Abstract We tackle the problem of dimensional verification via optical acquisition systems in the context of industrial manufacturing processes. Optical methods for quality inspection play a crucial part in the transition process to industry 4.0 and, despite the lack of international standardization, several solutions are available to industries that need to provide dimensional verification to their customers. Unfortunately most of these solutions are still economically unavailable to the majority of small or medium companies. In this paper we present an optical system based on low-cost components and we demonstrate that it provides useful and reliable information in quality inspection procedures

Mapping Heat Stress Vulnerability and Risk Assessment at the Neighborhood Scale to Drive Urban Adaptation Planning

Climate change is one of the most complex issues of the 21st century, and even though there is general consensus about the urgency of taking action at the city level, the planning and implementation of adaptation measures is advancing slowly. The lack of data and information to support the planning process is often mentioned as a factor hampering the adaptation processes in cities. In this paper, we developed and tested a methodology for heat stress vulnerability and risk assessment at the neighborhood scale to support designers, planners, and decision makers in developing and implementing adaptation strategies and measures at the local level. The methodology combines high-resolution spatial information and crowdsourcing geospatial data to develop sensitivity, adaptive capacity, vulnerability, exposure, and risk indicators. The methodology is then tested on the urban fabric of the city of Padova, Italy. Our results show that dierent vulnerability and risk values correspond to dierent typologies of urban areas. Furthermore, the possibility of combining high-resolution information provided by the indicators and land use categories is of great importance to support the adaptation planning process. We also argue that the methodology is flexible enough to be applied in dierent contexts

Towards the Metropolitan City : adaptation strategies to climate change using new technologies

In addressing the challenges posed by climate change becomes essential to promote, also the local level, a kind of planning able to consider mitigation and adaptation measures in an integrated way. How to design and plan considering, not only, the mitigation\u2019s logic but also the adaptation? And how to do this in an efficient and integrated way? In particular, urban climate adaptation policy choices are more likely to be influenced by locally relevant environmental factors and conditions, and the perception of stakeholders and decision makers. To obtain such goals, the smart city\u2019s paradigm shows itself as the best possible solution. The smart city, through the opportunities provided by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), promotes the participation of citizens in defining and implementing an integrated and sustainable urban policies, in order to improve the inhabitants\u2019 quality of life. The problem of climate change is a social problem, and only by involving the population, and with their collaboration, it is possible to implement strategies for adaptation and mitigation. The new approach suggested for Public Administration (P.A.) moves away from the concept of possession, but instead it is near to the concept of sharing of resources and knowledge, cooperation; and introduce models of Governance based on participation and involvement of citizens. Therefore, to increase the urban resilience it is important, first of all, to build a framework of knowledge: innovative (for the detail of information), shared, and integrated. The Province of Venice, with the University Iuav of Venice and its PhD school, during the last years, has, before, coordinated and supported the Covenant of Mayors for drafting the SEAP, and then the Project Partner European Seap-Alps. This collaboration has produced: \u2022 an innovative method for analysing with the use of the techniques of Remote Sensing, oriented spatial information in order to produce valid identification and environmental vulnerability of the area to climate change; \u2022 an enlarged working group with some P.A. local pilot, in order to develop a shared guidelines, useful for planning future Climate Metropolitan City. \u2022 definition of strategies for use the ICT in order to share information and create a regional network for a Climate Plan on a metropolitan scale

Os problemas ambientais e sociais existentes no nível local desempenham papel importante na forma em que os efeitos das mudanças climáticas se manifestam. Embora os acordos internacionais e as estratégias nacionais sejam indispensáveis no enfrentamento dessas alterações, as especificidades de cada território requerem respostas de adaptação específicas. A adaptação climática é, assim, desafio particularmente urgente para os tomadores de decisão nos níveis municipal e regional, considerando, sobretudo, importantes lacunas no desenvolvimento de respostas locais, como ausência de dados e falta de vontade política ou recursos. Particularmente relevante é a capacidade de produzir informações que sejam facilmente convertidas em políticas de adaptação. Este artigo investiga a extensão em que três projetos de pesquisa contribuíram na produção de informações para promover adaptação. Os estudos de caso são analisados com o objetivo de identificar como, e em que medida, as interações entre diferentes conhecimentos contribuíram com o processo de adaptação local
