs). The NWs heating induced by the laser beam is studied by solving the heat transfer equation by finite element methods (fem). This analysis permits to establish the temperature distribution inside the NW when it is excited by the laser beam. The overheating is dependent on the dimensions of the NW, both the diameter and the length. When performing optical characterization of the NWs using focused laser beams, one has to consider the temperature increase introduced by the laser beam. An important issue concerns the fact that the NWs diameter has subwavelength dimensions, and is also smaller than the focused laser beam. The analysis of the thermal behaviour of the NWs under the excitation with the laser beam permits the interpretation of the Raman spectra of Si NWs, where it is demonstrated that temperature induced by the laser beam play a major role in shaping the Raman spectrum of Si NW
Pure diffusional creep of NiO polycrystals
Compressive creep testing of polycrystalline NiO has been performed in air and argon, at temperatures between 1 100 and 1 500 °C (0.61 to 0.79 TM) under loads corresponding to initial applied stresses from 6 to 90 MPa. Nabarro creep was observed in the lower stress range; creep rate and oxygen diffusivity show a good correlation.
Class mutation operators for C++ object-oriented systems
Mutation testing is a fault injection testing technique around which a great variety of studies and tools for different programming languages have been developed. Nevertheless, the mutation testing research with respect to C++ is pending. This paper proposes a set of class mutation operators related to this language and its particular object-oriented (OO) features. In addition, an implementation technique to apply mutation testing based on the traversal of the abstract syntax tree (AST) is presented. Finally, an experiment is conducted to study the operator behaviour with different C++ programs, suggesting their usefulness in the creation of complete test suites. The analysis includes a Web service (WS) library, one of the domains where this technique can prove useful, considering its challenging testing phase and that C++ is still a reference language for critical distributed systems WS
Novel IMU-based Adaptive Estimator of the Center of Rotation of Joints for Movement Analysis
The location of the center of rotation (COR) of joints is a key parameter in
multiple applications of human motion analysis. The aim of this work was to
propose a novel real-time estimator of the center of fixed joints using an
inertial measurement unit (IMU). Since the distance to this center commonly
varies during the joint motion due to soft tissue artifacts (STA), our approach
is aimed at adapting to these small variations when the COR is fixed. Our
proposal, called ArVEd, to the best of our knowledge, is the first real-time
estimator of the IMU-joint center vector based on one IMU. Previous works are
off-line and require a complete measurement batch to be solved and most of them
are not tested on the real scenario. The algorithm is based on an Extended
Kalman Filter (EKF) that provides an adaptive vector to STA motion variations
at each time instant, without requiring a pre-processing stage to reduce the
level of noise. ArVEd has been tested through different experiments, including
synthetic and real data. The synthetic data are obtained from a simulated
spherical pendulum whose COR is fixed, considering both a constant and a
variable IMU-joint vector, that simulates translational IMU motions due to STA.
The results prove that ArVEd is adapted to obtain a vector per sample with an
accuracy of 6.83.9 on the synthetic data, that means an error lower than
3.5% of the simulated IMU-joint vector. Its accuracy is also tested on the real
scenario estimating the COR of the hip of 5 volunteers using as reference the
results from an optical system. In this case, ArVEd gets an average error of
9.5% of the real vector value. In all the experiments, ArVEd outperforms the
published results of the reference algorithms.Comment: \c{opyright} 2021 IEEE. Personal use of this material is permitted.
