    Revealing the effects of ill global eco-financial systems and their capsules

    This paper examines the origins of the global crisis, the impact of the crisis and the different capsules taken to address the crisis. Using daily data from mid-July 2002 to mid-July 2012 for five groups of economies, our estimation is based on BEKK diagonal GARCH. We augmented two dummy variables to represent the U.S. financial crisis and the debt crisis of Greece. We find that the U.S crisis has insignificant impact on the mean returns of all the economies except the African economies. The U.S. financial crisis, however, has positive and significant impact on the stock volatilities of all the groups except the African economies. The debt crisis of Greece, on the other hand, has negative and significant impact on the mean returns of the European and Latin American economies. Its impact on the stock volatilities, however, is positive and significant in all the economies except the African economies. In examining the origins of the crisis, we identify that excessive reliance of the U.S. economy on the credit system and on the stock market together with historic negligence of the production sector and inadequate regulation are some causative factors

    Parity Effects in Eigenvalue Correlators, Parametric and Crossover Correlators in Random Matrix Models: Application to Mesoscopic systems

    This paper summarizes some work I've been doing on eigenvalue correlators of Random Matrix Models which show some interesting behaviour. First we consider matrix models with gaps in there spectrum or density of eigenvalues. The density-density correlators of these models depend on whether N, where N is the size of the matrix, takes even or odd values. The fact that this dependence persists in the large N thermodynamic limit is an unusual property and may have consequences in the study of one electron effects in mesoscopic systems. Secondly, we study the parametric and cross correlators of the Harish Chandra-Itzykson-Zuber matrix model. The analytic expressions determine how the correlators change as a parameter (e.g. the strength of a perturbation in the hamiltonian of the chaotic system or external magnetic field on a sample of material) is varied. The results are relevant for the conductance fluctuations in disordered mesoscopic systems.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, 2 Figure

    Kinetics of mobilization of neutrophils and their marrow pool in protein-calorie deficiency

    Migration of marrow neutrophils under basal conditions and their mobilization, following subcutaneous implantation of cover slips, were investigated in groups of protein-deficient rats, using 3HTdR with sequential autoradiography of the peripheral blood smears. Animals fed a protein-rich diet served as controls. The pattern of appearance of labeled neutrophils in the blood was identical in the two groups under basal conditions. However, a higher percentag of labeled neutrophils appeared earlier in the blood following cover slip implantation in the deficient rats as compared to controls. The inflammatory exudate on the cover slips was low throughout the period of observation in deficient animals, with a delay in the appearance of monocytes. A pool of mature neutrophils resides in the bone marrow. It is proposed that in PCM there is atrophy of all neutrophil compartments, including that of the marrow pool, associated with a proportionate reduction in the efflux of cells from one compartment to another. This proportionate reduction in efflux would explain the normal kinetics of migration of neutrophils under basal conditions in the deficient rats in spite of a reduction in the marrow pool. On the other hand, in cover slip-implanted deficient rats, appearance of larger numbers of labeled neutrophils in the blood is attributed to a reduction in size of the marrow pool. This hypothesis is substantiated by the experiments in protein-deficient monkeys in which estimation of the marrow pool of neutrophils revealed a marked reduction in the deficient animals. It is further proposed that a diminuation of the marrow pool of neutrophils and retarded mobilization of cells at the site of inflammation are important mechanism responsible for the increased susceptibility of the malnourished host to infections

    A Single-step Process to Convert Karanja Oil to Fatty Acid Methyl Esters Using Amberlyst15 as a Catalys

    Karanja oil was successfully converted to fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) in a single-step process using Amberlyst15 as a catalyst. A methanol to oil ratio of 6 was required to retain the physical structure of the Amberlyst15 catalyst. At higher methanol to oil ratios, the Amberlyst15 catalyst disintegrated. Disintegration of Amberlyst15 caused an irreversible loss in catalytic activity. This loss in activity was due to a decrease in surface area of Amberlyst15, which was caused by a decrease in its mesoporous volume. It appeared that the chemical nature of Amberlyst15 was unaffected. Reuse of Amberlyst15 with a methanol to oil ratio of 6:1 also revealed a loss in FAME yield. However, this loss in activity was recovered by heating the used Amberlyst15 catalyst to 393 K. The kinetic parameters of a power law model were successfully determined for a methanol to oil ratio of 6:1. An activation energy of 54.9 kJ mol–1 was obtained.
