Improving bounds on flavor changing vertices in the two Higgs doublet model from mixing
We find some constraints on the flavor changing vertices of the two Higgs
doublet model, from the \Delta M_{B_{d}} measurement. Although bounds from this
observable have already been considered, this paper takes into account the role
of a new operator not included previously, as well as the vertices \xi_{bb},
\xi_{tc} and \xi_{sb}. Using the Cheng-Sher parametrization, we found that for
a relatively light charged Higgs boson (200-300 GeV), we get that \lambda
_{tt}<1, while the parameter \lambda_{bb} could have values up to about 50. In
addition, we use bounds for \lambda_{tt} and \lambda_{bb} obtained from
B^{0}->X_{s}\gamma at next to leading order, and studied the case where the
only vanishing vertex factors are the ones involving quarks from the first
family. We obtained that \Delta M_{B_{d}} is not sensitive to the change of the
parameter \lambda_{sb}, while \lambda_{tc}<1Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, LaTeX2

The US Support Program to IAEA Safeguards Priority of Containment and Surveillance
The United States Support Program (USSP) priority for containment and surveillance (US) focuses on maintaining or improving the reliability and cost-effectiveness of C/S systems for IAEA safeguards, expanding the number of systems that are unattended and remotely monitored, and developing verification methods that help streamline the on-site inspection process. Existing IAEA C/S systems have evolved to become complex, integrated systems, which may include active seals, nondestructive assay (NDA) instruments, video cameras, and other sensors. These systems operate autonomously. They send analytical data to IAEA headquarters where it can be reviewed. These systems present challenges to the goals of improved system performance, standardization, reliability, maintainability, documentation, and cost effectiveness. One critical lesson from past experiences is the need for cooperation and common objectives among the IAEA, the developer, and the facility operator, to create a successful, cost effective system. Recent USSP C/S activities include Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant safeguard systems, production of a new shift register, numerous vulnerability assessments of C/S systems, a conduit monitoring system which identifies tampering of IAEA conduit deployed in the field, fiber optic seal upgrades, unattended monitoring system software upgrades, next generation surveillance system which will upgrade existing camera systems, and support of the IAEA's development of the universal nondestructive assay data acquisition platform
Crack paths under mixed mode loading
Long fatigue cracks that initially experience mixed mode displacements usually change direction in response to cyclic elastic stresses. Eventually the cracks tend to orient themselves into a pure mode I condition, but the path that they take can be complex and chaotic. In this paper, we report on recent developments in techniques for tracking the crack path as it grows and evaluating the strength of the mixed mode crack tip stress field

Delta rho pi interaction leading to N* and Delta* resonances
We have performed a calculation for the three body system
by using the fixed center approximation to Faddeev equations, taking the
interaction between and , and, and and
from the chiral unitary approach. We find several peaks in the modulus
squared of the three-body scattering amplitude, indicating the existence of
resonances, which can be associated to known and and baryon states.Comment: Presented at the 21st European Conference on Few-Body Problems in

Whole-genome doubling drives oncogenic loss of chromatin segregation.
Whole-genome doubling (WGD) is a recurrent event in human cancers and it promotes chromosomal instability and acquisition of aneuploidies 1-8 . However, the three-dimensional organization of chromatin in WGD cells and its contribution to oncogenic phenotypes are currently unknown. Here we show that in p53-deficient cells, WGD induces loss of chromatin segregation (LCS). This event is characterized by reduced segregation between short and long chromosomes, A and B subcompartments and adjacent chromatin domains. LCS is driven by the downregulation of CTCF and H3K9me3 in cells that bypassed activation of the tetraploid checkpoint. Longitudinal analyses revealed that LCS primes genomic regions for subcompartment repositioning in WGD cells. This results in chromatin and epigenetic changes associated with oncogene activation in tumours ensuing from WGD cells. Notably, subcompartment repositioning events were largely independent of chromosomal alterations, which indicates that these were complementary mechanisms contributing to tumour development and progression. Overall, LCS initiates chromatin conformation changes that ultimately result in oncogenic epigenetic and transcriptional modifications, which suggests that chromatin evolution is a hallmark of WGD-driven cancer
Broiler pulmonary hypertension syndrome. I. Increased right ventricular mass in broilers experimentally infected with Aegyptianella pullorum
Infection with the obligatory intra-erythrocytic anaplasma-like rickettsia Aegyptianella pullorum in 4-week old
broilers at a moderate altitude of 1 200 m produced a significant increase in the mean relative right ventricular
(RV) mass (RV : TV) from 0,23 in the controls to 0,31 in the infected group. This was accompanied by an
increase in the number of birds suffering from severe RV hypertrophy from 14,3 % in the controls to 50 % in the
infected group.
Pulmonary hypertension and subsequent RV hypertrophy could have been caused by the severe anaemia
experienced in the course of the infection or by metabolic or biochemical action of A. pullorum. As the agent
does not occur on commercial broiler farms, it cannot play a practical role in the broiler ascites syndrome. The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.

The Landau Pole and decays in the 331 bilepton model
We calculate the decay widths and branching ratios of the extra neutral boson
predicted by the 331 bilepton model in the framework of two
different particle contents. These calculations are performed taken into
account oblique radiative corrections, and Flavor Changing Neutral Currents
(FCNC) under the ansatz of Matsuda as a texture for the quark mass matrices.
Contributions of the order of are obtained in the branching
ratios, and partial widths about one order of magnitude bigger in relation with
other non- and bilepton models are also obtained. A Landau-like pole arise at
3.5 TeV considering the full particle content of the minimal model (MM), where
the exotic sector is considered as a degenerated spectrum at 3 TeV scale. The
Landau pole problem can be avoid at the TeV scales if a new leptonic content
running below the threshold at TeV is implemented as suggested by other
authors.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, LaTeX2
Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment of the Top Quark Revisited
We study the complete one-loop contributions to the chromagnetic dipole
moment of the top quark in the Standard Model, two Higgs doublet
models, topcolor assited technicolor models (TC2), 331 models and extended
models with a single extra dimension. We find that the SM predicts
and that the predictions of the other models are also
consitent with the constraints imposed on by low-energy
precision measurements.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, Updat
