Hot Spots on the Fermi Surface of Bi2212: Stripes versus Superstructure

In a recent paper Saini et al. have reported evidence for a pseudogap around (pi,0) at room temperature in the optimally doped superconductor Bi2212. This result is in contradiction with previous ARPES measurements. Furthermore they observed at certain points on the Fermi surface hot spots of high spectral intensity which they relate to the existence of stripes in the CuO planes. They also claim to have identified a new electronic band along Gamma-M1 whose one dimensional character provides further evidence for stripes. We demonstrate in this Comment that all the measured features can be simply understood by correctly considering the superstructure (umklapp) and shadow bands which occur in Bi2212.Comment: 1 page, revtex, 1 encapsulated postscript figure (color

Features of pulsed synchronization of a systems with a tree-dimensional phase space

Features of synchronization picture in the system with the limit cycle embedded in a three-dimensional phase space are considered. By the example of Ressler system and Dmitriev - Kislov generator under the action of a periodic sequence of delta - function it is shown, that synchronization picture significantly depends on the direction of pulse action. Features of synchronization tons appeared in these models are observed.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figure

Superconducting gap symmetry of Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 studied by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy

We have performed high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy on the optimally-doped Ba0.6_{0.6}K0.4_{0.4}Fe2_2As2_2 compound and determined the accurate momentum dependence of the superconducting (SC) gap in four Fermi-surface sheets including a newly discovered outer electron pocket at the M point. The SC gap on this pocket is nearly isotropic and its magnitude is comparable (Δ\Delta ∌\sim 11 meV) to that of the inner electron and hole pockets (∌\sim12 meV), although it is substantially larger than that of the outer hole pocket (∌\sim6 meV). The Fermi-surface dependence of the SC gap value is basically consistent with Δ\Delta(kk) = Δ\Delta0_0coskxk_xcoskyk_y formula expected for the extended s-wave symmetry. The observed finite deviation from the simple formula suggests the importance of multi-orbital effects.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl

Validation of the inverted adsorption structure for free-base tetraphenyl porphyrin on Cu(111)

Utilising normal incidence X-ray standing waves we rigourously scrutinise the “inverted model” as the adsorption structure of free-base tetraphenyl porphyrin on Cu(111). We demonstrate that the iminic N atoms are anchored at near-bridge adsorption sites on the surface displaced laterally by 1.1 ± 0.2 Å in excellent agreement with previously published calculations

Evaluating the semantic web: a task-based approach

    Get PDF
The increased availability of online knowledge has led to the design of several algorithms that solve a variety of tasks by harvesting the Semantic Web, i.e. by dynamically selecting and exploring a multitude of online ontologies. Our hypothesis is that the performance of such novel algorithms implicity provides an insight into the quality of the used ontologies and thus opens the way to a task-based evaluation of the Semantic Web. We have investigated this hypothesis by studying the lessons learnt about online ontologies when used to solve three tasks: ontology matching, folksonomy enrichment, and word sense disambiguation. Our analysis leads to a suit of conclusions about the status of the Semantic Web, which highlight a number of strengths and weaknesses of the semantic information available online and complement the findings of other analysis of the Semantic Web landscape

Spin photocurrent, its spectra dependence, and current-induced spin polarization in an InGaAs/InAlAs two-dimensional electron gas

Converse effect of spin photocurrent and current induced spin polarization are experimentally demonstrated in the same two-dimensional electron gas system with Rashba spin splitting. Their consistency with the strength of the Rashba coupling as measured from beating of the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations reveals a unified picture for the spin photocurrent, current-induced spin polarization and spin orbit coupling. In addition, the observed spectral inversion of the spin photocurrent indicates the system with dominating structure inversion asymmetry.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

Single-mode tuneable laser operation of hybrid microcavities based on CdSe/CdS core/shell colloidal nanorods on silica microspheres

    No full text
Colloidal core/shell semiconductor nanonorystals have generated a great deal of interest as gain media in recent years due to a number of salient properties originating from their small size and the associated quantum confinement [1]. These include low-threshold and temperature-insensitive lasing, reduced trapping of excited carriers, and the possibility to alleviate non-radiative Auger recombination by engineering the wavefunction distributions of the electrons, and holes within their volume. Here, single-mode, tuneable operation of fiber-coupled hybrid lasers based on colloidal CdSe/CdS core/shell nanorods on silica microspheres is reported
