Características de las bandejas biodegradables de almidón de papa (Solanum phureja) reforzadas con maíz amarillo (Zea mays L.) y tocón de espárrago blanco (Asparagus officinalis)

Biodegradable trays seek to be an alternative solution to the environmental problems caused by the accumulation of plastics.  The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the addition of white asparagus stump fiber and yellow corn stover fiber on the mechanical properties of potato starch-based biodegradable trays. Three starch/fiber ratios (95/5; 90/10 and 85/15) were used and physical characteristics (thickness and density) and mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation, strength and fracture) were evaluated. The results showed the 85/15 corn starch/fiber ratio treatment as the one that presented the best expansion with fibers, tensile strength of 0.2132 MPa and elongation of 1.58%, as well as resistance to the hardness test of 17.29 kg and 2.64 mm of fracturability. These results obtained could demonstrate the alternative to the use of polystyrene foam trays.Las bandejas biodegradables buscan ser alternativas de solución a los problemas medioambientales originados por la acumulación de plásticos.  Este trabajo tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto de la adición de fibra de tocón de espárrago blanco y fibra de tusa de maíz amarillo en las propiedades mecánicas de bandejas biodegradables a base de almidón de papa. Se utilizaron tres relaciones de almidón/fibra (95/5; 90/10 y 85/15) y se evaluaron características físicas (espesor y densidad) y propiedades mecánicas (resistencia a la tracción, elongación, fuerza y fracturamiento). Los resultados mostraron al tratamiento relación almidón/fibra de maíz de 85/15, como aquella que presentó una mejor expansión con fibras, resistencia a la tracción de 0,2132 MPa y elongación 1,58 %, así como resistencia a la prueba de dureza de 17,29 kg y 2,64 mm de fracturabilidad.
