Aggressiveness of Leveillula taurica on pepper
International audienceThe aggressiveness of several isolates of L. taurica from different locations in France, Sudan and Italy, on pepper (Capsicum annuum) was investigated. A susceptible line (Vania) and a partially resistant line (PM687) were used in the study. Evaluations of disease severity were carried out 5 times a week, from 7 days after inoculation until 49 days after inoculation. All isolates of L. taurica were virulent to the susceptible line, wiith mild symptoms observed after 14 days. Only weak symptoms were observed on the partially resistant line for 4 of the 6 isolates, and no symptoms were observed for the other 2 isolates. The most aggressive and least aggressive isolates were both obtained from Sudan. It is suggested that levels of aggressiveness can be determined on the pepper line Vania, and that aggressiveness may not be related to the geographic origin of the isolate
