Synthesis and magnetic properties of Zr doped ZnO Nanoparticles
Zr doped ZnO nanoparticles are prepared by the sol-gel method with post-annealing. X-ray diffraction results show that all samples are the typical hexagonal wurtzite structure without any other new phase, as well as the Zr atoms have successfully entered into the ZnO lattices instead of forming other lattices. Magnetic measurements indicate that all the doping samples show room temperature ferromagnetism and the pure ZnO is paramagneism. The results of Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicate that there are a lot of oxygen vacancies in the samples by doping element of Zr. It is considered that the observed ferromagnetism is related to the doping induced oxygen vacancies
Relationship between serum phosphate and mortality in critically ill children receiving continuous renal replacement therapy
PurposeWe aimed to explore the relationship between serum phosphate concentration and 90-day mortality in critically ill children receiving continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).MethodsData from the medical records of children aged <13 years who received CRRT at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Hunan Children's Hospital, China from January 2015 to June 2020 were retrospectively collected. Children were grouped into four categories according to the baseline phosphate concentration before CRRT and mean serum phosphate concentration during CRRT: <0.81 mmol/L (hypophosphatemia), 0.81–1.19 mmol/L, 1.2–2.4 mmol/L (normal phosphate concentration), and >2.4 mmol/L (hyperphosphatemia), with the normal phosphate group serving as the comparator group. The correlation of the serum phosphate concentration before and during CRRT with the 90-day mortality after CRRT initiation was analyzed using logistic regression.ResultsA total of 177 children were included in our study. The mean serum phosphate concentration before CRRT was 1.46 mmol/L (quartiles: 1.04, 2.20). The 90-day mortality rate was increased in children with a serum phosphate concentration >2.4 mmol/L before CRRT (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 3.74, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.42–9.86, P = 0.008). The mean serum phosphate concentration during CRRT was 1.2 mmol/L (quartiles: 0.91, 1.49). The 90-day mortality rate was increased in children with a mean serum phosphate concentration >2.4 mmol/L during CRRT (aOR 7.34, 95% CI 1.59–33.88, P = 0.011).ConclusionHyperphosphatemia before and during CRRT predicts a higher 90-day mortality rate
miR-29c-3p represses the angiogenesis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by targeting SERPINH1 to regulate the Wnt signaling pathway
ABSTRACT Purpose: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is characterized by early metastasis and late diagnosis. miR-29c-3p is confirmed to repress angiogenesis in multiple tumor types. Yet, the functions of miR-29c-3p in the mechanism of ESCC angiogenesis, which were not sufficiently explored previously, were exactly what we investigated here at the molecular level. Methods: The mRNA level of miR-29c-3p and Serpin peptidase inhibitor clade H member 1 (SERPINH1) in ESCC tissues were assessed via bioinformatics analysis. Thereafter, miR-29c-3p and SERPINH1 (HSP47) mRNA level in ESCC cell lines was evaluated via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The effects of abnormal miR-29c-3p and SERPINH1 expression on ESCC cell viability, proliferation, migration, invasion, and HUVEC angiogenesis were examined via CCK8, colony formation, transwell, and angiogenesis assays, respectively. The protein levels of SERPINH1, vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGFA), Wnt-1, ?-catenin, and p-?-catenin were evaluated via Western blot. Expression of VEGFA secreted by ESCC cells was measured via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Treatment with the Wnt activator BML-284 further revealed the way miR-29c-3p mediated the Wnt signaling pathway and its effects on angiogenesis. Results: Herein, we revealed a decrease of miR-29c-3p expression in ESCC tissues and cells, while the overexpressed miR-29c-3p could remarkably suppress ESCC cell progression, as well as HUVEC angiogenesis. Meanwhile, overexpressed miR-29c-3p notably downregulated VEGFA and repressed the Wnt signaling pathway. Treatment with the Wnt activator BML-284 could reverse the inhibition of HUVEC angiogenesis caused by miR-29c-3p. SERPINH1 was a downstream target of miR-29c-3p. SERPINH1 knockdown suppressed the malignant phenotypes of ESCC cells and impeded the Wnt signaling activation, while such suppression was reversed through miR-29c-3p inhibitor. Conclusions: We confirmed the mechanism that miR-29c-3p targeted SERPINH1, thus regulating angiogenesis in ESCC through the Wnt signaling pathway. It improves the understanding of angiogenesis in ESCC and offers new ideas for the research of ESCC treatment strategies in the future

Sub-picosecond photo-induced displacive phase transition in two-dimensional MoTe 2
Abstract: Photo-induced phase transitions (PIPTs) provide an ultrafast, energy-efficient way for precisely manipulating the topological properties of transition-metal ditellurides and can be used to stabilize a topological phase in an otherwise semiconducting material. Using first-principles calculations, we demonstrate that the PIPT in monolayer MoTe2 from the semiconducting 2H phase to the topological 1T′ phase can be triggered purely by electronic excitations that soften multiple lattice vibrational modes. These softenings, driven by a Peierls-like mechanism within the conduction bands, lead to structural symmetry breaking within sub-picosecond timescales, which is shorter than the timescale of a thermally driven phase transition. The transition is predicted to be triggered by photons with energies over 1.96 eV, with an associated excited carrier density of 3.4 × 1014 cm−2, which enables a controllable phase transformation by varying the laser wavelength. Our results provide insight into the underlying physics of the phase transition in 2D transition-metal ditellurides and show an ultrafast phase-transition mechanism for manipulation of the topological properties of 2D systems
Vacancy-Mediated Magnetism in Pure Copper Oxide Nanoparticles
Room temperature ferromagnetism (RTF) is observed in pure copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles which were prepared by precipitation method with the post-annealing in air without any ferromagnetic dopant. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) result indicates that the mixture valence states of Cu1+ and Cu2+ ions exist at the surface of the particles. Vacuum annealing enhances the ferromagnetism (FM) of CuO nanoparticles, while oxygen atmosphere annealing reduces it. The origin of FM is suggested to the oxygen vacancies at the surface/or interface of the particles. Such a ferromagnet without the presence of any transition metal could be a very good option for a class of spintronics
Lenvatinib improves anti-PD-1 therapeutic efficacy by promoting vascular normalization via the NRP-1-PDGFRβ complex in hepatocellular carcinoma
IntroductionThe limited response to immune checkpoint blockades (ICBs) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) highlights the urgent need for broadening the scope of current immunotherapy approaches. Lenvatinib has been shown a potential synergistic effect with ICBs. This study investigated the optimal method for combining these two therapeutic agents and the underlying mechanisms.MethodsThe effect of lenvatinib at three different doses on promoting tissue perfusion and vascular normalization was evaluated in both immunodeficient and immunocompetent mouse models. The underlying mechanisms were investigated by analyzing the vascular morphology of endothelial cells and pericytes. The enhanced immune infiltration of optimal-dose lenvatinib and its synergistic effect of lenvatinib and anti-PD-1 antibody was further evaluated by flow cytometry and immunofluorescence imaging.ResultsThere was an optimal dose that superiorly normalized tumor vasculature and increased immune cell infiltration in both immunodeficient and immunocompetent mouse models. An adequate concentration of lenvatinib strengthened the integrity of human umbilical vein endothelial cells by inducing the formation of the NRP-1-PDGFRβ complex and activating the Crkl-C3G-Rap1 signaling pathway in endothelial cells. Additionally, it promoted the interaction between endothelial cells and pericytes by inducing tyrosine-phosphorylation in pericytes. Furthermore, the combination of an optimal dose of lenvatinib and an anti-PD-1 antibody robustly suppressed tumor growth.ConclusionsOur study proposes a mechanism that explains how the optimal dose of lenvatinib induces vascular normalization and confirms its enhanced synergistic effect with ICBs
Synthesis, Magnetic Anisotropy and Optical Properties of Preferred Oriented Zinc Ferrite Nanowire Arrays
Preferred oriented ZnFe2O4 nanowire arrays with an average diameter of 16 nm were fabricated by post-annealing of ZnFe2 nanowires within anodic aluminum oxide templates in atmosphere. Selected area electron diffraction and X-ray diffraction exhibit that the nanowires are in cubic spinel-type structure with a [110] preferred crystallite orientation. Magnetic measurement indicates that the as-prepared ZnFe2O4 nanowire arrays reveal uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, and the easy magnetization direction is parallel to the axis of nanowire. The optical properties show the ZnFe2O4 nanowire arrays give out 370–520 nm blue-violet light, and their UV absorption edge is around 700 nm. The estimated values of direct and indirect band gaps for the nanowires are 2.23 and 1.73 eV, respectively
