A gradient flow approach to linear Boltzmann equations
We introduce a gradient flow formulation of linear Boltzmann equations. Under
a diffusive scaling we derive a diffusion equation by using the machinery of
gradient flows
CYBERWISER.eu: Innovative Cyber Range Platform for Cybersecurity Training in Industrial Systems
Information technologies are nowadays part of industrial systems. Employees in charge of managing these systems typically have little or very little knowledge of cybersecurity. In this work we initially explore the challenges related to cybersecurity training in industrial systems and then we propose an approach based on CYBERWISER.eu cyber range platform. A cyber range provides a multipurpose virtual environment in which organisations can test critical capabilities and reveal how effectively they integrate people, processes, and technology to protect their strategic information, services, and assets. By facilitating high-fidelity simulations, a cyber range can associate the cybersecurity training phase with a personalized security testing, together with a unit testing, on different kind of systems, including SCADA
La voce della DEA: Esiti di un questionario su antropologia e comunicazione in Italia
This research report presents the findings of a quantitative investigation about anthropology and mass media, based on questionnaires mailed to all Italian anthropology professors (Scientific-Disciplinary Sector M-DEA/01). The goal of this survey was to discover how much Italian anthropologists are present in local, national and international newspapers, radios and televisions. The result of this study indicates a low level of presence in mass media for the Italian anthropologist, indeed three out of four communicate little through mass media and only few of them have a constant presence. Basically, this research indicates a higher local type of communication than a national and international sort of communication. Such individual (such as the academic role) and contextual (such as the geographical location of the university) characteristics are associated with the presence in a particular media. Finally, there is a statical positive correlation between Public Engagement activities and communication. Despite the little communication (even if on average not inferior to that of other colleagues from other disciplines), Italian anthropologists are mostly in favor of the popularization of the discipline through mass media and the web.

Large deviations for Kac-like walks
We introduce a Kac's type walk whose rate of binary collisions preserves the
total momentum but not the kinetic energy. In the limit of large number of
particles we describe the dynamics in terms of empirical measure and flow,
proving the corresponding large deviation principle. The associated rate
function has an explicit expression. As a byproduct of this analysis, we
provide a gradient flow formulation of the Boltzmann-Kac equation
Investigation of Mechanical Properties of Aluminum Tailor Welded Blanks
Nowadays, the reduction of CO2 emissions and the
decrease in energy consumption are the main aims of several
industries, especially in the automotive sector. To comply with the
increasingly restrictive regulations, the automotive industry is
constantly looking for innovative techniques to produce lighter, more
efficient, and less polluting vehicles. One of the latest technologies,
and still developing, is based on the fabrication of the body-in-white
and car parts through the stamping of aluminum Tailor Welded Blanks.
Tailor Welded Blanks (TWBs) are generally the combination of
two/three metal sheets with different thicknesses and/or mechanical
strengths, which are commonly butt-welded together by laser sources.
The use of aluminum TWBs has several advantages such as low
density and corrosion resistance adequate. However, their use is still
limited by the lower formability with respect to the parent materials
and the more intrinsic difficulty of laser welding of aluminum sheets
(i.e., internal porosity) that, although its use in automated industries is
constantly growing, remains a process to be further developed and
improved. This study has investigated the effect of the main laser
welding process parameters (laser power, welding speed, and focal
distance) on the mechanical properties of aluminum TWBs made of
6xxx series. The research results show that a narrow weldability
window can be found to ensure welded joints with high strength and
limited or no porosity
