    ROLE DES DIURETIQUES D'EPARGNE POTASSIQUE

    No full text
A programme of isolation of peptide fractions from pituitrin and from crude neurophysin complex from porcine and bovine posterior lobes, with double blind estimation of natriuretic and other pharmacological activities as the criterion of isolation, has resulted in the purification of a linear tridecapeptide from a peak of natriuretic activity from the bovine source. This molecule is most probably the 1-13 N terminal fragment of ACTH. Synthetic approximations are not very natriuretic per se when tested in the same standardized cat assay, but potentiate the natriuretic activity of very small dosages of vasopressin.SCOPUS: NotDefined.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

The activity of the transport ATPase, responsible for the active transport of the monovalent cations through cell membranes, is decreased in the conductive tissue as compared with the working myocardium. This finding could possibly explain the longer refractory period and the faster spontaneous diastolic depolarization of the conductive tissue. The transport ATPase of the conductive tissue is less sensitive against digitalis glycosides. This might explain the fact that although total transport ATPase is decreased in the conductive tissue, no a v block usually occurs during digitalis therapy.SCOPUS: NotDefined.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

    Detection of hypertension

The classical World Health Organization (WHO) definition of hypertension has recently been questioned. The criteria of the distribution curve, as well as the risk-related definition of hypertension, are being replaced by a more pragmatic definition based on the benefits of intervention, as demonstrated in recent large scale therapeutic trials. Variability of blood pressure and the 'doctors's effect' also reduce the value of casual blood pressure measurement in the detection of hypertension, which might in the future be based on ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Although systematic screening for hypertension is not particularly useful is developed countries, periodic surveys of the population will be needed to assess the situation of the detection and control of hypertension. Early detection by the search for markers of hypertensive heredity remains a field where progress is slow.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
