Local Magnetic Inhomogeneities in Lightly Doped BaFe2_2As2_2

We report 75^{75}As NMR measurements in BaFe2_2As2_2 doped with Ni. Like Co, Ni doping suppresses the antiferromagnetic and structural phase transitions and gives rise to superconductivity for sufficiently large Ni doping. The spin lattice relaxation rate diverges at TNT_N, with a critical exponent consistent with 3D ordering of local moments. In the ordered state the spectra quickly broaden inhomogeneously with doping. We extract the average size of the ordered moment as a function of doping, and show that a model in which the order remains commensurate but with local amplitude variations in the vicinity of the dopant fully explains our observations.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Unconventional and conventional quantum criticalities in CeRh0.58_{0.58}Ir0.42_{0.42}In5_5

An appropriate description of the state of matter that appears as a second order phase transition is tuned toward zero temperature, {\it viz.} quantum-critical point (QCP), poses fundamental and still not fully answered questions. Experiments are needed both to test basic conclusions and to guide further refinement of theoretical models. Here, charge and entropy transport properties as well as AC specific heat of the heavy-fermion compound CeRh0.58_{0.58}Ir0.42_{0.42}In5_5, measured as a function of pressure, reveal two qualitatively different QCPs in a {\it single} material driven by a {\it single} non-symmetry-breaking tuning parameter. A discontinuous sign-change jump in thermopower suggests an unconventional QCP at pc1p_{c1} accompanied by an abrupt Fermi-surface reconstruction that is followed by a conventional spin-density-wave critical point at pc2p_{c2} across which the Fermi surface evolves smoothly to a heavy Fermi-liquid state. These experiments are consistent with some theoretical predictions, including the sequence of critical points and the temperature dependence of the thermopower in their vicinity.Comment: 21+3 pages, 4+2 figures. Teacher Perceptions of the Efficacy of Literacy Coaching as a Valuable Professional Development Practice

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to explore the perceived effectiveness of literacy coaching as a valuable professional development practice for teachers in New Jersey provided with literacy coaching support from a school-based literacy coach. This study also explored instructional coaching and the potential impact this support has on teacher practice. The study was designed to identify the successful professional development strategies that instructional coaches in New Jersey utilized to influence teacher practice. This study may be valuable to researchers, school districts, and educators currently or seeking to implement an instructional coaching program as part of high-quality professional development. The lived experiences of practicing teachers and literacy coaches yielded a substantial amount of specific strategies employed to ensure the successful utilization of literacy coaching as a professional development practice. This investigation may also bring awareness to educational professionals seeking to understand the link between instructional coaching support and professional development practices. For this study, a narrative research design was best suited to examine and understand teachers’ perceptions of coaching-related experiences and the meaning derived from their interactions with literacy coaches. Themes were developed and focused on specific motifs, carefully weaving out central elements within the narrative. As evidenced by the research, it is well-advised to investigate the progression of professional development practices to identify and develop future instructional coaches, programs, and adequate professional development opportunities
