Given the latest research on Dimensions classification, this article discusses the novelty of such classification in the field of textile technology from the standpoint of Croatian scientific career advancement system. New machine learning article based classification system is compared to a traditional journal based classification system brought by the Web of Science and Scopus in terms of evaluation significance. The starting point of assigned category comparison were 13 journals indexed in the Web of Science in just one common category - Materials science, Textiles. Since Scopus does not have a unique category for the textile technology a list of 11 assigned categories was put in the comparison. Lastly, 58 research fields assigned to the articles published in mentioned journals indexed in Dimensions were analyzed for validity. Results show that the unique category of Textiles in Web of Science fully fits the field of textile technology from Croatian point of view. Scopus model with multi category assignment is not so reliable and useful in field evaluation. Lastly, Dimensions with its novel approach failed to validly classify indexed publications

Skeletal orthodontic anomalies, as wel as those having strongly manifested skeletal components, represent a remarkable problem from the aspect of treatment. Roendgencephalometric methods of craniofacial growth prediction, by using longitudinal studies, are not reliable because the growth pattern is strictly individual. Most important, but impossible, is to predict the intensity and variations of pubertal growth spurt. Therefore, in some cases, the course of conventional orthodontic treatment must be changed, and a surgical procedure has to be considered. A female patient of the Department of Orthodontics School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb, started her treatment at the age of 9, during the mixed dentition, when the diagnosis mandibular prognathism was foreseen. During a few years of treatment bionator and removable plates were applied. Nevertheless, in spite of excellent collaboration, during puberty, because of remarkable acceleration of condylar growth, true mandibular prognathism was diagnosed. Surgical procedure was indicated. Therefore orthodontic treatment was focused on removal of dentoalveolar compenstory elements as well as previous treatment effects. By using a fixed appliance (Roth 0.018 system) normal inclination of the incisors was achieved in both dental arches as well as congruence of transversal dimensions of both jaws, while the sagittal intermaxillary relationship was diagnosed as mandibular prognatism. After a detailed diagnostic procedure and computerised postoperation result vision, surgery intervention was done on the mandible by osteotomy with two vertical and one horizontal cut. Bone surplus segment was removed. The fixation of skeletal segments was done by screws on both sides, whille the intermaxillary relation was obtained by the fixed appliance. Intermaxillary relation was provided by an interdental guide, made just before surgical treatment. During the retention period the previous fixed appliance was used, and after six months it was replaced by two removable retainers. The orthodontic-surgical treatment results confirmed the functional and esthetic demands foreseen by treatmen planning

The aim of the investigation was to compare the three most commonly used methods of reconstruction of the oral cavity in the University Hospital ā€œDubravaā€, after resection of intraoral carcinoma. In a group of 50 patients, with no statistically significant differences with regard to the stage of disease, local flaps (19 patients), regional pectoralis major flap (11 patients) and free forearm flap (20 patients) were compared. A clinical questionnaire was prepared for evaluation of the success of reconstruction, consisting of two parts. The first part of the questionnaire contained general information on the patient and data on the tumour. The second part of the questionnaire consisted of questions on postoperative functional and aesthetic results. Apart from comparison of the three methods of reconstruction, we also investigated on a sample of 55 patients which parameters were most important for the success of the reconstruction and whether and in what way reconstruction has an effect on postoperative quality of life on a sample of 55 patients. Analysis of the obtained data indicated that none of the three methods of reconstruction were superior in all parameters compared to the other two methods. Free forearm flap did not statistically significantly show the expected theoretic advantage over the regional pectoralis major flap, although it scored higher in almost all parameters. The stage of the disease and extent of resection are the most significant parameters for postoperative result of reconstruction, regardless of the type of flap

Autori predstavljaju i suvremene spoznaje o liječenju odontogenih cista, upozoravaju na lokalnu invazivnost odontogene keratociste i najavljuju rezultate uporabe resorbilnoga granulata trikalcijeva fosfata. The results are shown of surgical-orthodontic treatment of developmental odontogenic cysts of the jaws with the purpose of demonstrating the importance of long-term teamwork of the orthodontist and oral surgeon in resolving each individual case, despite the fact that some cases may appear to be simple. Such cooperation enables the preservation of impacted teeth, even in cases when this appears almost impossible. The example presented of treatment of a large follicular cyst in an eight-year old girl is proof of the success of such cooperation. The authors also present contemporary knowledge on the treatment of odontogenic cysts, warn of the local invasive nature of odontogenic keratocysts and show the results of the application of resorptive granular tricalcium phosphate

Međučeljusni nesklad stvara velike probleme pacijentima i estetski i funkcionalno. Dentofacijalni deformiteti danas se vrlo uspjeÅ”no rjeÅ”avaju. Disharmony of the jaws presents a great aesthetic and functional problem for patients. The reason for reporting to a clinic is mainly of an aesthetic nature, since most commonly young people are involved, while functional disturbances remain secondary. Such persons have difficulty eating, speaking and breathing. We will present one case of combined dentofacial deformity: PROGNATHISMUS ET LATEROGNATHISMUS MANDIBULARIS. Female patient, 34 years old. From anamnestic data we did not find out whether there were similar problems in the family. The motive for reporting to the clinic was aesthetics, although the patient complained of pain in both temporomandibular joints, difficulty eating and somewhat more difficult pronunciation of certain vocals. A treatment plan was based on: ā€¢ Analysis of the face, based on profile and en face photographs. ā€¢ Analysis of occlusion, based on study models. ā€¢ Roentgen-cephalometry of the profile and AP craniogram, performed on a computer as well as manually, confirmed the above mentioned diagnosis. The treatment was performed exclusively with intraoral and extraoral orthodontic appliances, and we therefore believe that it would be useful to present our experience with such a treatment method. The appearance of the patient after treatment can be seen on the photographs. Repeated cephalometric analyses were performed after completion of the treatment. All parameters were within normal limits, as can be seen from the table presenting pre- and post treatment values. Analysis of the soft tissues also shows significant changes, and relations between the nose, upper lip, lower lip and chin are very good. Today dentofacial deformities are successfully solved. Good study analyses, which serve as the base for planning treatment, guarantee successful treatment. There are very few secrets in ortognatic treatment, but it still requires high professionalism and effectivness

Stomatolozi, ortodonti, oralni kirurzi i protetičari u svojemu svakodnevnom radu rjeÅ”avaju probleme bezubosti. Ortodontsko liječenje uspjeÅ”no rjeÅ”ava mnoge malokluzije. KirurÅ”ko liječenje može rijeÅ”iti mnoge dentofacijalne deformitete. Protetska rehabilitacija u većini slučajeva funkcionalno i estetski zadovoljava pacijentove potrebe. In their everyday work dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons and prosthodontists solve the problem of edentulousness/edentia. The premature loss of teeth inevitably leads to changes which are clearly seen on the face, particularly the shape and size of the upper and lower jaws. Intermaxillary disharmony, arising as a result of the loss of teeth, causes great problems to the patient, both aesthetic and functional, and also to the physician who attempts to rehabilitate the patient. Orthodontic treatment successfully solves numerous malocclusions. Surgical treatment can solve a large number of dentofacial deformities. Prosthetic rehabilitation in the majority of cases functionally and aesthetically satisfies the needs of the patient. However, a combination of orthodontic and surgical treatment, and prosthetic rehabilitation not only ensures stable intermaxillary relations but also the appropriate appearance of the patient. Orthodontic treatment must precede surgical treatment, in order to solve dental compensation and to ensure sufficient space for placement of dental implants and finally it must ensure, through a period of retention, stability of the result. We will show several examples of successful interdisciplinary approach to solving edentulousness

Autologous bone grafts are believed to be the method of choice in the reconstruction of limited mandibular defects and in the reconstruction of the bone defects of the middle and upper part of the face. Autologous bone is an excellent osteoconductive material and is very rarely rejected by the body. The most frequent donor region is crista illiaca. Cortical bone and cancellous bone can be used as a free bone flap. In this study we present the application of autologous cancellous hip bone in the following cases: ā€¢ Osteoplasty of the alveolar ridge in children with shisis. ā€¢ Correction of the forehead contour after maxillectomy. ā€¢ Reconstruction of mandibular defects. The patients were followed during one year after osteoplasty. The success of the implementation of bone grafts was verified with clinical findings, X-rays, in cases of mandibular reconstruction, with pathohistological verification after the removal of the OS material. Apart from a small scar, there was no other damage to the donor region. Osteoplasty with autologous cancellous hip bone graft represents a golden standard in properly chosen indications
