A dark energy multiverse
We present cosmic solutions corresponding to universes filled with dark and
phantom energy, all having a negative cosmological constant. All such solutions
contain infinite singularities, successively and equally distributed along
time, which can be either big bang/crunchs or big rips singularities.
Classicaly these solutions can be regarded as associated with multiverse
scenarios, being those corresponding to phantom energy that may describe the
current accelerating universe
Osteoporosis transitoria de la cadera: revisiĂłn de aspectos clĂnicos y terapĂ©uticos a propĂłsito de un caso
Presentamos el caso de una mujer de 17 años con osteoporosis transitoria de
cadera (OTC). La OTC es una enfermedad infrecuente, difĂcil de etiquetar, que afecta a hombres
sanos de mediana edad, y a mujeres en el tercer trimestre del embarzo. Su etiologĂa todavĂa
no estĂĄ clara. Los principales signos clĂnicos son dolor en la cadera y cojera. La RM
muestra en la cabeza y cuello femoral hipointensidad en las imĂĄgenes ponderadas en T1, e hiperintensidad
en las imĂĄgenes ponderadas en T2. Se acepta que los cambios en la RM se producen
por incremento de lĂquido en la cavidad medular de la cabeza femoral. Es importante el
diagnĂłstico diferencial con otras enfermedades de la cadera. El propĂłsito de esta publicaciĂłn
es aclarar los aspectos diagnósticos y terapéuticos de la OTC.A case of transient osteoporosis of the hips in a 17-year-old-woman is reported.
Transient osteoporosis of the hip (TOH) is an uncommon but possibly underdiagnosed condition.
The TOH affects previous healthy middle-age men, and women in the third trimester of
pregnancy. Its etiology is still unclear. Pain in the hip area and limp are the main clinical signs.
The MRI study shows low signal intensity on the Tl weighted images and limp signal intensity
on the T2 weighted images in the femoral head and neck. It is generally accepted that the
change in MRI is caused by an increase in fluid within the marrow cavities of the femoral head.
Differential diagnosis of hip problems is required. The purpose of this report is to review the
diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of TOH
The NALP3/Cryopyrin-Inflammasome Complex is Expressed in LPS-Induced Ocular Inflammation
In the inflammosome complex, NALP3 or NALP1 binds to ASC and activates caspase-1 which induces IL-1ÎČ. In murine LPS-induced ocular inflammation, the production of IL-1ÎČ is increased. We suggest that NALP3- or NALP1-inflammasome complex can be participating in the LPS-induced ocular inflammation. In this work, eye, brain, testis, heart, spleen, and lung were obtained from C3H/HeN mice treated with LPS for 3 to 48 hours, and the expression of NALP1b, NALP3, ASC, caspase-1, IL-1ÎČ, and IL-18 was determined. Infiltrated leukocytes producing IL-1ÎČ in the anterior chamber were found at 12-hour posttreatment. A high upregulated expression of NALP3, ASC, caspase-1, IL-1ÎČ, and IL-18 was found at the same time when infiltrated leukocytes were observed. NALP1b was not detected in the eye of treated mice. NALP3 was also overexpressed in heart and lung. These results suggest that NALP3-, but not NALP1-inflammosome complex, is participating in the murine LPS-induced ocular inflammation
Classical Euclidean wormhole solutions in Palatini cosmology
We study the classical Euclidean wormholes in the context of extended
theories of gravity. With no loss of generality, we use the dynamical
equivalence between gravity and scalar-tensor theories to
construct a point-like Lagrangian in the flat FRW space time. We first show the
dynamical equivalence between Palatini gravity and the
Brans-Dicke theory with self-interacting potential, and then show the dynamical
equivalence between the Brans-Dicke theory with self-interacting potential and
the minimally coupled O'Hanlon theory. We show the existence of new Euclidean
wormhole solutions for this O'Hanlon theory and, for an special case, find out
the corresponding form of having wormhole solution. For small
values of the Ricci scalar, this is in agreement with the
wormhole solution obtained for higher order gravity theory .Comment: 11 page
On the warp drive space-time
In this paper the problem of the quantum stability of the two-dimensional
warp drive spacetime moving with an apparent faster than light velocity is
considered. We regard as a maximum extension beyond the event horizon of that
spacetime its embedding in a three-dimensional Minkowskian space with the
topology of the corresponding Misner space. It is obtained that the interior of
the spaceship bubble becomes then a multiply connected nonchronal region with
closed timelike curves and that the most natural vacuum allows quantum
fluctuations which do not induce any divergent behaviour of the re-normalized
stress-energy tensor, even on the event (Cauchy) chronology horizon. In such a
case, the horizon encloses closed timelike curves only at scales close to the
Planck length, so that the warp drive satisfies the Ford's negative energy-time
inequality. Also found is a connection between the superluminal two-dimensional
warp drive space and two-dimensional gravitational kinks. This connection
allows us to generalize the considered Alcubierre metric to a standard,

Slit Observations and Empirical Calculations for HII Regions
When analysing HII regions, a possible source of systematic error on
empirically derived physical quantities is the limited size of the slit used
for the observations. A grid of photoionization models was built through the
Aangaba code varying the ionizing radiation spectrum emitted by a stellar
cluster, as well as the gas abundance. The calculated line surface brightness
was then used to simulate slit observations and to derive empirical parameters
using the usual methods described in the literature. Depending on the fraction
of the object covered by the slit, the parameters can be different from those
obtained from observations of the whole object, an effect that is mainly
dependent on the age of the ionizing stellar cluster. The low-ionization
forbidden lines are more sensitive to the size of the area covered by the slit
than the high-ionization forbidden lines or recombination lines. Regarding the
temperature indicator T[OIII], the slit effects are small since this
temperature is derived from [OIII] lines. On the other hand, for the abundance
indicator R23, which depends also on the [OII] line, the slit effect is
slightly higher. Therefore, the systematic error due to slit observations on
the O abundance is low, being usually less than 10%, except for HII regions
powered by stellar clusters with a relative low number of ionizing photons
between 13.6 and 54.4 eV, which create a smaller O++ emitting volume. In this
case, the systematic error on the empirical O abundance deduced from slit

Quintessence and the first Doppler peak
By using a tracking quintessence model we obtain that the position of the
first Doppler peak in the spectrum of CMB anisotropies only depends on the
topology of the universe, , for any value of the ratio
, so that such a dependence is perfectly valid in

Histopathological characteristics of cutaneous lesions caused by Leishmania Viannia panamensis in Panama
Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is an endemic disease in the Republic of Panama, caused by Leishmania (Viannia) parasites, whose most common clinical manifestation is the presence of ulcerated lesions on the skin. These lesions usually present a chronic inflammatory reaction, sometimes granulomatous, with the presence of lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages. This study describes the histopathological characteristics found in the skin lesions of patients with CL caused by Leishmania (V.) panamensis in Panama. We analyzed 49 skin biopsy samples from patients with clinical suspicion of CL, by molecular tests (PCR for subgenus Viannia and HSP-70) and by Hematoxylin-Eosin staining. Samples were characterized at the species level by PCR-HSP-70/RFLP. From the 49 samples studied, 46 (94%) were positive by PCR and were characterized as Leishmania (V.) panamensis. Of these, 48% were positive by Hematoxylin-Eosin staining with alterations being observed both, in the epidermis (85%) and in the dermis (100%) of skin biopsies. The inflammatory infiltrate was characterized according to histopathological patterns: lymphohistiocytic (50%), lymphoplasmacytic (61%) and granulomatous (46%) infiltration, being the combination of these patterns frequently found. The predominant histopathological characteristics observed in CL lesions caused by L. (V.) panamensis in Panama were: an intense inflammatory reaction in the dermis with a combination of lymphohistiocytic, lymphoplasmacytic and granulomatous presentation patterns and the presence of ulcers, acanthosis, exocytosis and spongiosis in the epidermis
Using membrane computing for obtaining homology groups of binary 2D digital images
Membrane Computing is a new paradigm inspired from cellular communication. Until now, P systems have been used in research areas like modeling chemical process, several ecosystems, etc. In this paper, we apply P systems to Computational Topology within the context of the Digital Image. We work with a variant of P systems called tissue-like P systems to calculate in a general maximally parallel manner the homology groups of 2D images. In fact, homology computation for binary pixel-based 2D digital images can be reduced to connected component labeling of white and black regions. Multi-band high resolution spectroscopy rules out the hot Jupiter BD+20 1790b - First data from the GIARPS Commissioning
Context. Stellar activity is currently challenging the detection of young
planets via the radial velocity (RV) technique. Aims. We attempt to
definitively discriminate the nature of the RV variations for the young active
K5 star BD+20 1790, for which visible (VIS) RV measurements show divergent
results on the existence of a substellar companion. Methods. We compare VIS
data with high precision RVs in the near infrared (NIR) range by using the
GIANO - B and IGRINS spectrographs. In addition, we present for the first time
simultaneous VIS-NIR observations obtained with GIARPS (GIANO - B and HARPS -
N) at Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG). Orbital RVs are achromatic, so the RV
amplitude does not change at different wavelengths, while stellar activity
induces wavelength-dependent RV variations, which are significantly reduced in
the NIR range with respect to the VIS. Results. The NIR radial velocity
measurements from GIANO - B and IGRINS show an average amplitude of about one
quarter with respect to previously published VIS data, as expected when the RV
jitter is due to stellar activity. Coeval multi-band photometry surprisingly
shows larger amplitudes in the NIR range, explainable with a mixture of cool
and hot spots in the same active region. Conclusions. In this work, the claimed
massive planet around BD+20 1790 is ruled out by our data. We exploited the
crucial role of multi- wavelength spectroscopy when observing young active
stars: thanks to facilities like GIARPS that provide simultaneous observations,
this method can reach its maximum potential.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figure
