Ultrasound on Erect Penis Improves Plaque Identification in Patients With Peyronie’s Disease
ObjectivesTo compare the sensitivity of identification of penile plaques in the erect and flaccid penises by ultrasound in patients with Peyronie’s disease (PD).Materials and MethodsA total of 75 PD patients were screened by palpation and ultrasonography for penile lesions in both flaccid and erect penises induced by prostaglandin E1 (PG-1) injection.ResultsA total of 138 lesions were identified by ultrasound in the erect penises induced by injection of PG-1. However, only 74.6% of the lesions (103) were detectable by the palpation of the flaccid penises, and 84.1% (116) by ultrasound of the flaccid penises. The ultrasound confirmed 99 of the palpated lesions in the flaccid penises. The detection rate of lesions in drug-induced erect penises by ultrasound was significantly higher than those in the flaccid penises by the ultrasound (P < 0.01) or palpation (P < 0.0005) The type of penile lesions identified by ultrasonography included tunical thickening, calcifications, septal fibrosis, and intracavernosal fibrosis. The ratios of these lesions confirmed by ultrasound were 52.6, 33.6, 6.0, and 7.8%, respectively, in the flaccid penises, and 55.8, 28.3, 8.7, and 7.2%, respectively, in the erect penises.ConclusionDrug-induced erection can be used in suspicious PD patients when penile lesion is not identified by palpation or ultrasound in the flaccid penis
Integrating identification and targeted proteomics to discover the potential indicators of postmortem lamb meat quality.
peer reviewedThe aim of this study was to identify the potential indicators of lamb meat quality by TMT and PRM-based proteomics combined with bioinformatic analysis. Lamb muscles were divided into three different meat quality groups (high, middle and low) according to tenderness (shear force, MFI value), colour (a* value, R630/580), and water-holding capacity (cooking loss, drip loss) at 24 h postmortem. The results showed that the abundance of phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK1), β-enolase (ENO3), myosin-binding protein C (MYBPC1) and myosin regulatory light chain 2 (MYLPF) was significantly different in the three groups and could be used as potential indicators to characterize meat quality. Moreover, the postmortem processes of glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, and muscle contraction remarkably changed in different groups, and were the key biological pathways influencing meat quality. Overall, this study depicted the proteomic landscape of meat that furthers our understanding of the molecular mechanism of meat quality and provides a reference for developing non-destructive detection technology for meat quality
Anchoring Cu 1 species over nanodiamond-graphene for semi-hydrogenation of acetylene
The design of cheap, non-toxic, and earth-abundant transition metal catalysts for selective hydrogenation of alkynes remains a challenge in both industry and academia. Here, we report a new atomically dispersed copper (Cu) catalyst supported on a defective nanodiamondgraphene (ND@G), which exhibits excellent catalytic performance for the selective conversion of acetylene to ethylene, i.e., with high conversion (95%), high selectivity (98%), and good stability (for more than 60 h). The unique structural feature of the Cu atoms anchored over graphene through Cu-C bonds ensures the effective activation of acetylene and easy desorption of ethylene, which is the key for the outstanding activity and selectivity of the catalyst

peer reviewedThis work investigated the ability of 8 potential biomarkers (phosphoglycerate kinase-1 (PGK1), pyruvate kinase-M2 (PKM2), phosphoglucomutase-1 (PGM1), β-enolase (ENO3, myosin-binding protein-C (MYBPC1), myosin regulatory light chain-2 (MYLPF), troponin C-1 (TNNC1) and troponin I-1 (TNNI1)) to characterize meat quality by analyzing their relative abundance and enzymatic activity. Two different meat quality groups (Quadriceps femoris (QF) and Longissimus thoracis (LT) muscles) were selected at 24 h postmortem from 100 lamb carcasses. The relative abundance of PKM2, PGK1, PGM1, ENO3, MYBPC1, MYLPF, and TNNI1 was significantly different between LT and QF muscle groups (P < 0.01). Moreover, PKM, PGK, PGM, and ENO activity in LT muscle group was significantly lower than that in QF muscle (P < 0.05). Suggesting that PKM2, PGK1, PGM1, ENO3, MYBPC1, MYLPF, and TNNI1 can be used as robust biomarkers of lamb meat quality, providing the reference for understanding the molecular mechanism of postmortem meat quality formation in future
Tin Assisted Fully Exposed Platinum Clusters Stabilized on Defect-Rich Graphene for Dehydrogenation Reaction
Tin assisted fully exposed Pt clusters are fabricated on the core-shell nanodiamond@graphene (ND@G) hybrid support (a-PtSn/ND@G). The obtained atomically dispersed Pt clusters, with an average Pt atom number of 3, were anchored over the ND@Gsupport by the assistance of Sn atoms as a partition agent and through the Pt-C bond between Pt clusters and defect-rich graphene nanoshell. The atomically dispersed Pt clusters guaranteed a full metal availability to the reactants, a high thermal stability, and an optimized adsorption/desorption behavior. It inhibits the side reactions and enhances catalytic performance in direct dehydrogenation of n-butane at a low temperature of 450 °C, leading to \u3e98% selectivity toward olefin products, and the turnover frequency (TOF) of a-PtSn/ND@G is approximately 3.9 times higher than that of the traditional Pt3Sn alloy catalyst supported on Al2O3 (Pt3Sn/Al2O3)
