MORPHOLOGIE SUB MICROSCOPIQUE DES SPHEROPLASTES D'HEMOPHILUS INFLUENZAE. CORRELATION MICROSCOPIE ELECTRONIQUE ET OPTIQUE

    No full text
By electron microscopy, the intracellular structure previously observed on H. influenzae spheroplasts by phase contrast and acridine stain, is confirmed. The spheroplasts correspond to reversible L forms. Very few elements reverse to bacillary form. The observation of a large number of bacteria is possible with acridine stain and the detection of reversible elements also. In these conditions acridine stain completes electron microscopy. The importance of Hemophilus spheroplasts in chronic bronchitis should be determined.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Iodination of cell membranes results in cytologic fixation

    No full text
Cells grown as adhering monolayers have been iodinated using the lactoperoxidase technique with glucose and glucose oxidase instead of H 2O 2. A high degree of cytologic fixaton, as evidenced by electron microscopy, resulted from this treatment even in the absence of lactoperoxidase.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Le macrophage alvéolaire et sa fonction anti-infectieuse

    No full text
The alveolar macrophage belongs to the 'Mononuclear Phagocytic System'. The medullary promonocyte is its stem-cell. It has a kidney-shaped nucleus, a developed vesicular Golgi apparatus, numerous mitochondriae, lysosomes, phagosomes, and a rough or smooth ergastoplasm. It can survive several weeks in vitro, when cultivated on a porous membrane in contact with a nutrient medium and incubated in a gaseous phase (5% carbon dioxide in water saturated air). Mitotic activity is questionable. Oxygen consumption is high during endocytosis. Metabolic energy is derived from direct oxidative glucose breakdown. Its anti-infectious property is based on phagocytosis, as well as on cytoplasmic germicidal or lytic systems (hydrogen peroxide, catalase, free oxygen radicals, hydrogen ion, lysozyme and other lysosomial hydrolases). This function is stimulated by T lymphocyte and by endocytosis of digestible material. In vitro, the alveolar macrophage is capable of inhibiting intra-cellular development of Candida albicans, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus albus and Staphylococcus aureus.SCOPUS: NotDefined.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Congenital varicella zoster infection related to maternal disease in early pregnancy

    No full text
Varicella in a newborn with scarring cutaneous lesions and symptoms of neurological damage occurred following maternal varicella at the 14th-19th wk of pregnancy. A high titer of complement fixing antibodies to varicella virus was found at birth, decreasing to a low level at 6 mth of age and then increasing. Neutralizing antibodies to herpes simplex viruses types I and II were not present. Electron microscopy demonstrated viral particles of the herpes group in the fluid of a zoster vesicle in the 10th wk of life. Neuromotor disturbances affecting deglutition resulted in recurring aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition, marasmus and death.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
