Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease, and is characterized by low bone mass and microstructure deterioration of the bone, which leads to increased risk of fracture. Biomarker of bone metabolism can be seen as beginning of bone loss and first detection before imbalanced bone turnover comes. Biomarker of bone formation as serum bone alkaline fosfatase, osteocalcin (OC), procollagen type I, and biomarker of bone resorption as urine pyridinoline (Pyd) and deoxypyridinoline (Dpd) crosslinks, hydroxyprolin. The simultaneous examination of serum OC and urine Pyd or Dpd as a very good screening test for determination of bone imbalanced at the moment of the menopausal or the beginning of the pasca menopausal. Saliva as a potential diagnostic fluid for the assessment of osteoporosis biomarker concentrations. The study found elevated three classic warning signs for osteopororsis os OC, Dpd and 116 in the saliva of sheep without ovaries, which were similar to the levels of signs found in their blood and urine. Expectations, that the test may become available within five years and one day the test may be able to be performed at home like pregnancy test. Osteoporosis biomarker in saliva suggested detected of bone mass density easier. Beside that can be used as a method of early diagnostic and as a monitor therapy that as salinity of the examinations of bone mass on radiology

PERAN HEAT SHOCK PROTEINS (HSP) DALAM PATOGENESIS PENYAKIT OTOIMUN DI DALAM RONGGA MULUT

Heat Shock Proteins (HSP) are highly conserved immunoreactive group of proteins found in microorganisms and animal/human tissue. In addition to heat, other stressful conditiions also induce stressed proteins, especially anorexia, heavy metal ion, exposure to H2O2 and infection by DNA or RNA viruses. Recent studies suggest the involvement of HSPs as autoantigens in autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Bechet's syndrome, recurrent oral uclers, oral lichen planus and other. The HSPs 60 - 65 KDa might be involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases such as Bechet's syndrome, recurrent oral ulcers, and oral lichen planus. This paper will discuss the immunopathogenesis mechanism of those diseases induced by HSPs

One of the major health problems in elderly women is osteoporosis post menopause. Dentists must be aware of the disease since its involvement on the jaw. Nowadays, there are a lot of researches on correlation of osteopororsis and mandible but only few concentrate on hormonal substitution therapy and/or Calcium-vitamin D3 (Ca-Vit D3). This research is to evaluate the effect of hormonal substitiution therapy and/or Ca-vit D3 on mandibular height. Forty five rats used in this research and divided into nine groups: one control group, two ovariectomized (OVX) groups, two OVX groups treated with estrogen, two OVC groups treated with Ca-vit D3, two OVC groups treated with estrogen and Ca-vit D3. All of the rats except the control group were ovariectomized as model for postmenopausal estrogen deficiency state. The treatment was done in two or four weeks. The animals were killed with cervical dislocation, the mandible were excised and soaked on Hydrogen Peroxide 10%. Then the mandible's heights on right buccal side were measured from the manduble base to the alveolar crest. It is concluded that hormonal substitution therapy and combination of the hormonal substitution therapy and Ca-vit D3 can maintain the normal mandibular height. Mandibular height of groups with therapy using Ca-vit D3 have slightly lower means compared to control group but without significant difference statistically. The best therapy is combination of hormonal substitution therapy and Ca-vit D3

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of ovariectomy, the influences of estrogen replacement therapy and/or suppelment CavitD3 on mandible's calcium contents of animal's models. Forty-five female rats were used in this research. Five rates were sacrificed for unoperated basal controls and the others were bilaterally ovariectomized. The ovariectomized animals were divided into 8 groups and two of these groups were only ovariectomized, the others were treated by estrogen replacement therapy. CavitD3 and combination of both per oral for 2 and 4 weeks and then were sacrificed. Mandible's calcium contents were analyzed by Ion Selective Electrode after demineralized with 10% phosphoric acid for 24 hours. Result : there were significant increased of mandible's calcium content at 2 weeks post-ovariectomy, but the results decreased at 4 weeks post-ovariectomy. Estrogen replacement therapy and treated with CavitD3 for 2 and 4 weeks or combination of both for 2 weeks increased the mandible's calcium contents of ovariectomized rats, but therapy combination with estrogen and CavitD3 for 4 weeks had a protective effect to mandible's calcium contents of ovariectomized rats

Cytokines are polypeptide growth factors and produced by most nucleated cells in the body. The Homeostatic mechanism in oral mucosa is affected by these factors, which are produced by immunocompetent or un immunocompetent cells in the oral mucosa. Cytokine has more than one function and activity, that is called "pleiotropic", and if wokres in sinergishc and anatgonistic system. According to the function there are 6 kindo of cytokines as follows: Interleukin (IL), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), Kemokin, Collony Stimulating factor (CSF), Interferon (IFN) and growth factor (GF). Many agents will invade oral mucosa and will produce unstable cytokine, therefore: this situation can cause pathologic condition in oral mucosa such as lichen planus, autoimmune disease and neoplasma.
