Pressure-driven magnetic moment collapse in the ground state of MnO
The zero temperature Mott transition region in antiferromagnetic, spin S=5/2
MnO is probed using the correlated band theory LSDA+U method. The first
transition encountered is an insulator-insulator volume collapse within the
rocksalt structure that is characterized by an unexpected Hund's rule violating
`spin-flip' moment collapse. This spin-flip to S=1/2 takes fullest advantage of
the anisotropy of the Coulomb repulsion, allowing gain in the kinetic energy
(which increases with decreasing volume) while retaining a sizable amount of
the magnetic exchange energy. While transition pressures vary with the
interaction strength, the spin-flip state is robust over a range of interaction
strengths and for both B1 and B8 structures
Yoga Therapy for Healthy Aging
Background: Yoga means union of body and mind. Yoga is a therapy for promoting total health and harmonizing body and soul. Mental stress plays a very important role on the autonomic nervous system (ANS). An imbalance in ANS will virtually lead to many diseases. Yoga which teaches holistic life style with good food habits regulates ANS and acts as preventive medicine for most of the diseases helping healthy aging. Aim: To study the physical and psychological conditions of elderly people who practice yoga and who don’t practice yoga.Methodology: Data was collected from 73 people, male-40; female-33 (39 who practice yoga (from two yoga centers in Rajajinagar, Bangalore and 34 not practicing yoga from Rajajinagar, Bangalore). The survey questioners were readout and their answers were noted. Random blood sugar was recorded using ONETOUCH select simple from Johnson & Johnson, and blood pressure (BP) was recorded using standard mercury sphygmomanometer during the survey. The survey questioner covered age, years of yoga practice, whether diagnosed with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) or diabetes (two most common diseases among aging Indians), number of visits to the physician per year, BP, blood sugar as per their previous records, type of yoga posture normally performed and duration of practice.Result: The average age of people surveyed is 52.7 years. 87.2% of people who are practicing yoga for more than 10 years are found to have normal BP, blood sugar, don’t suffer from CVDs or diabetes, and visit to a physician is less than 1.72 times/year. It is found that 9% of people started practicing yoga after being diagnosed with CVDs or diabetes but claim that their BP and blood sugar are under control due to yoga practice. It was also found that 3.8% of people are suffering from hypertension and diabetes in spite of practicing yoga. The yoga posture practiced by people are simple breathing techniques (pranayama), warm ups (jathis and suryanamaskar), breath body movement coordination practices (kriyas), static stretching postures (asana), relaxation and chanting.28.35% of people who don’t practice yoga were diabetic, 17.5% had CVDs, 21% suffer from hypertension and 65.3% accept mental stress. The average visit to doctor/year is 7.6.Conclusion: Study shows people practicing yoga stay healthy and stress free and lead their life to happy and healthy aging
The Life of Husband and Wife in Sangam Literature
If we want to know about a generation, it is enough to study their language and the antiquity of that language and if we want to study and know the antiquity of Tamil language, the best place for that is Sangam literature. The virtues of the Tamil language are love and valor which can be divided into internal and external life. Thus, we should know how lifestyle of husband and wife. In the Sanga, literature, the wife has great love for her husband. A wife is one who spends according to her husband’s income and does not give up her husband in the society. The homeliness of a wife who graciously welcomes visitors is admirable in Sangam literature. Wife suffers a lot when husband goes abroad for his wealth. She regrets for their separation and her body becomes thin. She graciously entertains all the relatives and non-relatives who come to her house at all times. The husband also suffers a lot because of their separation. But soon the husband changes his thoughts in activities like making money and so on. But the Wife maintains hospitality, filial piety, social virtues etc. in love life and as well as in domestic life. One of the reasons for this situation is the Sangam era, the reason for this is that a woman maintains a home, fertility and hospitality. A leader maintains hospitality only for a while. The husband goes to the prostitute's slum and returns, even after knowing all this wife accepts him out of love. In Sangha literature, the wife always mainatains a good moral behaviour. Thus, it is special that the wife gets a special distinction in Sangam literature
Theories of Inappropriate Love as Pointed Out in Sangam literature
The Ettutthokai (The Eight Anthologies) and the Pathuppaattu (The Ten Idylls) are considered to be the oldest literary works of the Tamil people. The literature that appeared thousands of years ago beautifully captures the feelings of human beings, their lifestyles, and their habits. If a generation exists, then it can be attributed to the existence of society by adhering to the principle laid down by the previous generation. Any relationship formed through love will last and live on. Similarly, in the Sangam literature, the basis of the true feelings of love is inappropriate love first, only after which the chastity life begins. So, inappropriate love, which forms the basis of love, is something that all creatures have in common. The purpose of this article is to explore the theft of the love route
Micromorphological variations of trichomes in the genus Ocimum L.
Ocimum L. is an attractive fragrant ornamental plant with medicinal aromatic compounds. The study using digital microscopy revealed the distinct epidermal trichome morphology in five species of Ocimum including O. americanum L., O. basilicum L., O. gratissimum L., O. kilimandscharicum Gurke and O. tenuiflorum L. A distinguished variation in size, shape, type and abundance of trichomes on leaves and stem of all species are described and photographed. Both glandular and non-glandular trichomes scrutinized in all the species in which glandular type comprised capitate and peltate trichomes. On the stem, the longest glandular capitate trichome (GCT) and non-glandular trichome (NGT) were observed in O. tenuiflorum while O. basilicum possessed longest glandular peltate trichome (GPT). In case of foliar trichomes, the longest GCT observed on leaves of O. americanum; and O. basilicum showed the longest GPT and NGT. In the species, the septate or aseptate NGT possessed uni, bi or multicellular base with acute or broad apex. A distinguished variation in the number of cells in stalk and head of GT was observed in the study. Presence of silica bodies in peltate trichome of O. kilimandscharicum was noticed as the characteristic feature. Among the five species, the trichomes were abundant in O. kilimandscharicum; while O. basilicum showed sparse distribution. Trichomes with disrupted cells were also noted in O. americanum. Due to the presence of specific trichome characteristics, the efficient taxonomic key is prepared to identify the taxa at species level

Intraspecific competition reduces niche width in experimental populations
Intraspecific competition is believed to drive niche expansion, because otherwise suboptimal resources can provide a refuge from competition for preferred resources. Competitive niche expansion is well supported by empirical observations, experiments, and theory, and is often invoked to explain phenotypic diversification within populations, some forms of speciation, and adaptive radiation. However, some foraging models predict the opposite outcome, and it therefore remains unclear whether competition will promote or inhibit niche expansion. We conducted experiments to test whether competition changes the fitness landscape to favor niche expansion, and if competition indeed drives niche expansion as expected. Using Tribolium castaneum flour beetles fed either wheat (their ancestral resource), corn (a novel resource) or mixtures of both resources, we show that fitness is maximized on a mixed diet. Next, we show that at higher population density, the optimal diet shifts toward greater use of corn, favoring niche expansion. In stark contrast, when beetles were given a choice of resources, we found that competition caused niche contraction onto the ancestral resource. This presents a puzzling mismatch between how competition alters the fitness landscape, versus competition's effects on resource use. We discuss several explanations for this mismatch, highlighting potential reasons why optimality models might be misleading
Highlighting the Future of Autonomous Vehicle Technology in 2020-2050
© 2018 IEEE. As the world enters the age of the 4th industrial revolution, the future of work has re-emerged as a fundamental question, among policy-makers, business leaders, workers and the broader public around the globe. This is applied by accelerating innovations and adoption of ever more sophisticated automation technologies. Most of the existing research and reports have focused on the impact of automation in advanced industrial countries. In this paper, we explore the role of software engineering in autonomous transportation in 2050, its challenges and research trends. The exploration will be done through analysis of different reports and UAE government summit prediction. We intended to see the vision of the future of software engineering that prepares engineers for future emerging technology. This could contribute to the solution and design of international standards as well as increase the market confidence. In addition, this can also contribute towards a proper start-up of self-driving technology. We believe that a successful adoption of Autonomous Vehicles (AV) in developing a future automobile system will best be attained through an effective risk management strategy. As a result, the potential threat to the AV will further be investigated by industry and government entities to deal with the huge threats of cybersecurity that might face the autonomous vehicles
Superconductivity and Lattice Instability in Compressed Lithium from Fermi Surface Hot Spots
The highest superconducting temperature T observed in any elemental metal
(Li with T ~ 20 K at pressure P ~ 40 GPa) is shown to arise from critical
(formally divergent) electron-phonon coupling to the transverse T phonon
branch along intersections of Kohn anomaly surfaces with the Fermi surface.
First principles linear response calculations of the phonon spectrum and
spectral function reveal (harmonic) instability already at
25 GPa. Our results imply that the fcc phase is anharmonically stabilized in
the 25-38 GPa range.Comment: 4 pages, 3 embedded figure
