    Resource Optimization in Visible Light Communication Using Internet of Things

    In the modern day, there is a serious spectrum crunch in the legacy radio frequency (RF) band, for which visible light communication (VLC) can be a promising option. VLC is a short-range wireless communication variant which uses the visible light spectrum. In this thesis, we are using a VLC-based architecture for providing scalable communications to Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices where a multi-element hemispherical bulb is used that can transmit data streams from multiple light emitting diode (LED) boards. The essence of this architecture is that it uses a Line-of-Sight (LoS) alignment protocol that handles the hand-off issue created by the movement of receivers inside a room. We start by proposing an optimization problem aiming to minimize the total consumed energy emitted by each LED taking into consideration the LEDs\u27 power budget, users\u27 perceived quality-of-service, LED-user associations, and illumination uniformity constraints. Then, because of the non-convexity of the problem, we propose to solve it in two stages: (1) We design an efficient algorithm for LED-user association for fixed LED powers, and (2) using the LED-user association, we find an approximate solution based on Taylor series to optimize the LEDs\u27 power. We devise two heuristic solutions based on this approach. The first heuristic solution, called the Low Complexity Two Stages Solution (TSS), optimizes the association between the LEDs and the mobile users before and then the power of each LED is optimized. In the second heuristic, named the Maximum Uniformity Approach, we try to improve the illumination uniformity first and then adjust the power values for each LED so that they do not go above a certain value. Finally, we illustrate the performance of our method via simulations

    BackgroundThis review analyzed the magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic globally and in India and the measures to counter its effect using natural and innate immune booster molecules. The study focuses on two phases: the first focuses on the magnitude, and the second on the effect of antioxidants (natural compounds) on SARS-CoV-2.MethodsThe magnitude of the prevalence, mortality, and comorbidities was acquired from the World Health Organization (WHO) report, media, a report from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), newspapers, and the National Centre of Disease Control (NCDC). Research articles from PubMed as well as other sites/journals and databases were accessed to gather literature on the effect of antioxidants.ResultsIn the elderly and any chronic diseases, the declined level of antioxidant molecules enhanced the reactive oxygen species, which in turn deprived the immune system.ConclusionInnate antioxidant proteins like sirtuin and sestrin play a vital role in enhancing immunity. Herbal products and holistic approaches can also be alternative solutions for everyday life to boost the immune system by improving the redox balance in COVID-19 attack.     Beneficial impacts of biochar as a potential feed additive in animal husbandry

    In the last decade, biochar production and use have grown in popularity. Biochar is comparable to charcoal and activated charcoal because it is a pyrogenic carbonaceous matter made by pyrolyzing organic carbon-rich materials. There is a lack of research into the effects of adding biochar to animal feed. Based on the reviewed literature, including its impact on the adsorption of toxins, blood biochemistry, feed conversion rate, digestion, meat quality, and greenhouse gas emissions, adding biochar to the diet of farm animals is a good idea. This study compiles the most important research on biochar's potential as a supplement to the diets of ruminants (including cows and goats), swine, poultry, and aquatic organisms like fish. Biochar supplementation improves animal growth, haematological profiles, meat, milk and egg yield, resistance to illnesses (especially gut pathogenic bacteria), and reduced ruminant methane emission. Biochar's strong sorption capacity also helps efficiently remove contaminants and poisons from the animals' bodies and the farm surroundings where they are raised. Animal farmers are predicted to make greater use of biochar in the future. Biochar could potentially be of value in the healthcare and human health fields; hence research into this area is encouraged. The present review highlights the potential benefits of biochar as an additive to animal feed and demonstrates how, when combined with other environmentally friendly practices, biochar feeding can extend the longevity of animal husbandry

    Cow's milk, urine, dung, ghee, and curd (together known as "Panchgavya") have incomparable medicinal value in Ayurveda and ancient Indian clinical methods. Panchgavya is also known as Cowpathy in Ayurveda. In India, the cow is revered as a goddess known as "Gaumata" because of its nurturing qualities similar to those of a mother. Almost no adverse effects are associated with using Panchgavya, which is why it is recommended in Ayurveda for treating disorders affecting numerous body systems. Its possible antimicrobial effects have piqued the curiosity of medical researchers and practitioners. Cow milk is widely regarded as a nutritious diet and has been shown to effectively treat various medical conditions, including high body temperature, pain, cancer, diabetes, kidney diseases, and weakness. Milk can prevent the growth of microorganisms, has erotic qualities when combined with the leaves of medicinal herbs, and the fat in milk has anticancer characteristics. Toned and skim milk, lassi, yoghurt, cottage cheese, and khoa all come from milk and have important medicinal characteristics. Curd (dahi) is recommended as a blood purifier for conditions such as hemorrhoids, piles, and gastrointestinal issues. Ghee made from cows has been shown to boost immunity. It is important to highlight the use of cow dung as an antifungal and for treating malaria and tuberculosis. It has the potential to aid in the development of a populace free from disease, the creation of sustainable energy systems, the fulfilment of all nutritional needs, the elimination of poverty, the promotion of organic farming culture, and the like. Cow urine is a powerful remedy for numerous medical conditions, including but not limited to epileptic convulsions, diabetes, hepatitis, inflammation, fever, and anaemia.     According to the Food and Agricultural Organization, global poultry output increased from approximately 115 million tons in 2016 to around 136 million tons in 2023. Poultry production has increased significantly with the dramatic uptick in meat and egg demand. Feed accounts for between 65 and 70 percent of total production costs, making it the largest chicken industry expense. This is why it's important to maximize the transformation of poultry feed into feed with a high biological value while taking as many steps as possible to protect feed quality and reduce feed costs. The use of feed additives in poultry feed has recently gained popularity and has been essential to increase feed efficiency and growth rate, which typically leads to reduced costs. The meat's texture, consistency, and nutritional content are all improved, and its shelf life is lengthened as a bonus. Feed additives are a fantastic tool for boosting a poultry farm's bottom line. For example, cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is often used as a traditional feed supplement. Rather than antibiotics, the poultry industry could benefit from using cinnamon as a natural antibiotic replacement, which would benefit animal welfare, consumer health, and the bottom line. The performance index, feed intake, FCE performance, and weight growth of poultry can all be improved by including cinnamon in the feed at varied concentrations. Efficacy in feeding, digestion of nutrients, antioxidant health, immunological indices, and other factors can all be improved with the help of these additives, which in turn increases growth rates and improves poultry welfare. Several researchers have used sophisticated herbal formulae that included Glycyrrhiza glabra (Liquorice) as an ingredient.     Tunable Emission from Fluorescent Organic Nanoparticles in Water: Insight into the Nature of Self-Assembly and Photoswitching

    Excitation-dependent tuning of the emission behavior of fluorescent organic nanoparticles (FONs) with two simple luminescent pyrenyl-pyridyl conjugates as model systems is demonstrated. In the case of the compound with a flexible bis-picolyl moiety, the simultaneous presence of multiple ground-state species with distinct absorption and emission characteristics can be observed. The relative ratios of these species can easily be modulated, and it is possible to selectively stimulate any one of them individually by choosing an appropriate excitation channel. Moreover, at high concentration, a drastic change in the nature of the self-assembly is observed, which shifts from donor-acceptor-type self-assembly to exciplex-type self-agglomeration. On the contrary, the compound containing a rigid terpyridine unit has only a single ground state and shows no such tunable emission. However, it can exhibit multiple emission bands in water, whereby the positions of their emission maxima depend on the extent of aggregation-induced planarization of the probe molecules. Overall, this work demonstrates multimodal modulation of FON emission and a gives insight into how molecular order can translate into complete switching of nanoparticle self-assembly and photophysics

    An amphiphilic pyrene-terpyridine (Pytpy) probe forms novel, fluorescent nanoaggregates in phospholipid membranes. This unique membrane-driven self-assembly of Pytpy shows large Stokes shifts and long-lived fluorescent states and efficiently reports on vesicle-micelle transition through ratiometric changes. Strikingly, Pytpy can even distinguish between bilayer-like domains and more-dynamic micelle-like `rim' phases that co-exist in mixed assemblies (bicelles)

    Microenvironment Sensitive Charge-Transfer Dye for Tandem Sensing of Multiple Analytes at Mesoscopic Interfaces

    An easy to synthesize amphiphilic dye is developed whose sensing behavior in surfactant assemblies can be modulated through surface-charge, micropolarity, and local pH, etc. Thus, the micelle-bound probe shows remarkable ion dependent bathochromic shifts in the charge-transfer band, enabling simultaneous ratiometric detection of four different metal ions, such as Cu2+, Ni2+, Hg2+, and Zn2+, at parts per billion (ppb) level in water. This is indeed a striking observation since naked-eye sensing of multiple metal ions at the mesoscopic interface is not known to date. Moreover, the probe even shows distinct color response against copper ion in different oxidation states, which is also unheard of. Further, the in situ formed metal complexes can be employed for naked-eye screening of three different amino acids, such as histidine, cysteine, and aspartic acid, in aqueous medium. Probes of this class, which are capable of multiplexing, offer new ways of efficiently screening multiple analytes in complex, real-life samples (e.g., wastewater management, analysis of pharmaceutical drugs, etc.). Further, low-cost reusable dye-coated paper discs were also developed as an ecofriendly method for on-site sensing of metal ions
