Hyperfine and Optical Barium Ion Qubits
State preparation, qubit rotation, and high fidelity readout are demonstrated
for two separate \baseven qubit types. First, an optical qubit on the narrow
6S to 5D transition at 1.76 m is implemented. Then,
leveraging the techniques developed there for readout, a ground state hyperfine
qubit using the magnetically insensitive transition at 8 GHz is accomplished

The deep-water shrimp were already studied many years ago, but their commercial fishing on large scale, only developed from the seventies. Two Luso-U.S. fishing companies (1966), and a Luso-South African company (1963- 1968), dedicated to the fishing of deep-water crustaceans, including Haliporoides triarthrus species (AraĆŗjo, 1973). Also Champion (1973) described commercial catches of Plesiopenaeus edwardsianus, Aristaeomorpha foliacea and Haliporoides triarthrus in the waters of Mozambique. The first Spanish vessels began fishing activity in 1968 (Freitas and AraĆŗjo, 1973) but all of these companies captured mainly penaideos on the continental shelf
Quasiconformality and mass
We identify universal quasiconformal (walking) behaviour in non-Abelian gauge
field theories based on the mass-dependent all-order beta-function introduced
in arXiv:0908.1364. We find different types of walking behaviour in the
presence of (partially) massive species. We employ our findings to the
construction of candidate theories for dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking
by walking technicolour.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures
Entangled photons, nonlocality and Bell inequalities in the undergraduate laboratory
We use polarization-entangled photon pairs to demonstrate quantum nonlocality
in an experiment suitable for advanced undergraduates. The photons are produced
by spontaneous parametric downconversion using a violet diode laser and two
nonlinear crystals. The polarization state of the photons is tunable. Using an
entangled state analogous to that described in the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen
``paradox,'' we demonstrate strong polarization correlations of the entanged
photons. Bell's idea of a hidden variable theory is presented by way of an
example and compared to the quantum prediction. A test of the Clauser, Horne,
Shimony and Holt version of the Bell inequality finds , in
clear contradiciton of hidden variable theories. The experiments described can
